Calling all Swingers!
S&S Worldwide built this giant compressed air swing ride--the world's largest--specially for Cedar Point. Several parks across the country actually feature their version of the 'Screamin Swing' as an upcharge attraction, which means that you'll have to pay an extra couple bucks *on top of* general park admission to ride it.
Fortunately, here in Sandusky it's included with general admission, so you can enjoy it as part of your stroll through the park's Frontier Town area. Located near Maverick and next to Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Skyhawk's seating arrangement is 10 passengers across in back-to-back rows, for a total of 20 per 'arm' and 40 riders total per cycle. Individual pneumatic lapbars keep you secure, and that's very much needed because.....
It's intense! It starts off innocently enough, but after a few swings back and forth the arms REALLY pick up speed and you soon find yourself hurtling towards the ground face-first. Moments later you're experiencing weightlessness as you're left staring up at the sky, and once again come rocketing back towards earth at 65mph (!!), but backwards!
At full swing, the arms reach a height of 125ft and a maximum arc of 120° (which is more than horizontal, so you're partially upside down). You can get disoriented on this ride in a hurry, so those who have any trepidations about pendulum-style rides would be wise to stay on the ground while their friends brave this brief but thoroughly exhilarating thrill machine.
Although the ride time itself is VERY short (only 1 minute long), Cedar Point's installation is the biggest in the world and doesn't cost any additional fees, so this gives Skyhawk an edge over its competitors. I'd say a solid 4.5* experience, but lines move rapidly so you should have little difficulty in getting on.
So........
