I have tried numerous Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants, but I was instantly taken back with their salsa, the fact that it tasted fermented and smelt off? Ordered a seafood platter, the mariscada, everything was good until we ate the crab legs. I was also taken back with the fact that there was a strong bleach/ammonia like smell. Brought it up with our server and took back the plate. In the end we still got charged $35 for the entree even though we had eaten maybe 1/4 of the plate. We looked at the reviews online and there has been numerous reviews about the seafood entrees being an issue. Asked the server for a discount because $35 on a seafood platter we barely ate is insane. Server and drinks were amazing, but would have been nice if the manager came to us to address it since he was walking around the restaurant unbothered. read more

My family stop in after the garlic festival on the recommendation of my daughter's visit to their Poughkeepsie location. The restaurant was large and decorated in Mexican style . We were greeted promptly and seated. Within minutes we were served tortilla chips, salsa, and a refried bean dip. Then our drink order was taken and came to our table in approximately 10 minutes! We ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer and place our meal order. Our appetizer came out promptly. They were the best wings i've had in a restaurant!! Crispy and seasoned perfectly. Lunch... waitress was pleasant and efficient. Chips, salsa and a bean dip provided while waiting for order. Food was good, not too spicy for the norteamericano palate. Ample portions. Piped in mariachi music was way too loud... I measured at 80 plus decibels... too loud for conversation. Prices for lunch have risen dramatically since covid. The restaurant's decor had the atmosphere of being in an authentic Mexican restaurant! My food was delicious and the vegetables were grilled to perfection and there were numerous shrimp. My one complaint on the food was that the mango chunks were hard and from non ripened fruit. The dressing was delicious and very flavorful! The server was wearing a mask but most of the time it was falling below his nose. He did not have a good understanding of the menu offerings but did come back and ask questions on our choices . Large cantina type setting, bright, with both booths and tables. The only negative is the cleaning solution used in the dining area is at times overwhelmingly smelly. We went here after the rehearsal of my daughter's wedding in Saugerties. At first it did not look too busy, but honestly, a place such as this would do a lot more business for happy hour and dinner. We were seated promptly, handed menus, and brought a nice warm basket of tortilla chips, along with the customary salsa...AND a plate of re-fried beans! Don't know if this is typical in other places or not, but it's the first time I've ever seen it...nice touch. I ordered a mojito, which was swimming with fresh lime, and refreshing. My meal was a combo with a beef burrito and a chicken chimichanga. Both fresh and hit the spot. The others at my table has street tacos and a seafood quesadilla. We all finished our plates so I guess they enjoyed theirs as well. For those familiar with Puerta Vallarta in Conn. the decor, atmosphere, drink and menu selections were very similar, so if you like one, I guess you'll like the other. Went to Casa by myself tonight as I was coming through Kingston for work. It had been on my list to check out for a while but their website doesn't mention a Children's Menu and we have a son who will eat anything, as long as it's chicken fingers. I arrived shortly after 5pm on a Wednesday and there were already a few tables seated with a large group arriving at 5:30. I was seated immediately and brought some complimentary chips and salsa as well as a refried bean dip plate. Chips were pretty good, the bean dip was flavorful with a bit of spice but the salsa was underwhelming. Tomato forward but lackluster with any heat or sweetness that I had hoped for. Not bad, not great. I ordered a frozen margarita and also a coke. The coke was an old school bottle and for $2.99, well worth the price for taste and nostalgia. The marg fell short of exciting me. Not sweet enough and not boozy enough. Now for the star of the show. I ordered the guacamole and a minute later, a cart arrived at my table and I realized it was going to be prepared table side. Two whole avocados were cut and all the delicious goodness that makes guac what it is was added. The server/guac artist, asked if I wanted spicy, cilantro, salt, pepper, etc. I said yes to all. When she was done, I had more guac than I could ever eat and trust me, I can eat. I think it was about $11 and worth every cent and then some. For my entree, I ordered the seafood burrito. Going off memory here but I believe it had shrimp, scallops and white fish. Drenched in cheese and a nice sauce. White sticky rice on the side with some fresh veggies and more beans. Packed with shrimp, abundance of flavor and plenty to eat. Easy access off a few nearby roads with large parking lot. Dining room pretty specious. Oh and to answer my question from the beginning, they do offer a kids menu and it has Chicken Fingers! Bueno! I'll return with family in tow! read more

The food was okay, nothing to rave about. My server was great, no problems there. However, I'm frustrated by the menu being misleading. When ordering a combination plate, the menu says add sour cream and guacamole for $3. However, I was charged $5.50 and the reason I was given was because it is $3 for each or a deluxe discount of $0.50. For the portion I was given, it absolutely wasn't worth it. read more

This food establishment came on like Roman Candel, but sadly, it has fizzled out. I can't count on one hand how many times this, a place that features a guacamole station, has run out of avacado. Are they not paying the produce bill, or is it bad management? This issue is dwarf by the fatty steak meat used in the Carne Asada and other places on the menu. This used to be a game changer. Lastly...what use is it to have a menu laiden with pictures if the food doesn't come out looking like it does on the menu? We have had an influx of South Americans to the Hudson Valley, and along with them came a hunger for the flavors of home. This is evident with all the new South American restaurants popping up all around the Hudson Valley in recent days. Consumers are aware of good food...WE NOTICE. While I love the ambiance and the food is pretty good, there is a concern with the drinks and communication. On the menu it clearly states a gran margarita is margarita with top shelf tequila. The bartender started making the drinks with well Tequila. I mentioned that the menu says top shelf and he changed it. The problem is double charges us for the drinks. $17 each? Seriously. I think he thought we asked for something different than the menu said. With that said, we will not be going back due to this miscommunication. This is also not the first time. We should have been charged the regular price for the gran margarita. We were also ignored for at least 5 minutes while sitting at the bar. My husband and I tried this place today even though it received 3.8. The place is huge. We both ordered the steak quesadilla. The portions are huge but the quesadilla was so greasy. I have no gallbladder and the grease gave me instant acid reflux and later a belly ache. Neither my husband or I ate very much due to this grease. This is not real Mexican food. Edible, yes. Authentic, no. We ordered enchiladas and the sauce and cheese on top tasted like pizza. The beans are regular canned refried beans, the salsa that goles with the chips tastes like Tostitos. Now, I'm fine with simple, store-bought flavors, but I can get those in a jar in the supermarket. When I go to a Mexican restaurant I expect more complex flavors. I have been to hole-in-the-walls with real Mexican flavors-deep smoky salsas, rich, sophisticated sauces and moles.
