Had been meaning to do it for years, and finally did this past April. The "training" consists of watching a 2-3 minute DVD, that consisted of telling you the following facts: 1. when the door to the plane opens put your feet on the step and cross your arms across your chest. 2. after you jump, your instructor will tap your shoulder, at which point you can uncross your arms. 3, when you are about to land bend your knees and raise your feet. The staff and enviorment is great, and its not 'scary' at all. The one disclaimer I will make is that they will tell that is not like a rollar-coaster, but a gentle sensation of floating. I found that to be untrue, as to me it felt like a roller coaster. I will defiantly try it again next season. read more

Skydive Newport is a great place for beginner-level tandem skydiving. My friend and I had an easy time booking a reservation a couple of weeks ahead of our jump, and the experience day of went smoothly as well. My friend was an extremely nervous first timer, and her tandem partner Nicky was definitely instrumental in making her feel safe and comfortable with her jump and was very personable and chatty in the plane. The pricing here is slightly higher but comparable to nearby competitors. A student discount (currently about $20) is also available with an ID and you pay in cash. For those with their own photography equipment, I would recommend verifying if it's allowed b/c I was told on the phone that they have a policy of requiring rental of their own equipment for safety/liability reasons (thus they are more strict than some other places that I've been to when it comes to using your own equipment and costs would increase for you if you elect for a photo/video package). In addition, for those that are more advanced adventure seekers or have more experience skydiving, the planes they have (Cessna 182 planes with wing extensions) allow for causing altitude of around 20,000 feet total, but the standard skydive here is made at 10,000 ft altitude of which 5000 ft is free fall (around 45 seconds total, but my friend said it felt like 5 minutes since she was so nervous). This jumping altitude is pretty standard from all the places nearby I've checked out, and if you want to jump from a higher altitude, I'd recommend finding out prior if they would allow it (I know I will for my next dive). Overall, even with the slightly higher price, we're glad we chose Skydive Newport. The instructors have a lot of safety credentials and diving experience and honestly, the views of Newport can't be beat. Skydive Newport is unique in the immediate area in that most of the other competitors jump from landlocked areas whereas Skydive Newport has the advantage of all the beautiful mixed land/water terrain. I wouldn't hesitate booking here again. read more

I went skydiving for the first time with these guys last weekend. I've wanted to go since I was twelve or so, and these guys really helped it live up to all my wildest and most exciting dreams. From the moment I walked in, the whole atmosphere was one of laid-back professionalism, very encouraging and friendly. There was a guy just certifying as a solo diver as I arrived, and the staff was clearly every bit as psyched as he was. Checking in was quick and painless, some instruction and we were rolling. I was impressed by how many people came by to check on us and our gear as we waited - I felt very safe. The whole staff was super friendly. The flight itself was beautiful and the view beyond words. If you want a scenic skydive, I cannot recommend this place enough. We could see from Long Island to Boston. ...and the jump! Again, I never felt anything but safe. I'm admittedly the opposite of afraid of heights, but Nicky's enthusiasm and professionalism let me know I was clearly in safe hands. No worries, just pure exhilaration. My wife has always wanted to sky dive on her 50th birthday and this past Saturday we arranged a surprise for her at Skydive Newport. This was her 1st time ever skydiving and we will definitely be back. From the moment we walked in the door everyone there was super helpful and humble, no airs about them but you could tell they all knew what they were doing. They go through an instructional video with you and provide all the gear. Even a jumpsuit if that helps you feel more comfortable My wife's instructor was Nicky Sergi, who was awesome. He put her at ease, talked her through everything, and we could tell from the video that he was having as much fun as she was. The guys on the ground talked to us constantly and even knew which chute was hers. When it opened they pointed her out to me right away. I highly recommend doing the video dvd and photo cd. The photos really capture some of the great moments that you don't always pick up on on the video. Nothing better than seeing as far away as Cape Cod and the Islands on a beautiful clear day. We will definitely be back. I personally have a great fear of heights but am planning on doing this next year with my wife on our birthday, since our birthdays are only 2 days apart. As a small business owner myself, I know you can only be as good as your people and the people here are fantastic. You can just tell when the people working there are enjoying themselves and having as much or more fun than you are. And you can also see their attention to details and safety. Awesome experience. I went yesterday for my first dive and it was the most amazing expierence! The staff was very friendly, warm and funny! I went with a friend of mine and our instructors were great! They explained everything to us, they took a ton of pictures of the both of us and made us feel very comfortable. I highly recommend getting the picture and video package if this is your first jump, you will want to relive the expierence again and again. On my 30th birthday, I opted to skydive in Newport rather than some of the other options around. Most places offered a view of trees and maybe some mountains, here you can expect oceans and beaches. The folks at Skydive Newport were really friendly and joked with me as we went through the training. I watched the gentleman that was going be my tandem partner jump and video tape the person before me. When it was my turn I was totally blown away by the wonderful view of the shoreline. Once the chute was open, I asked if we could do any of the flips/turns that he did on his own when he was floating down after taping the other guy. He laughed and said sure. It was a great day with wonderful people I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. read more

I can't recommend them enough! I had my first jump on 8/15/14. First off by safety records this is the safest one I came across (only 1 twisted ankle upon landing in the entire 16 years) and you can't beat the view! I jumped with Nicky and he was awesome. You get there, sign papers, watch a 10 minute video and then get strapped onto your harness. Then you met your skydivers and they take you out and wait for the plane. These guys were really fun and laid back but still remained 100% professional. I didn't second guess them for a moment. Nicky also went over checking my harness with me twice before we exited the plane. The plane we went in only fit the four of us, and we jumped out around 10000 ft. It was absolutely amazing. I have jumped a few times before this time at a few different locations, we went with a group of six people, two of which have never been before. When we were looking for place to go we REALLY wanted something scenic. I mean falling from a plane is exciting enough, but being able to enjoy the view on the ride up makes it even better! We got there and everyone that worked there greeted us immediately, there excitement really got us seasoned jumpers pumped and helped put the newbies at ease. From the moment we walked in to the moment we touched down not one point did we be made to feel out of place or unwelcome ( I say that because a few other places around NE are catered more to people whom do this on the regular so us tandem jumpers almost are looked down upon). Marc (the owner) was quick to answer any and all questions we had. Definitely made us feel like friends as opposed to just customers, never rushed.. Even outside watching our friends fall he was out there with us chatting and pointing out the different scenic point in the area. A few of us opted for the video package (GET IT!) You will deffinitly want to watch it over and over if not only to see your face while your falling from 10k feet, but to be able to see all the things you missed while rocketing back to earth. Nicky was my jump guy he was exceptionally nice to talk to and made me feel safe the entire time, checking and re-checking equipment the ride up and down. If there were six or more stars these guys and gals would get em all! If your reading this its because you wanna jump... DO IT!, and do it here! My daughter and I went last weekend and of course it was awesome! The Operation - It was a pleasant surprise seeing Mark run such a smooth operation, much better run than other places I've been. Other places have left me standing around for hours waiting for my turn, waiting for the weather to clear, watching the crew not really seeming to have their act together, etc. This place had us watch the training video, up in the air and back down in less the 90 minutes. Our jumpmasters knew their stuff, they were professional & confident while also getting us pumped up and making it a fun experience for us. It's nice to have confidence in the people running the show when you are putting your life in their hands. The Location - No way you can beat the view of the ocean, the islands, the bridges, mansions, etc. anywhere else in New England. Looking around after the chute opened and we were drifting down was so much cooler than looking at a bunch of trees up north. The Jump - I've done a static line and a solo before but the tandem was just as good as the solo and maybe better. Much less prep time, same free-fall thrill and so much less to worry about. The Extras - I did not think the landing pix were not necessary but I definitely recommend paying the extra $ for the DVD and CD pictures, it is so worth it! The jump plus the DVD is expensive but IMO it is money well spent for a real thrill and a memory you can call up for years to come. Go for it! read more

Outstanding experience. As soon as you walk in the door it became apparent that this is a truly professional and safety oriented operation. After watching the safety videos and being "geared up", we met our instructor who again adjusted all the equipment and reviewed the safety procedures. The airplane was clean and appeared well maintained. The skydive was amazing and the view of southern Rhode Island was beyond description. My instructor, Chris, was very knowledgeable and put me at ease throughout the entire event. Before we landed Chris reviewed the procedures and made sure my 50 year old legs would be okay. Every part of this experience was amazing and fun. I'm not sure how many people that they take on skydives but I felt like the only one when my time came. You can imagine how nervous and overwhelmed I felt driving to the airport. The owner walked me through the check in and made sure I knew what they were doing before each step. The weather was perfect that day and several people were going on skydives. There was no rushing and everyone seemed to be sharing in the excitement. I just went skydiving this Saturday and could not be happier with the entire experience. From arrival to landing time was about 45 minutes. Therefore, there was literally no time to be scared. The staff was great - very laid back but confident. The plane is VERY small. You're literally sitting on the floor with just enough space for 4 people plus the pilot. Its a great ride up to 10,000 ft. with awesome views of Newport and the surrounding areas and an even better trip down. Highly recommend! read more
