    Edmonton Laser Centre

I found this one through a coupon site with a good deal, and it had previously won Consumer's Choice awards in earlier years, so it can't be that bad, right? So, I decided to try them out! There seems to be a few shady practices in Edmonton that try to take your money and give you burns in return -- but Edmonton Laser Centre is professional through and through. The outside doesn't really shout "high end salon" -- no giant glass windows or modern furniture here. In fact, it's on the second floor of what looks like an almost run-down strip mall on 97st. But, inside, it's very clean, no-nonsense. Sort of reminds me of a Medicentre look. The technician who worked on me is an older woman who says she's been doing this for about seven years. She's very professional and sympathetic when you yelp a bit in pain (I went there for laser hair removal), but it's all very straightforward, no frills, no real conversation. If you want to feel super pampered or anything, this isn't the place for you. But, if you want to get rid of some unwanted hair, I'd give this place a try! Make sure you e-mail or call ahead: they are By Appointment Only, w/o regular hours.

I was supposed to go for just a consultation, but she ended up being able to take me right away. I was quite pleased as many of the laser places offering groupons had reviews of not being able to get in, or impossible to get a hold of them. Stripped from the bottom down, I had no idea what I was in for. A simple yet clean place, the woman was quite professional. She didn't explain much, only what was needed, handed me some cold air thing that looked somewhat pervasive and told me to spread em. She turned her machine on and I braced myself. Oh the pain. I had no idea the pain would be like this. With a minor smell of burning hair, I just kept reminding myself. Just one year and I'll never have to shave again. Just one year. No more razor burn. Within seconds it was over, and I don't think she got all the area I wanted, but I wasn't about to ask for more. All in all, I've already seen a difference and booked my next appointment (apparently i'm a sucker for punishment). The cold air thing really helped minimize the pain when I remembered I had use of my arms though. If you are looking to get this done, this company I would say so far are quite reliable and professional.

Friendly staff. Lots of services. Pricy…read more I've known about external affairs for a very long time as I frequent tons of spas. I won a giveaway and was able to try the services. I had my facial consult which was neat because they took photos to see problem areas on my skin. I found the consult to not be so helpful. I was recommended things that other spas would refuse to do to my skin because it was too harsh. I'm super careful and knowledgeable about different treatments so this kind of sent off a red flag for me. They really only recommended treatments which they had the machines for which was pretty limited from what I am accustomed to from going to medical spas. I also was actually taken back by the prices as they were alot more than other places I've been to. Hence probably why I never tried them before. Anyways...I ended up being model for a hydra facial Deluxe for $235 and got 50% off my treatment. The tech was actually new and I felt like she didn't give me a proper treatment because I could feel that she had missed some areas and didn't focus on my problematic areas (nose and chin). Luckily I was using a gift card and got a discount for the treatment. But if I had paid full price I would definitely have been disappointed. Overall. They have good options available for treatments and plenty of products which I am yet to try. And maybe I'll come back for one of their specials. But my skin didn't feel or look as glorious as it typically did compared to getting a $235 treatment elsewhere. So I'm not sure I can justify the full price from this experience. It was overall a positive experience but a few things were off for me. I am a spa addict and I have extremely high expectations of going to a spa for treatments so take this with a grain of salt.

Where to start? I have been going to EA for almost 20 years. Unfortunately, things have really…read moregone downhill there... appointments cancelled last minute, double-booked providers, botched permanent make-up and more. This used to be a wonderful business until Becky left. Today they called me to cancel my appointment for tomorrow due to an administrative error. I needed this service done asap because I had out-of-country guests arriving in a few days and needed time for swelling/bruising to settle. I told their employee this, thinking they would try to accommodate me somehow. I told her I've had a lot of issues with appointments and service the past few years and it was becoming unacceptable. She was unconcerned. I said she should cancel both of my upcoming appointments, and I think I will need to go elsewhere in future if this is the best they can do. She said Ok - she would cancel the appts, and clearly intended on doing nothing further and content with losing a customer. I told her I was shocked that she was willing to lose a long-term customer so easily and would make no effort to fix the situation. She offered no solution other than rescheduling. The employee finally said she would have someone in management contact me. I received a call from a rather condescending young guy who said he was the owner (I'm assuming he's one of the original owners' kids since he had the nepo baby attitude and no clue about how to deal with problems). I tried to tell him what had transpired but wasn't given much opportunity to do so. He only wanted to talk at me with a preconceived perception of what happened, and not to listen. I told him that I've been on the receiving end of several mistakes there and that I was at the point of going elsewhere. His response?... "It's probably best that we part ways"! I was stunned. At this point I started to wonder what his employee had told him about the original call a few minutes earlier. I wondered if perhaps the reason for his attitude was because the employee gave him an inaccurate depiction of our earlier conversation. Was she afraid she'd be in trouble for handling the situation badly, so tried to make it sound as though I had been abusive? I suggested to him that if they record their calls he should listen to the earlier call and find out what actually transpired, I had calmly and clearly indicated my unhappiness to the employee but there was no abuse, no swearing and no yelling during the call. He said that his employee was crying because she was so upset (funny she wasn't upset in the least when I spoke to her). I told him this and his response was that he thought I was now raising my voice. I wasn't. It was my normal voice and I assured him of that. At this point it seemed as though he was just trying to provoke me. It was simply unbelievable. I hung up as there was no point in any further dealings with an individual who treats customers so disrespectfully and offensively. I can honestly say that I've never in my life been treated so badly by anyone representing a business. When lousy service was brought to their attention, I was falsely accused of abusive behaviour and insulted... with no proof. Funny, in almost 20 years of going there, I had never had an issue with any staff at EA. Even when they made mistakes, we always had pleasant dealings. If they aren't recording calls, they should start doing so immediately to avoid insulting and alienating customers. When you start falsely accusing longstanding customers of bad behaviour you have a serious problem with your business. This was glaringly apparent from my conversation with Junior. Perhaps he's really the problem. Based on my experience, the employees are emulating what they see from the owner.

On September 1st, I sent an email to schedule epilation and asked for the price. They answered me the same day that they could not determine the exact price because it ranges from $125-$350. They made an appointment for me to come on September 9 and then they will tell me the exact price and that I can do the first treatment on the same day. In the evening after work, I saw the email and replied that September 9 suits me and that I will come at the scheduled time. The next day, they replied that I had 4 hours to respond to their email, but since I responded after a few hours, they already made an appointment with another person, and they can only receive me on September 16. I wrote to them, why didn't they tell me that, why didn't they mention the 4-hour deadline for an answer. I asked for a conversation with the owner or manager, to explain to them how unprofessional they are and that this way of doing business is zero. To this day, they have not deigned to answer my email, nor to allow me to speak with the owner. It's a shame that they do so unprofessionally and unorganized. It is unfortunate that such persons are paid for such irresponsibility and discourtesy. Firstly, they don't even know the prices, and secondly, they can't come up with the dates when and how to make an appointment. After my negative rating, the owner sent me this email: "This is the owner. I signed off as the owner when i picked up the conversation 3 emails ago. And if this was my staff you were speaking to this way i would not be so polite. Threats are not welcome here and because of these threats, you are no longer welcome here.
