So lovely to have a Drive in that is easily accessible and doesn't require me to drive like 90 minutes to a rural area! This one is right in Torrance and shows movies on Friday nights during the summer. Same location as the flea market and near lots of local businesses. Pro tip: grab some takeout nearby and bring it with you in your car at the drive in! Being that retro things are cool now I was expected a massive crowd but it was so nice to only have 10 cars there as I got a prime spot in front of the screen. They normally have a snack bar open but the night I went they didn't, and so they offered us complimentary water and coffee to make up for not having the bad open. The only thing I would improve was the audio transmission through the FM station wasn't that great as it had a low buzz to it that you could hear during quieter scenes. Still I can't complain too much. $25 per car not per person. Great deal! You can buy tickets in advance online but still it doesn't get busy (usually) you can just do it at the front entrance. They take credit cards but charge a bit to use it.

Visited on Monday, 06/20/22 for the first time. HUGGGEE Flea Market (aka Swapmeet). At night this lot transfers into an outdoor movie theater (never experienced before). Somewhat ample parking but very narrow and can be challenging at times. Monday was moderately crowded. Parking was not free when we arrived. ($1.50 total - $1.00 per vehicle AND driver + $0.50 per additional passenger). This swapmeet has it all - Costco goodies, clothes, electronics, you name it. There is also a Cafe (Roadium Cafe). Overall 4/5 - I recommend bringing a hat and sunscreen as it was extremely hot when I was there.

What a great experience and so nostalgia we had here, to go back in time if just for a few hours to relive the good old days going to the drive in. The Roadium has always been around when this drive in closed in the mid 80 it was used and is currently as an open air swap market, this place is always crowed, driving on Redondo beach Blvd in between Crenshaw Blvd and Van Ness Ave you can't miss the bright yellow sign. It was $25.00 per car or truck, you could also purchase your tickets on line as well, there was a line to get in because the gates did not open till 7 pm and the movie stared around 8:15 pm staff was generally nice to everyone i saw. There was a snack bar plus restrooms in the rear, there is an armed security officer patrolling the driver in in a golf car, Oh after 9 pm they lock the gates. Ferris Bueller's Day Off was the 1986 classic movie playing that night, there so many classic old school cars, vintage and convertible vehicles, also people were dress to the drive in day. Movies will be playing every Friday night in Aug. 05, Despicable Me, Aug./12, Field of dreams, Aug./19, Gone in 60 seconds, Aug./ 26, American graffiti. Yes happy days was here again if only for three months.

I will say, if you are attending a popular screening that will be sold out or close to sold out, and you want to buy concessions, it may be best to get there 45-1 hour before. They only have one register and are a small team, I waited in line for a little more than 30 mins and I arrived 30 mins before the screening. The staff are friendly and great! Seats are comfortable for being standard non-recliners. Im looking forward to coming back!

This theater was on my radar since then and on Thursday a friend posted on her story that they were screening Dinner in America with a Q&A with the writer/director and producer and later, Emily Skeggs!! I got a ticket so fast and pushed my concert plans to the side for this. I saw Dinner in America for the first time, last year after the Kanopy app randomly recommended it to me. I watched it and loved this film so much, but when I found out it came out in 2020, I was bummed I'd never get to see it on the big screen. Thanks to Gardena Cinema I was able to see it with a sea of people and not just alone on my phone 29 times. While we were waiting for the film to start, the owner came up to the mic and talked about the history of the theater and how her family came to own it after immigrating to the U.S. in the 70's. Yesterday was the national shutdown strike, but honestly it's hard on small businesses everywhere and I saw so many of these businesses say they were staying open and supporting in one way or another. Judy did the same and gave an impromptu moving talk about what's going on in the world and why it was important to still go on with the screening of this film; because it's punk as fuck! I love this film down BAD because it is exactly that and more. This film is my Heated Rivalry for real. Getting here was easy from the O.C. and parking was a dream!! There's a big parking lot connected to the theater and it's free. I love the multi colored letters of the marquee out front as it really stands out against the background of the city. Inside it's a small lobby then straight into the 1 theater. I was shocked at how far back the seating goes. Other small art house theaters it's not that big inside but here there's so much seating. The seats are small though, like from the 1940's small, but I was able to sit comfortably the whole film. I stayed for the Q&A and was able to ask one question about the soundtrack and release of the Psyops songs and found out it was in the works. Emily Skeggs said hi to me as I was about to ask my question and I was done. After that, I like teared up for some weird reason. It was such a great evening and hearing Judy's story and that this theater is run completely by volunteers was so heartwarming. These theaters are so special to me because they show the cult films and are able to bring out the cast and crew for Q&A which is something you don't get at chain theaters. I genuinely will make an effort to support art house cinemas this year and in particular Gardena Cinema because it is punk AF!

I haven't been here in years. So I decided to go with gf in tow, on a Saturday night, for 8:10pm…read moreshowing I did remember to come early to get a good spot to park. 39 minutes early is the latest to come. Otherwise you will be waiting in a huge line and may be fighting for a good spot, so you can be far away from the we*d smokers or smokers of any kind, if you are a nonsmoker like we are . Prices are still cheap. Only $14 for general admission (12 and older). Way better than walk in theater general admission prices. Pretty sure ticket prices are cash. So make sure you have cash for tickets. We came to see Mortal Kombat II. Which was amazing. I never saw the first movie. But you don't have to have seen the first to follow this movie. One reason I wanted to see this movie is Mortal Kombat II is my favorite video game (SNES) version of the MK video games. The best place to see an action movie is on the massive drive-in theater movie screen. Not Imax, etc. So we went here. Another great thing about drive in theaters is you can bring your own food and you can have privacy with your date inside your vehicle, if you know what I mean . Just have privacy glass. Because a family of kids can be parked next to your vehicle. If you want, you can bring chairs and sit outside your vehicle and watch. Which is also a great choice. Especially if you have kids. They will love sitting outside. If you do sit outside, bring a coat, blanket, etc. It gets cold at night. The concession is cheap af and not like walk in movie theater prices. For example, their large popcorn is huge. Yet its only $10 with taxes. We got ours with extra butter. They offer a lot of other good stuff too at great prices. But we only wanted warm popcorn with extra butter. I saw some raggedy ATM machines in there. Not sure if concession got them there so you can use cash to buy food. But I didn't ask as I already had some cash on me to buy popcorn. So make sure you bring cash for concession as well. Make sure you vehicle radio can tune to 90.1 FM and you can leave it on without it draining your battery and without parking/headlights being activated. It drives us movie goers crazy when some foolish person will turn on their headlights while everyone else is trying to enjoy the film. Also, if you need a radio for showing, you can buy one from them for $20 at concession. Great experience here. I love this place. Like I said, I havent been here in like 6 years. Last time I was here, one ticket paid for double feature. Which was a steal. Because after Mortal Kombat II, I was looking forward to seeing Michael again. Which we already saw at a walk in theater. But we were ready to see it again on the biggest screen ever. They dont do double features anymore. So if the website shows two movies, dont misread like I did. It clearly says: "TICKETS ARE FOR A SINGLE SHOW TIME ONLY." I was wondering why everyone was leaving after Mortal Kombat II was over . We stayed in vehicle until security drove by and told us they only do single features. We weren't the only ones he had to tell. Great experience here. Cant wait to see another larger than life movie here.

I've literally been trying to make this happen for the last 20 years -- get a truck, throw pillows…read moreand blankets in the back, and have a real drive-in movie night. Somehow there was always one ingredient missing... the truck, the timing, or the friends willing to do it.Last night it finally happened.I convinced two of my guy friends to go with me -- one visiting from Missouri and one from Temecula -- and we were all ridiculously excited. We honestly didn't think we were going to make it because our movie didn't start until 11 PM, but we pushed through. We had a bonfire first, and right as it turned 11 and we were getting ready to leave, I tripped, fell, and sprained my ankle. Worst timing ever. But if there's one thing about me, I do not like bailing on plans. I said nope, we're still going. We were just going to be sitting anyway, all cuddled up in the back of the truck with blankets and pillows, so I powered through. I tried really hard to get comfortable, and even with the ankle situation, it was still such a fun experience. This one is definitely going down in the memory books. There's just something so nostalgic and special about a drive-in movie. It feels like one of those classic '80s activities that hardly exists anymore, which honestly makes me sad. I'm so glad we finally did it, and I would absolutely do it again. If you've been thinking about doing a drive-in movie night, take this as your sign. Do it.
