I was there on a Saturday night with 6 friends a few weeks ago. The food and service were excellent. There happend to be a band that night called Overdue and they were very good. Perched at the top, for years when hubs and I'd made the curve from I-87 into Rt 28 in this area,, we'd always notice the SKYTOP neon sign. But that Steakhouse has been lonnnnng gone and made way for Sky View Mexican Res't. We'd just gotten in under an hour before closing on a Thursday night and were welcomed with a smile and open arms. This bright, unfussy restaurant offers all the crowd-pleasing classics you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant (think guacamole, tacos, margaritas, etc) but made with their own tasty flair. The ceilings are high and the space is big. I'd like to come here during the day just for old times' sake (though the surrounding feel outside has changed). Chips+Salsa complimentary did the job and the Guacamole, came out like a minute after we ordered. Hmmm. Plus it was filled with A LOT of big, diced tomatoes. My Tamarind frozen Margarita with a tajin rim, was something special. So if you aren't opting for a frozen margarita with your Mexican meal, then you just aren't doing it right. Just make sure you ask for your drink to be strong- otherwise, it won't do the job. The Tamarindo used here is so true- and you won't get any of that bottled "mixer" shit. The tajin was great- I mean...this was a sure-shot hit. Hubs decided on the Shrimp-Beef-Chicken Fajita mix- which he loved. There was so much of it, he ended bringing some home. My garlic shrimp was done in a seasony and tasty sauce and the accompanying rice side, was on point. Kernels had a nice firm feel- and thank goodness it wasn't mushy. I had lunch yesterday 10/29/25 with a friend. We always try to find a point midway between where we live to meet for lunch once a year. We scored GOLD with this place. service and food was exceptional. I have to admit it was some of the best quality Mexican food I ever had. I was up in the Catskills hiking and was extremely hungry afterwards. I found Sky View and saw the reviews and decided that was the place. What a space! Huge indoor room, a party room and an amazing terrace. We sat on the terrace and started the order. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They were constantly checking on us and getting what we ordered. The food was all delicious and was a great size. Everything from appetizers to main meal to desert was so tasty. Read the reviews before choosing. I guess we were there on a bad day. Service was good, the waiter was pleasant. Enchiladas were overly moist, bone served in it too. Rice was packaged and beans soupy and not a great flavor. Taco salad had very large pieces of vegetables. Never have I had a taco salad with cucumber in it! No cheeses at all and I had to order sour cream and salsa to add to it it. read more

Well I'm not too up on Mexican but my son has just moved into the neighborhood and he suggests it. Then we get there and I remember this place from years ago, when I came up to see my family in West Hurley!! The weather is just perfect and we decide to sit out on the back patio, with a view of Kingston in the distance. My friend orders a margarita and it comes in a real margarita glass! "It's outstanding." I order a delicious glass of red wine. Just perfect We order burritos, beef, chicken and cheese. I order the chicken quesadillas with rebaked black beans and rice. The guacamole app is teeeeny tinnnyy but tasty. I loved my quesadilla! The small pico de gallo portion was such a delicious crunchy addition to the plate. Veggie combo was also a great menu option and my husband loved. Others at our table had chicken dishes and it looked like all dark meat but zero complaints. I thought the rice was a little under spiced but the beans on point. We had a Margarita pitcher as well which was $43 for roughly 6 smaller glasses and was really juicy but not very strong at all. We ordered the steak fajitas and the beef was inedible. Just the most tasteless piece of meat we have ever encountered. We then asked for a take-home box and ordered a bowl of the black bean soup. We told the waitress the fajitas were tasteless but she insisted they used the same spices for the beef that they used for everything. We felt they should have comped us for the soup but they didn't. Saw a sign for this restaurant on the side of the road and decided to try it out. We called ahead to ask if they were vegetarian friendly. Specifically, we asked if the beans were vegetarian. I always ask if they use chicken/beef stock or lard. The lady who answered said, "Yes. Our beans are vegetarian, but not vegan." I should have asked her to clarify that... When we arrived and ordered, we learned that, in fact, both the rice and beans use chicken broth. Not vegetarian nor vegan. Being too hungry to go elsewhere, we decided to stay and make the best of it. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and my husband ordered the #11 vegetarian combo (1 cheese enchilada, 1 guacamole tostada and 1 bean taco). In lieu of rice and beans (which come with both our meals), they gave me a guacamole tostada and my husband got a side salad. The chips and salsa were decent and my husband ordered a mango Jarrito (which comes in a bottle). For some inexplicable reason, that took 10 minutes to arrive. Note that, at this point, there was only one other table besides ours. That's when our experience started to go awry. After 30 long minutes, we inquired why it was taking so long. There were only three tables of customers. So, they brought out my tostada and his salad. Both were delicious - which is why I'm not giving this place one star. Then came our hot plates. The enchiladas were a big mess: overstuffed with onions and slathered with way too much cheese. They did not taste good. When we inquired about the missing bean taco in my husband's combo, we were told that because the beans are not vegetarian, they left it out. Makes sense, we said. Can we get something else? That's when the server said substitutions cost extra! Couldn't believe this. After giving us incorrect information on the phone (the woman who did this came by our table, too, and affirmed that she had been mistaken but also insisted that we be charged for any substitutions), both our server and the lady we spoke to on the phone were kind of rude about the whole thing and not at all interested in trying to make a more pleasant experience. The silliest thing is that vegetarian options in a Mexican restaurant cost so little. And we were already paying full price for both our entrees. Terrible service. Mediocre food. Would not recommend. Keep driving to Kingston. There are better options waiting for you elsewhere. read more

Skyview has a lovely view. Best view in Kingston. They also have some of the best Mexican in Kingston. No joke. This place is a VAST improvement over the old Skytop Steakhouse. Their burritos are huge and quite delicious. They have this freaking awesome "mexican shrimp cocktail" that I can never stop myself from ordering, even though I know it will spoil my dinner because it's so big. Imagine a bunch of jumbo shrimp (more than you'd expect) floating in a beautifully spiced cilantro forward gazpacho. So fresh, so delicious, irresistible. I've yet to have an item from the menu that was less than delicious. Also - don't miss the flan. It's top notch! read more

Went here today for the first time and everything was great. We were a little hesitant because the restaurant wasn't super busy, but 4:30 can be a quiet time for places. The drinks were great, probably the best sangria I've ever had. Complimentary chips and salsa were fresh, bright and tasty. Our meals were also very good, I had a couple annoying special requests (due to some food allergies) and our server not only knew the menu, but was able to bring everything out with my silly specifications. The food here is authentic Mexican. Delicious, beautifully prepared, presentation flawless and did I say delicious? Wait staff is friendly & professional. The place was packed and we were waited on in a timely manner. Husband had fajitas and the portion was VERY generous and it was sizzling! I had chicken flautas- also a nice portion. (We combined our leftovers and brought home enough for lunch the next day). We appreciated that items start at about 16.00 (although there are entrees in the $30+ range as well). We saw a big beautiful shrimp cocktail of some sort go to another table. Wow! A large group of teachers was in a room inside. This might not be THE BEST Mexican food in the area but it is pretty darn good, at a good price, in a nice setting, with excellent service. We had an excellent meal at the Sky View. We shared the Mexican shrimp cocktail and the steak fajitas. We started with the traditional margarita and upgraded the tequila. It was very good. The beef fajitas were plentiful, nicely grilled with an amazing smoky flavor. They were chock full of vegetables and came with the usual accompaniments. We ended our meal with a delicious homemade flan. The real star of the show was the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail which was more like a shrimp gazpacho in a large goblet decorated with two large shrimp and fresh guacamole. It was outstanding. What a nice place to have a meal with friends. We sat on the patio and it was lovely. Lush and really have the feeling that you are "away". The staff is just so welcoming and accommodating. Old world service with polite servers who don't say "no problem" when you put your order in. The food is good, you can tell everything is homemade and fresh. One friend had Tacos Al Pasteur which looked so good! I'm having that next time. Other friend had a nice plate of chicken enchiladas with half red and half green sauce which she has asked for and was accommodated. I had the chicken enchiladas with Mole ... was very good and I'm glad I got to try. Friends had a nice dessert of Flan. They loved it. The meal was very reasonable, all entrees under $20! Deliciously tasty and secluded Mexican joint situated on a hillside . Features friendly service and a very attractive dining area with wooden vaulted ceilings and a lot of light. Went here for a family birthday on a Thursday evening and it was fairly empty - we were a party of 10. Would have loved to sit outside as it was a nice view but it was too cold and windy. We all were seated and received our drinks and chips and salsa - the chips were a bit stale and the salsa was very bland. We all placed our food order and proceeded to wait - I believe it took about 40 mins for our food to come out and unfortunately it was cold. The rice and beans were just barely warm, the steak fajitas were barely sizzling. While it was a huge plate of food it was very bland and very watery. They also took a long time to come to our table to refill drinks and some drinks they got wrong and had to go back to get new drinks. We requested coffee for our dessert and they brought it out but there wasn't enough creamer. Our waiter was no where to be found so we drank our coffee black. All in all it was just ok for me but I may come here again and try something different in the future. read more
