Mojave River Valley Museum packs a whole lot of history into a one-room museum. You can learn about prehistory all the way through the age of space exploration. And the lovely docent Leslie who shared a ton of information with me and answered all questions was super helpful. There are quite a few books with local history for your perusal, souvenirs and water bottles for purchase. Free admission and parking. A must-see if you're in the area but check the hours first here: https://mojaverivervalleymuseum.org/

Lowkey. Mojave river museum is small, local joint. Main showcases are local flair. Highlights are the high school accomplishments, couple locals, african american role in the city and bunch of nature things like rocks and wildlife. Native american roots are also highlighted. This museum has a variety of things explaining how or what barstow was except for a pitstop for the trains or travelers heading to or away from los angeles. The museum feels a bit cluttered and is good for kids. Location: A Right off the I-15 Freeway. Mojave museum is on the Southwest corner of Barstow & E Virginia. Roads/Parking: A Plenty parking on rough road. Cost: A Free. Overall: A Nothing to travel thousands of miles for. Ideal if your commuting to/from vegas or to/from grand canyons to so cal. Notable nearbys: Down the street located at the Harvey House are Rte 66 Museum, Train museum and planet exhibition. Back way to Big Bear, Morongo/Palm Springs and Fort Irwin. Nearby on the same street is the Discovery/Geology Museum and Historic DT Barstow where Roy's cafe and bunch of Rte 66 signs are. Barstow also has a huge outlets that is famous for Asian tourists. Safe traveling. Shameless IG plugs to check out: Cigar IG @cigarcpa. Food IG @cleeshyun. Travel IG @travelingtaxman

I'm not a fan of the current penchant for describing things as "random", but if the shoe fits, well, sometimes you gotta wear it.
