Hands-down the worst marina I have ever had the displeasure of going to. The owner, John "Skip" Moir, continually lied to me about when he would get to fixing my boat. I would call after. Period of time, he would apologize and them give a new eta and then blow through that time. He would do it again and again. I gave him many opportunities only because he was local and in town but after this last time going many months with that same old line of saying one thing and not delivering and stringing it out and stringing it out and stringing out, I will absolutely never bring my boat to him again and don't recommend you do either. I saw multiple other mad customers he was either talking to in person or over the phone while I was waiting to cash out or dropping off, so it's not just me. Do yourself a favor and just stay away and find another reputable marine service shop. read more

Skip's Marine is a great place. I had to leave a review so people aren't thinking that one guy from 2011 is the only opinion here. Trust me, there are a LOT of us that go to Skip and have excellent experiences. To set the stage: I have had several lake boats (mostly I/O Mercruiser) and wake/surf boats (mostly inboard V-Drive stuff with Ballast systems) that Skip has worked on, and he has a guy for EVERYTHING. They've done maintenance, winterization, interior cleaning, exterior buffing, upholstery repair, instrument repair (including cruise control) and i have been AMAZED at the pricing and turn around time. One time, my truck was in the shop, and Skip himself drove the boat over to my house so I could have it for a holiday weekend. I have found this operation to go above and beyond in every particular case, and I feel that a fair price is always charged. I would not hesitate to take any boat you've got over here, they got some serious expertise and will get you straightened right out. This isn't a fake review, I am a real person that hates to see Skip have only ONE negative review up on Yelp; it's a bad representation of what this operation is really about. I couldn't find a boat shop to even look at my boat because it was 12yrs old. They all basically said the same thing, too hard diagnose and fix within your desired budget. The owner Skip and lead mechanic Marcus agreed to look at it and try to save my families boat. They warned me as all the others had that I'd be better off buying a younger boat, but I pressed because it was the "family boat". They pulled the engine, literally tore it down, and found a cracked block due to improper winterization (done by a certified Mercury). They cut me a deal on both parts and shop rate without asking, and got the family boat running for a wonderful season of memories. I personally feel they are great, professional, and more importantly compassionate to the family man. read more

Sorry to blow the 2016 review "out of the water" but I used Skips for years to maintain my boat, winterize it and keep it in good shape. I relocated to CA from MA and needed to store and have my boat taken care of. Often I would get a call from Skip saying something had gone wrong with the boat, not sure how this could be as it was being maintained by his shop. I had left my credit card on file to pay for the storage and winterization. On a few occasions, these repairs were done without my consent. I finally wanted to sell the boat due to it always needing repair, as it sat there being "professionally maintained and winterized". Skip started the process of selling my boat and once again he found many things wrong with the boat. He said he had several mechanics looking at it and that it was very hard to diagnose. This was a Cobolt 206 and a Volvo Penta engine. I had asked him if he consulted with a Cobolt dealer or Volvo Penta engine tech and he said that the team he was working with had the appropriate experience. Months went by and he finally found a buyer. After he took his commission and took his 7k repair fees, I did not see anything from the sale of my boat. Having asked him for documentation several times about the boat's sale, he never even wrote back to me breaking out how this transaction was finalized. I had explained to him that I did not want to end this relationship on a negative note or have to write a negative review but still did not hear back from him. If I had to do this all over again, I would have relocated the boat with me but if I had to keep it on the East Coast, Skips would be the last place I would use. read more

Very poor service, they seized a like new engine on our boat!! they do not back up their work because they know it stinks. extremely unreliable and inexperienced "so called" mechanics. do yourself and your boat a big favor and pass right by Skip's Marine! read more

I have been going to Skip's for three years now and am very happy with the work, timing, and price. I bought a little runabout/bow rider from him and was pleased with the price and product. I asked him to get it ready in time for our vacation and it was all set and waiting the day before. Last year I lost track of time and the day before my vacation I called him to see if he could get it ready. He picked it up from my home and had it ready on Friday for a Saturday start to the vacation. Any repair issues I have had he resolved in a timely manor. Skip & his team have been marvelous over the years. I have a sailboat & a motor boat that have been restored/refurbished to original if not better condition. The other day, I was having an issue with my bow rider after months/years of no issues. I call Skip on a Sunday morning, not only did he answer but diagnosed the problem. Allowing us to enjoy our day on the water! I trust Skip to perform all maintainence, take his suggestions, winterization, shrink-wrapping, you name it, anything to do with boats. read more

Worse possible service ever! Dropped my boat off in August of 2010 and still do not have it back. Original quote went up 300%. Didn't return my phone calls. Put other people in front of me and kept pushing my repairs back since he was "so busy". This is the worst customer service ever. Do not do business with this guy. He specifically told me there is someone who is disapointed every year and this year it is me. I am ready to picket his place of business. read more

Beware of Skips Marine. My mistake for not checking reviews (yahoo/google) but don't let it happen to you. I was over charged, lied to and swindled. The work done was very, very poor and when I voiced my displeasure to Skip, he became extremely aggitated and agressive. This type of business gives repair shops a bad name. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I wish I had read the review here and elsewhere. This place is the worst experience I have had in dealing with repair shops! LIES, Excuses, Lies..oh my aching head! I paid them just so I could bring my boat elsewhere...Does not listen, shoddy work, when you question him he gets angry & aggressive. IN over 14 days I called 3 times for an update.."I will call you back , when I feel like it"...Save your HARD EARNED MONEY and a couple years on your life due to Stress and go somewhere else....heck saying a prayer over the problem would do a better job than this place....they missed so many obvious things I wondered if they even know what they are doing, fuel leaks, carb leaks...just a litany of BS when PROMISED DATES came and went...I could go on.....the worst experience I have ever had with anything mechanical....DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more
