But, ordering a sandwich and taking possession of it quicky changed those first impressions. My chicken salad on rye toast was delivered to my table by the deli chef. It was bigger than expected, and first bite opened my eyes in pleasant surprise. The chicken salad was chunky, creamy and had very fresh taste. Combined with a thick red tomato slice and dark green lettuce, inside real rye toast, it was very good and enjoyable. It was almost too much to finish. The shrimp had a slightly fishy taste, and the bread didn't resemble proper po' boy bread. The greens were a spring mix, which felt like an odd choice. Traditional shredded lettuce would have worked much better. I've had po' boys in Louisiana, and while I wasn't expecting complete authenticity, I was expecting something closer to the spirit of the dish. This version missed the mark. Smash Burger - Probably the best of the three mains we ordered, but still just average. I've honestly had better smash burgers at chains like Shake Shack. Sides: The fries were great. Pleasantly surprised that they use pocket-shaped bread instead of the traditional hoagie or sub rolls. It was fresh, refreshing, and the kick from the peppers was just enough for my mild spice tolerance to be enjoyable! I'm no local, but it feels like a locals only kind of place that serves the food quick and serves it well with no frills.
