I noticed this recently and the fries with chilli my wife and my favourite in the city are greasy as hell now. Also the guy at the front is rude and condescending typical spoiled brat vibe and they do not serve in order she waited and my wife has heart issues so standing their waiting for our order. I can not stand long because of a disability so she went in and immediately mention the counter guys attitude which surprised me as my wife is a super bubbly friendly person who treats everyone around her with respect she avoids confrontation at any cost so i was not happy when i heard and saw how shaken she was!!!! She watched everyone get their food ahead of her and she ordered before all of them plus gave them a 15 percent tip when she paid. We will not be going back again after going their for over 60 years this was our last visit. Ever since the old Italian guys sold it it has gone down hill ! Between the attitude of the server who acts like he is doing you a favour by serving you i mean i noticed it once before i went by myself and was not busy they really need to move him to the back or i am worried someone might clean his clock his attitude screams please punch my face type of guy. The hot dogs now seem to be of a much lower quality then before. They must have changed their supplier before they snapped when you bit into them like European style hot dogs like before when they were served everywhere when Winnipeg was a much more European type of place with a European influenced culture being the most dominant. Now they taste like maple leaf crap that's the reason so many people loved them because not as many places had that style of hot dog anymore and the once incredible fry and chilli is becoming a gross greasy mess!! I do not mind a little grease but when its a 1 inch soup at the bottom of a plastic container soaking through the bag its in that's when i have a issue with it this and many other things including the high prices. This was always a blue collar place a place where a working man could afford to take his family on a Saturday drive for ice cream and burgers and still have some change left in his pockets. Many still go they are always busy some of this i believe is based on nostalgia but if things do not change they will start to lose business. I hope they read this and take it as constructive criticism coming from a long long time customer who supports local businesses religiously who has been going like i said to this place since 1965!! Please make the changes because its a Winnipeg institution one i hope goes on forever as Winnipeg has lost so many great family restaurants over the last 15-20 years so many really great places that served great Canadian and British food like great prime rib and Yorkshire pudding at The Beefeater a typical Canadian Sunday dinner when i grew up here Alycia's C Kelekis the Paladin so many great Ukraine and Italian where as now its all East Indian and Chinese stuff!!! Your chilli is still good but is missing something that it had before plus we could do without the the excessive grease soup at the bottom never had that issue with the former owners that just shows lack of caring about what your serving the paying customer and the burgers are still good and so are the plain Frys but they used to be great and they can be again sometimes success ruins something special and i see it coming with this place. Please go back to the old hot dog supplier or deep fry them for a second or two like you used to the old Italian guys knew best and make sure to drain excessive grease off customers fry and chilli and please get someone taking payments who can deal with the public that is a nice personable likable person not someone with a smarmy passive aggressive attitude . Hire someone who enjoys this type of interaction with the public not some rude angry guy with a chip on his shoulder . I understand that it can be difficult at times people can be jerks but if you treat nice people like that even in a passive aggressive manner smart people can feel it and recognize it and that is enough to lose them as customers. Dairy Whip deservers someone who can handle it professionally and its loyal customers should be treated with respect many have been customers since it opened in the late 50s!!!!! Without them you can not operate a profitable business. My father in-law who is not a fussy eater complained last year when we took him here as he lives out of town and wanted to try his teenage favorite place he was so disappointed and it was out of character for him as he will eat almost anything and be grateful for it!!! At the time i just shrugged it off but i finally had to call it out .I hate to have to write this review but in doing so i hope it will help Dairy Whip get back on track as one of the best drive inns in Winnipeg again!!!

After eating about 5 veggie burgers in the last month (at Boon's) I had to balance it off with a…read more"real" burger. So I splurged (calorically speaking) on a burger at Mrs. Mikes. I don't really give out 5 stars that often but this place really deserves it. I am still shocked and amazed at how good their burger is! I ordered the cheeseburger ($5) - kinda pricey compared to VJ's. But Mrs. Mike's burgers are bigger comparatively speaking. The cheeseburger is on a sesame bun, probably the size of a whopper. The patty is just slightly bigger than the bun and cooked with a slight crisp on the outside but still juicy inside - I love that! The flavour of the beef patty is perfectly seasoned and balances so well with the cheese, pickle, chili, onion and mustard. They don't put too much chili on their burgers so it's not as messy to eat but you still get the chili flavour. Of course I had to order their fries ($3). Now I'm torn on their fries because I was expecting the type of home cut fries (with the skin on) like at VJs but the ones here look and taste like McDonald's fries (although they taste a bit better than McDs). I have my moments when I love McD fries but when I am going to a local burger joint, I totally expect more "homestyle" fries. So maybe that pulls them down to 4.5??? I don't know...it's all subjective anyways and I'm neurotic enough to get a cheeseburger here and drive down to Broadway to get the fries at VJs. LOL. I was pretty full after finishing the cheeseburger and eating half the fries but I didn't feel too gross. You know that feeling when you've stuffed yourself with too much greasy food. So 5 stars for the cheeseburger and 4 stars for the fries = 4.5 stars, but I gave them the 5. The place seems pretty clean and organized in the kitchen. I was a little confused about where I was suppose to place my order as there are 2 widows (one in the front and one on the side). For the most part, it seemed like you order at the front, then wait for your order and then pick up and pay on the side window but then again some people did it differently. This place closes in the winter and closes at 7 pm so it's not a late night burger joint. There is no indoor seating as there are only picnic tables on the right side, which is about as scenic as a parking lot/alley - I took mine to go. All the prices listed on the board include taxes so it'll be a round number when you pay (CASH ONLY). They have a king burger (which I'm curious to what in includes), no fat boy but maybe the king burger is their version of one??? They also serve chili fries, milkshakes, and chicken fingers. Note: they are open seasonally (closes for the winter). Tues-Sat 11 am to 7 pm.

Yelp inaccurately claimed that Sandy isn't open on Sundays, but as we pulled up, the "OPEN" sign was brightly lit and we knew we were in luck. Sandy specializes in burgers, dogs, fries, and onion rings. The burgers - slathered with grilled onions and cheddar - were delicious, juicy, and everything you could ask for on a road trip through Manitoba. Milk shakes were equally good, thick, chocolate-y - highly recommended. Sandy also does pizza but we didn't try it so can't comment. She's a character - when I mentioned Yelp's mistake regarding her hours of operation, she just shrugged and said she doesn't pay any attention to that sort of thing. I'm with her...!

I was curious and looked up the address. I then headed over here for a late lunch last Monday. This eatery is located in a small plaza with a lot of parking. I backed into a parking spot and walked in. There was no one in the eatery. I waited for a woman to come out of the kitchen. She was apologetic and thought that I had waited for a long time. I hadn't. I was able to sit anywhere. She gave me a few menus. She had chicken noodle soup as a feature not on the menu, but no specials. I also got to see the regular, drink, and dessert menus. I ordered the following items: - Pink lemonade - Schnitzel plate For the schnitzel plate, you can choose to get pork or chicken. I went with the former. I also went with mashed potatoes. You can also get fries. It came with gravy and coleslaw, with a slice of lemon on top. I got a glass of water. It was cold. It hit the spot. My pink lemonade came out next. It was so pretty. It has strawberry syrup, lemonade, fresh mint, and many sliced strawberries. It was refreshing and yummy. I loved the strawberries. The lemonade provided the right amount of tartness. This drink was mildly sweet. The schnitzel plate came out next. The woman asked whether I wanted hot sauce. I was okay without it, as it came with gravy, which was perfect. I got three pork schnitzel pieces that were pounded thinly. Each one had the crispiest coating. Each piece was yummy. It was the best schnitzel that I have had in a while. Excellent! Frankly, everything on my plate was excellent. The gravy was smooth and full of flavour. I poured it on my schnitzel and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were buttery and perfect. This dish was comforting. The coleslaw was creamy and crunchy. It was so fresh. My plate looked like I had licked it clean. Everything on it was so good. I wanted to get the Russian honey cake to go. Sadly, it had sold out, which meant to me that it must have been yummy. It wasn't on the dessert menu, but she described a strawberries and cream swiss roll. I said yes and got to take it home. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. The transaction was smooth. I went to use the washroom. It's a single stall. It was extremely clean. The strawberries and cream swiss roll was excellent. It was slightly sweet. The cake was moist. The strawberry flavour was perfect. I barely tasted the cream, which I liked. I'm glad that I got it. I loved dining here. I want to drop by again to try more items on the menu. If you're in the area, come here. It's good comfort food. (228)
