This is they type of place my wife and I look for when traveling. Locally owned, not a chain restaurant, not fancy, and been in business since 1922. Small cafe that's not fancy. Pictures on the wall of the original owners and staff and old pictures of Mena. They have lunch but we only had breakfast. Open 6 days a week from 530am to 200pm, closed on Wednesday's. First day I had pancakes, eggs and sausage. My wife had the blueberry pancakes. They bring hot melted butter out with the pancakes. The blueberry's were big and fresh. The BEST pancakes I've EVER had! Second visit I had the chicken fried steak, eggs and PANCAKES. My wife had eggs and PANCAKES! The chicken fried steak was decent sized and had a good home style taste. The eggs were cooked the way we ordered and were good too. The only reason we didn't try lunch is because we were doing other things and not in town before they closed for the day. The waitresses were very friendly and provided great service. Both times there were the usual locals and I overheard one man telling other travelers that he eats there everyday. That's one lucky guy! The only thing better than the hospitality here is the food. A group of 6 of us stopped here for breakfast. We all ordered different breakfast items and were pleasantly surprised at how it all showed up at the same time, hot, perfectly prepared, and all tasted amazing. If you go during a busy time, and expect to get your food fast, you may want to grab a biscuit at the Golden Arches cause it took some time as we went when it was really packed. However they clearly state on the menu that each order is cooked to order so don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit, but I promise it is definitely worth the wait. A fantastic "hole in the wall" (by metroplex standards) brunch cafe. After spending a week on the trails I was looking forward to trying Skyline. I had breakfast there twice, and both times were mouthwateringly, stomach pleasingly, awesome. The wait staff were always helpful with a smile, and didn't give me dirty looks for having a "european" meal. Meaning, I did not wolf my meal down in 20 minutes, but took my time to enjoy the food and small town charm. Their corned beef hash is the best I've ever had (aside from mom's), the eggs cooked perfectly, also the creamiest, most delicious, grits I have ever had anywhere (my own aren't even a shadow of these). I love this little country cafe. We arrived for a late morning breakfast and there was only one server on duty. Apparently another left because she wasn't feeling well. The lady remaining was a take charge person. Seating people, taking orders, and running the register. All while re-filling coffee with a pleasant demeanor and smile. The food was great. Omelette, hash browns, toast, sausage, coffee, etc... Very reasonable prices. Atmosphere screamed small southern town. I so wish it was in my hometown. This place has gone down bad from the last time we ate there a few years ago. Service was terrible waited 10 mins to be seated. Waited to pay out and finally just left money on counter with ticket since no one would come and cash me out. Outdated and not up with times because you can only pay case. Waitress was grumpy. The food was not fresh and not good. They also apparently play favorites to the locals. My husband was going to order a breakfast with biscuits. They told him they didn't have any and were out. Then people came in after us and they were served biscuits. Absolutely terrible I would give negative stars if it were an option. read more

Service is a little slow for my taste but I'm from New York so pretty much anywhere else feels slow to me. I got the ribeye breakfast and for the price they charge it's a very generous portion. Had breakfast here twice during a weekend trip to Mena. Really enjoyed the omelets with good amounts of filling, biscuits were light and fluffy, eggs over medium done right, and bacon crispy but not to much! Coffee was refilled regularly and staff was nice. No credit cards, cash only but you can run down to the ATM easy enough. Only thing to improve a bit was to clean the tables a bit more. Good, honest, basic Southern fare, with just a few surprises here and there (for example, a Reuben) thrown in for good measure. Friendly service on the floor, and fairly fast prep in the kitchen. Oh my goodness, this place is one of my FAVORITES! For the longest time I didn't really know it existed, and then my friends and I went one day and I was like "how have I gone so many years without eating here??" Skyline has a variety of food options. I'm a breakfast person, so I always get pancakes, bacon, and a glass of chocolate milk when I go! My boyfriend and I go a lot, and it is one of our favorite places ever. Not only is the food good, but the service is great! Everyone is really friendly, always happy and smiling. Definitely a small town diner with cooked to order food. I had the biscuits and sausage gravy. They have generous portions, but the gravy lacked flavor. Nice little cafe in the downtown area on the square. Very friendly staff and great food. I seriously had the BEST French Toast in my life! Soooo good I'm craving them now as we speak. Possibly the best meal we had on our trip! I was warned to order just the short stack of pancakes by my boyfriend, and warned by the waitress ... If you blink you might miss it. From the outside it looks like a little hole in the wall. In my experience travelling through small towns, these little diners turn out to be some of the best places to eat. We weren't disappointed. It was a little late on a Saturday afternoon and the place was about half full. Our waitress was on roller skates and was very friendly. She did a great job talking about the food and made us want to try one of everything. I decided on the corned beef hash that comes with a homemade biscuit and a side of sausage gravy. The corned beef looked and tasted like they make it themselves and it was cooked perfectly. Good sized chunks and plenty of it. The potatoes weren't your usual frozen out of the bag. They actually cubed the potatoes and seasoned them perfectly. Unlike most places, this was truly prepared fresh. The homemade biscuit....amazing. The sausage gravy was tasty but didn't knock my socks off. Certainly not a negative thing since gravy is pretty easy to make. Ate brunch here before heading back home. It is very popular place with the locals and Christian Motorcycle riders. It can be very busy and parking is where you can find it. The price is just right. The staff is busy busy all day. The food is great. Highly recommended by most who have been in the Mena area. We enjoyed our brunch here before hitting the road home. We will come back. I am lucky enough to work across the street and enjoy there menu as often as possible. Of course I have my favorite, like the Ruben or the Patty Melt or any breakfast food especially the most decadent Banana Nut Pancakes you every threw a lip over. The girls are great and the place is busy with visitors, families eating together and locals. It is a hopping joint and the food is excellent. There are surprises so watch the board. We had a one night stay in Mena, as we met our daughter and her 10 month old son, Joseph. She drove up from TX and we came from KC. Mena was really a delight. It's a cute town with a lot of history. It was built for the railroad and to bring people to clean, fresh mountain air. It turns out as we were driving home and were looking on Wikipedia there was a lot of other unsavory history that wasn't found in the cute little railroad depot that serves as the tourist information center-but that's a whole other story! The Skyline Cafe is right in the downtown, which it turns out was destroyed by a deadly tornado back in 2009. Our server was a classic "waitress"-she was the perfect combination of bossy, helpful, edgy and sweet. She helped us make some great choices, as we had no idea that the blueberry pancakes were a specialty. We were persuaded to choose sides that were specialties and ended up with a little of everything. The sides of corn beef hash and biscuits and gravy were something we never would have chosen, but we decided that when in "Mena" do as your server suggests. We also had a Spanish omelette and much to our delight they had two types of homemade salsa to serve with it. All was delicious. Everything was delicious, and despite signs on the wall warning that they're not a "fast food" restaurant-that everything is "made to order"-our service was surprisingly quick. Our sweet little Joseph of course made a huge mess as he ate, dropped and probably threw some of the food, but our server told us not to worry about it at all. I imagine we hit the restaurant at the right time (before or between when the numerous local churches got out)-but if we would have had to wait for our food, it would have been well worth the wait. read more
