Do you love standing in long lift lines, in an over hyped cookie cutter resort? This is not the place for you. With almost 100 runs, with a good mixture of skill levels, you will not be bored. The runs are not a long as some of the big CO resorts, but since the lift lines are short you ski just as much if not more. The snow was pretty good, even though it's been a rough season. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. The price was pretty good, with weekend and week day pricing. You won't shuck out $250 for a lift ticket here, which will let you enjoy Ski Apres. $6.50 Slice of pizza, what? There are also standard $20 burger, but they are giant. Step away from the giant corporate resorts for a little slice of Southwestern heaven. The drive up is spectacular and it was nice that they had shuttles from the parking lot. Once done with the day, take the short trip to the Rail District for some tasty dinner and art. read more

I think every skier in New Mexico is here today. Parking is terrible on ice. There was a mile long line waiting to go up the hill to the entrance. Got the kids settled in with their instructors. They get done at 3:30. Evidently 400 applications for the 60 spots. They are lucky to have gotten in. Met both instructors. They were only open for breakfast in the cafeteria at the base of the mountain. $14 plus tax for one of worst breakfast burritos I have ever had. I think the cold soggy potatoes were cooked last week. Ugh! read more

This was an additional destination for our trip to Ski supposedly in Sandia. No snow yet in the original destination for us to ski and we already got our trip booked. Ski Santa Fe was suggested by my good friend to go to since her family had come here! Glad we tried. It was packed!!! Parking was not easy and had a bad experience with a local who literally slid in the spot where we were backing into. But the site! It was beautiful. If you have your own equipment it's much better. Though I must say knowing the rates of how much the equipment is buying your own and flying with them? I think it's worth it. Also they're very efficient. Both staff from the shoes and the ski area (shout out to John and the other staff who was very patient helping me with the ski boots---I wish I got his name!) were very helpful and kind, and respectful. This was my first time and while skiing is not for this flip flop/ swimming, barefoot lady---lol, after falling four times, and almost breaking two ankles in less than four feet I thought well, I enjoyed the sight, the badasses, the skylight, friendly people and the staff who encouraged me to give it a shot. This is a more affordable choice if you want to go skiing. Next time I'll bring my own snow shoes to hike instead as I enjoyed doing that! They have lockers but you need to have cash for the tokens. For the crowd they have---it was more organized and they do know what they're doing. My bf had a great time of his life and so happy we got to ski here! read more

I used to be a regular at Ski Santa Fe, and for years I actually thought their customer service was good, especially compared to Ski Apache. Unfortunately, that has changed -- or maybe my expectations have. After spending the last couple of seasons skiing at Monarch Mountain, coming back to Santa Fe was a shock. Either the bar has been raised elsewhere, or Santa Fe's customer service has genuinely gone downhill. The biggest issue is the lift operations culture. While waiting in lift lines, lift operators are constantly yelling at guests. I understand keeping things moving and staying safe, but this felt excessive, hostile, and unnecessary. One interaction was especially troubling: after being treated rudely by a lift operator, I calmly asked for his name so I could provide feedback to mountain management. Instead of de-escalating, he threatened to have my pass pulled for the day. That's not customer service -- that's intimidation. There's also no clear guidance on where you are allowed to stop on runs. I was stopped behind a clearly posted "slow" sign and was yelled at for stopping there. If there are rules, they are not communicated well to guests. I'm not someone who expects luxury or hand-holding -- just basic respect and consistency. I want Santa Fe to be good again, because it used to be. Right now, though, the tone coming from staff feels adversarial, and that takes a lot away from the experience. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, because the mountain itself deserves better than the service that's being delivered. read more

What a great time to Ski! Berry and I decided to hit the slopes. Now if you're looking for value, then this is it. You get your moneys worth at Ski Santa Fe. You can rent all of the equipment and store them in the pro shop. It was pretty busy the day we went so we made the best of it. Traffic up the mountain was a nightmare. It was the "one in and one out" method so waiting is mandatory. People were even walking up to the resort to get a head start. Take the mountain for a spin!! read more

Love the new express quad chair, a great improvement over the lift it replaced. Prices are quite reasonable considering the exorbitant fees charged in Colorado. I am deducting 1 star due to parking situation: I have asthma, and I got sick one day and they won't allow me to park closer to the base even though I was bringing my son for private lessons worth $500 alone. This sucks big time. Another star deduction for that cramped lodge up the mountain. They charged $11 for 2 teas and almost scalded my hands because as the server said: "we don't give out lids". The sad part, they had lids... read more

Overall a nice little ski mountain. As expected, needs improvement in certain areas, but overall had a good experience the 3 days I spent there. I was surprised to see that the base lodge was so small in the downstairs level where most skiers need to store their stuff for the day and was also surprised that it was so cold inside there. Wasn't real happy about either of those things. Additionally, I had paid 75 cents to lock up my snowboard outside the lodge overnight and when I returned the next day, the key would not open the lock. I had to find someone to call maintenance and then waited like 20 minutes for someone to arrive and he couldn't get the lock free for another 10 minutes, and that was after calling another man for help. Meanwhile my friends waited outside there with me as time ticked away from our 80 dollar lift tickets! So yeah , there went 30 minutes of time out on the slopes. Not cool at all. Lift tickets are pricey and they don't do Liftopia so there's no deals to be had. It's also one lane going up the mountain and one going down so if it's crowded like it was the one day we went, you're screwed. It literally took us an hour and a half to drive to the top on a Saturday blue bird day. Lame. Totemoffs Lodge up the mountain is fun but is so ridiculously small for seating and the slice of pizza I had for like 4 bucks was legitimately the worst pizza I've ever had. Never again. Get a tamale or just pack your own stuff. Craft beer prices are friendly at about 6 bucks a pint. Getting a spot by the fireplace in Totemoffs is like winning the lottery as far as I'm concerned. Good things...staffers are quite friendly, plenty of parking, lift lines move quickly and efficiently. Finally, way way way more trail grooming is needed and they need more chair rails for snowboarders to bind up, but that's a problem common at all resorts. read more

Very crowded, and expensive. No reservations week of Christmas. This made for an extra stressful experience. You have to race up the mountain in grid lock bumper to bumper for an hour, and get to the check in by 8am. If you don't (we got there at 10am) -- you'll be praying that they have enough equipment. We drove from out of state so thankfully they had the boots and skis. There were only 5 poles (2 of which were bent) left. The whole thing is a mess. It's completely unorganized and stressful. We did the day skiing but only got to do 4 runs on the green because the lines were insane. We decided to go to Angel Fire for the night skiing the next day instead.. it was an entirely different experience (amazing) for half the money. We will never go to Ski Santa Fe again, but Angel Fire-- we will absolutely return. Skip Santa Fe and take the beautiful drive on up to Taos instead, it's worth it. read more

As a first time skier, I thought the beginner lessons were extremely helpful. My family had Mary as our intstructor, and she remembered everyone's names and exuded such a positive attitude. For the second half of the lesson, we had James as our instructor. We took the lift to a larger hill and he taught us how to turn and how to do what he called a J-curve. The first half of the lesson was from 10-12, and the second half was from 2-4. The two hour break was much needed for lunch, and they had a large cafeteria with many food selections. Althought it was overpriced, the food was really good and extremely convenient. Some downsides were the employees working at the rental locations. Even though they were friendly, they were quite lazy with their job. The start of lessons also seemed a bit disorganized, but after forming groups they went well. This place is very beginner and family friendly! Definitely recommend arriving right as they open because parking fills up super fast. I think by 9:30-10am, people have to start parking down the street and not in the lots. Also around this time, the ski rental lines ans sign up lines are EXTREMELY long. The lockers are also pretty expensive. You have to buy tokens, each $2, for every time you open your locker. So if you forget something, you have to pay $2 more. I would also highly recommend carrying water bottles and protein/granola bars with you during lessons! You put your stuff against the fence and nobody touches it- just keep valuables in your pocket just in case. Just remember to stay hydrated and arrive as early as possible! read more

Rating ski resorts throughout the enchanted state of New Mexico, this one's a solid four stars. Let's evaluate why and how this one compares. Taos owns the sole 5-star out here, and there are plenty of 3-star: Sipapu, Angel Fire, Sandia, and Ruidoso easily meet the mediocre mark, but that's no slam, all of these (okay, Ruidoso is steepish, price-wise) balance lesser-challenging slopes with fair costs for lift tickets. If Ski Santa Fe was located in Colorado, it could overcharge, but it isn't. Overall it offers plenty of challenging runs for experts (double diamonds are solid), most runs are intermediate, and their ski school gets kiddos (and those of us who wanted to snowboard in their 20's) off and sliding, er, hurtling downward, safely. A few important notes. The ski season in this state is very short (November through February, if we're lucky), but a well-timed visit when the powder's fresh and the sun's out offers an unforgettable afternoon, sometimes you can ski in shorts. Be on the lookout for igloos of indica -- yeah, I said it -- just because the stuff isn't legal 'round here doesn't mean the average Santa Fean isn't tokin' on the summit. Food and drink generally win, they don't offer European eats like Taos, but there are plenty of reasons to unstrap your gear, grab some grilled yummies and a pint, and soak up the rays. A reasonably priced getaway from Albuquerque and a short drive from the Plaza make this a great go-to for a winter adventure. read more

A great little mountain for skiers and snowboarders. It's a little smaller than most, but there's plenty to keep people of all abilities happy for a couple of days. The size pays off in the prices, which are well below the bigger, fancier locations (adult, full day lift pass only $84). The rental facility gets overrun easily and it can take up to 2 hours to get your boots and skis/board. They offer the option to pick up they day before (between 2 and 3pm only), but the better option is to stop at Cottam's on the way up the mountain road to save time and money. The free parking is extensive, with a shuttle from the far-off parts to the main facilities. It's an open air trailer, so you will be out in the elements from the get-go here. The rental lines are outside too, so be prepared for standing in the cold (if you didn't rent from Cottam's). They use tokens for the lockers and the overnight ski storage ($2 each). The token machine runs out really fast, but you can get them at the kiosk with your lift ticket. They have a solid selection of blues and blacks (including double-diamonds) as well as a good number of greens. The latter get clogged a bit with classes, but the big lifts get you up to the top and away from the chaos pretty easily. The runs are a little more gentle than their equivalents at other locations (e.g Taos), so intermediate skiers will have no trouble taking the blue runs all the way from the top to the bottom of the mountain. It's about a 30-minute round trip from the bottom to the top and back down. The single road up from Santa Fe turns into a slow precession at peak times. You really need an AWD or snow chains to make it, but many try in 2WDs anyway, and grind everything to a halt. It's a beautiful drive, just plan accordingly. Food options at the base and the halfway house Totemoff's are solid but basic. They advertise WiFi at the base, but good luck getting connected with hundreds of other people doing the same. Cell signal is non-existent, so don't plan on keeping up on your social media or even texts/calls. You'll have to wait until you're almost all the way back down the mountain road before you're in signal range again. Overall a great place to a quick, reasonably-priced snow break. Just plan around the peak rushes on the road and in the rental facility to avoid huge time wastes. read more

For my first time skiing, this place was pretty awesome! It was easy to get around and figure out what to do, but I wish there was more guidance for us first timers. We kind of just moved along the assembly line with lost looks in our eyes! But no worries, we figured it out. For a beginner, I would definitely recommend the "Never Ever" class. Our instructor Don was a great teacher and took the time to teach every one of us. He was so kind and such a great encourager. Can't wait to come back! read more

Popular ski slopes with kids ski school, plenty of group ski classes at the level of your choice, good size mountain with slopes at varying levels of difficulty and enough lifts to keep the lines reasonable. They do offer helmets, skis, snowboards, and boots for rental. There is a restaurant at the top of the first ski lift and a cafeteria style eatery in the main lodge at the bottom of the area. While they can get crowded at times, there are parking shuttles so you don't have to walk all the way. read more

It was PACKED today and this past Saturday, but if you go on the left part of the mountain, away from the beginner section and quad, it's not as crowded. They recently renovated the lodge with more seating and better bathrooms (no more grungy, clogged toilets!). The food at the lodge is actually pretty good now, too! I had a nice shrimp salad, the bf had a good nicioise salad, friends had a panini that looked excellent. Food/drinks are reasonably priced. read more

Skiing is one of my passions in life. To experience winter at 10,000-12,000 feet with two skis fastened to my feet is pure joy. Freshly waxed and sharpened skis navigating around moguls or flying down a freshly groomed run is magical. Ski Santa Fe just expanded La Casa Lodge. The food is moderately priced; I purchased my standby green chile cheeseburger, bag of chips, and hot chocolate for $10. If hot cocoa isn't strong enough for you take a lift up to the mid-mountain restaurant Totemoff's. This restaurant has a lot of character and charm...ski memorabilia, fireplace, and a full bar that includes Spaten beer. If you want more than drinks, Tamales can be purchased inside or grilled chicken, veggie, or hamburgers can be purchased on the restaurants deck. If the sun is shining and you want a rest, Totemoff's deck is the place to loosen the boots and take it easy. The views of the slopes cutting through the Santa Fe National Forest are breathtaking. And a hamburger at 11,000 feet tastes like filet mignon. Oh, the skiing. The ski area offers runs for beginners to the expert level. If you want to brush up on your technique or have never skied or been on a snowboard, Ski Santa Fe offers group and private lessons. Children? Yes, Chipmunk Corner has you covered: from daycare for infants, children's play for the toddlers (that aren't ready to ski) and intermediate to advanced lessons for the experienced children. I highly recommend reservations during the holidays. Ski Santa Fe is only 1.5 hours from Albuquerque. All the real snow is under the man made but, as usual, Ski Santa Fe abides. Grooming keeps it all skiable, thanks folks. Friendly staff everywhere. The parking guy dug out some snow by my tires to make it easier to pull out. The ski shop guy helped me fix the zipper on my parka. The clothing shop guy noticed my season pass and gave me a discount. The food court cashier saw me wandering around and asked if I was looking for the water closet, I was. That was all in one day and I'm pretty sure I'm missing some of the lovely people that helped me that day also. It's Santa Fe so lots of great folks skiing to meet. For what it is, Ski Santa Fe is a very good place to go. Nothing is fancy about it, this place is about the skiing/boarding. The views from the summit at over 12,000 feet are fantastic, nicely groomed cruisers and they have some real good tree skiing if that is your thing. I wish they had a high-speed chair or two but for the price of a lift ticket here, i won't complain. Not a place to ski a week straight but for a day or two if you cant have fun here there is something wrong with you. read more

We drove. I-40 in Amarillo was closed. We went thru El Paso, which made our trip 4 hours longer. We figured when we got to Colorado it would be 2pm. Instead we stopped in NM and got a half day in. Overall it was crowded, but it was an opening teaser to Wolf Creek. Altitude definitely got to me, but I quickly adapted. My day rental was expensive ($85.00), lift ticket ($65.00), long lift lines...but all was forgotten when we rode up the quad lift up to see t he view from the mountain. My only complaint was long lines returning rental and long lines for their ghetto "shuttle" back to parking lot. Actually, my 2nd complaint would be they need to update their trail maps on the actual trails. I went down a mogul on a pass. It literally killed me. I LOVE Santa Fe. This might be my NM roots showing, but I think it is a fantastic ski area for all levels to visit. The snow this year has been absolutely incredible, which is icing on the cake. From expert skiiers to beginners, there is a run for everyone. Some of them will push your comfort zone, but that's the only way to get better. Definitely come on the weekdays after school has gone back. The crowds are the locals and ski bums. Nothing like getting on a lift right after you get in line! The food is delicious. What a nice surprise this mountain turned out to be. We spent the weekend in town and with the incoming storm decided to head up here for some skiing, glad we did. This place is a real gem. It is close to the city, affordable, not too big, and the staff are super friendly. We are seasoned skier/boarders and were not expecting to much but this place definitely turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Plenty of greens/blues with a handful of blacks. The signage was adequate but once the storm blew in if you do not know the mountain you better pay attention. The lifts are a little slow but they keep them moving at an acceptable speed. One of the lifts has a carpet lift at the loading station which was nice for loading but it dumps you at top so we saw more than a few folks crash while unloading. The only downside to the trip was literally coming down the mountain. The snow plows had not hit the road on the way down by the time we left and it was a tad challenging. We were in a fullsize truck with 4wheel drive which came in handy since we ended up pulling a Lexus back onto the road after the driver slid off. All in all this was a great day of skiing and will definitely go back. read more

I arrived in Albuquerque after a flight with my buddy and took a shuttle to Sante Fe, where a friend picked me up yo snowboard for a couple of days. Santa Fe Ski Basin was only 14 miles from our friend's house. We rode on Tuesday, where there were very nice corduroy trails. We were one of the first to hit the lifts and crush the trails. Hardly anyone was there and the riding was great. It got even better on Wednesday. As we drove up to the mountain, it began to flurry. We were hoping the mountain was getting rocked by snow. When we finally arrived, the snow was coming down hard! By the time we got ready, about an inch of fresh powder was on the mountain. By lunchtime, the mountain had received almost 8". My friend in Santa Fe said they hadn't been hit with this much powder at once all year. It was great. My favorite trails were Parachute (black) and Gayway (yeah, I know. WTF? haha). We called it "Gateway" instead. There is a trail that cuts across the lower part of Parachute which allows you to hit a natural hit, or jump. This was my favorite hit on the mountain. You can catch some sick air here. Before visiting the mountain, I had read many reviews about theft. I purhased a lock for my board and my buddy's board who was traveling with me. We locked them up during lunch just to prevent theft. There we're 150 people tops each day we rode and I didn't feel as if our boards would be taken. But you never know. This was the first time I've had to lock up my board. And I'm from NYC... The food at the lodge is ok. We had penne with meat sauce both days. A large is $7.25. There is also pesto sauce if you choose to have that. Other menu items include sandwiches, eggs and such, and fried foods (chicken, fries, etc). Lastly, some of the workers here are jerks. One of the lift workers scanned our lift tickets and asked if we had snowboard leashes. I replied with a no. He said we'd had to get off of the line and purchase a leash for $5.50. He said this was a state law in New Mexico. I didn't bother pulling out my phone to search for this, so I purchased two leashes for the both of us boarders after telling the guy he was taking his job too seriously. I mean, skiers and snowboarders mounting the lift without helmets isn't illegal? How is a snowboard leash mandatory? Idiot. This same guy said he was the "Boss" here when we asked why no other workers checked us for snowboard leashes throughout the day. The economy must really be hurting in New Mexico, I suppose. A few of the workers had bad attitudes but 80% were really nice. I enjoyed this mountain very much although you can likely ride very trail on the mountain in a full day especially if you are a snowboarder and do not like riding moguls. The conditions were great and this mountain already had a base close to 7 feet. Our two-day lift tickets were $114 each. read more

I guess this review goes here, since there's no real address for the Aspen Vista picnic area and trail head. This review is for the ASPEN VISTA TRAIL. This was a gorgeous place to hike in fall with all the Aspens changing color. The trail is actually a fire-road, but no cars are permitted on it. It's a pretty straightforward hike, although the altitude can sure make your heart beat fast! I'd highly recommend anyone visiting the Santa Fe area in fall check it out!! Because we found the location hard to find (DO NOT TRUST THIS YELP MAP) here are directions: Follow Paseo de Peralta to Washington Ave on the North end of Paseo de Peralta. We had a good trip, but here are a few tips: - don't trust your phone gps. We went an hour out of the way. Ask a local. -Get there by 9. We were late- it wasn't awful, but would have been less stressful if we were there earlier. -Our kids did the full-day Chipmunk ski school and loved it. My oldest can be difficult, and they were fantastic with him. My youngest is 4, which is the youngest they take, and again, they were great. -My husband and I took the never ever ski lessons. They were fine. Maybe should have sprung for private lessons. -Food is overpriced, but not more than expected. And it was good. -we went on spring break and we were warned that it would be crowded. I guess I got visions of Disney World type crowds, but this crowd was nothing. I could tell locals were frustrated, but it seemed fine to me. Generally, this is a no-frills ski area that is good for beginners. read more

We came there on 12/28/21, around 11am, the place was living hell. People waiting for 30 min or more in the freezing cold just to turn the white form for payment for the rental skis. The 2nd line is to turn the paid white form and get the ski boots. The third line is to get skis. "Oh, sorry, we are sold out of skiing polls." How is that possible? Next you need to try the boots and pray that they fit but no place is to sit down. After that, it took me 20 min to get on the slope, called "Easy Street." At that point I can't feel my feet. WILL NEVER EVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN. read more

The wait is insane and it's too packed to enjoy. Unless you own your own skis and lockers, it's pretty exhausting and emotionally taxing. I'm 37 and broke down crying because I was so stressed about the 5 hours it took me to get my things (and we had paid the day before so got bumped to the ski boot line ). read more

The customer service here is AWFUL. All of the employees (most teenagers with no manners) were extremely RUDE and unwelcoming. Guy at the boot rental desk ripped my little sisters paper out of her hand. And would not speak to us after we confronted him about it. Too many more negative encounters to list. The food was outrageously expensive. $7 for a slice of pizza that was cold and stale. Didn't have a single nice encounter the whole time we were there. The only reason it gets one star is because the slopes are decent. But the lift... is SO DANGEROUS. Staff says you aren't allowed to pull the restraint bar down in front of you because it takes too much time for you to get off of the lift. Without the bar, there is nothing holding you into the lift, and with it constantly stopping, this is totally dangerous. They're more worried about moving the line quickly than they are their customers safety. And don't get me started on the lines, and how there is no where to even sit to get your boots on. Just terrible. I Do NOT recommend wasting your hard-earned money at this overpriced, joke of an establishment. read more

One of the best things about this mountain are the great views at the top. Which is right where the lifts drop you off at +10,000 ft. There are a good variety of trails for all skill levels, but I found them to be shorter than other resorts. Also a lot of trails will merge at points so it can get a little dangerous crossing certain areas. Another bonus is that the the lodges and restrooms are clean and well maintained with newer fixtures. Nothing irks me more than having a restroom look like it belongs at a neglected trucker stop. As for the on-site food, they throw in some NM flare with the green chili options which is nice. Full day lift tickets are moderately priced and there are many cheaper options available. Such as mid-mountain/green areas, and half day options. That way you buy exactly what you need if not everyone in your group is at the same skill level. read more
