I am from Mt. Ida and eat here regularly on Fridays because they serve catfish. Today with my meal I received no tartar sauce, no hush puppies and they gave me something that was supposed to be cornbread but was cake. The waitress did leave a bill but disappeared until we were finished eating. I explained that what was supposed to be cornbread was not and she said it was and she didn't make it not her problem. I paid for the meal and had enough cash to not leave a tip. It will be the last time I ever step foot in the place. I know the difference between cornbread and cake and what is rude and what is acceptable.i assume she is a relative because no company would put up with her. We had eaten here several years ago and had a great experience. We went this past Saturday and were very disappointed! I had the bacon cheeseburger and my husband had the char grilled chicken sandwich. Both meats were from frozen bags. No flavoring seemed to be added. Small pieces of bacon were on my burger and they were almost completely burnt . The buns were old and fell apart on us. The only decent part of the meal were the fries. They were frozen from a bag, but they were good. Our waitress seemed to be bothered by us even being there. She never refilled our drinks and never checked on us. Simply took our order, delivered the food and brought the check. We will not be back. read more

The 2 of us each had the cheeseburgers they were very good the bun was exceptionally good as I love a fresh tasting bun. we chose this place as we thought it offered a wider section of pies. Was in the area visiting from Houston and wanted a good homemade breakfast. This is the cutest country / small town restaurant ever!! Our server was just adorable!! (Sweet woman happy as ever with long braided hair.) When I took the first bite of the hash browns, I knew it was all going to be amazing. The sausage was so good!! The biscuits were perfect!! If you want good food & locals, this is the spot. Decor is early American Redneck. Metal signs, jackalope mounts & dim lighting. You never know about small town diners. I went with the chicken fried steak. Kinda my go to test meal. The flavor was fair but the portion was small. Almost like a chicken fried hamburger. The staff was friendly but kinda laid back. Not really in a hurry let's just say. Not a bad place but not a great place. Unique country decor. We stopped in for breakfast today. I got the two egg breakfast and it did not disappoint. The decor of the restaurant was rustic backwoods country, you never get bored just looking around! Service was great and our waitress was prompt. My only suggestion would be a complete overhaul of the bathrooms - they were foul to say the least. If you're driving through stop on by, use the facilities elsewhere. read more

This was a good ole country diner ! I had read the reviews which seemed pretty good. This place wasn't far from our cabin we rented . The service was good maybe not as well as the locals but good. The food was pretty yummy . I'm not a big breakfast person so got the country fried steak breakfast which really scratched the spot . It was delicious! My hubby also enjoyed his meal he lives regular breakfast foods he got their big homemade pancakes . If we are ever back close again we will be returning for sure . They had a special for a bacon cheeseburger with fries with a drink 6.99 or a chicken sandwich fries with drink 6.99. They were both really good. I got the chicken it was huge, hot and delicious. It was so fresh it was to hot to eat. Simple, fresh cooked diner food. The menu was actually bigger than I expected it to be. Had lunch today, pulled pork with sides. Best slaw & baked beans I've ever had and the smoked pork was tender and flavorful. Service was friendly and food came out timely and hot. Our waitress was a delight - friendly, helpful, attentive and very sweet; sadly, she was the best part of our dining experience. The burgers were mediocre, and they don't have mashed potatoes on the menu which detracted from an otherwise tasty chicken fried steak. The rest of the dinner for our party of four was entirely forgettable. Because Mt. Ida is a small community, there aren't many choices for in-town dining. The Mt. Ida Cafe is good for a hot meal, but not a destination. They take no credit or debit cards.
