But these older adults be out here putting in work! Classes: I took a Bodypump class. If you've taken it once, you've taken it. Buttt I still enjoyed the class as a whole. Gym itself: okayyy, this gym is deffffff dated. It's on the smaller side, but I haven't been to the floor - only the class areas and locker room. The locker rooms are kind of gross. They smelled like chlorinated sewage and are just kinda grimy. Lots of hair (gag) and dirty lockers. Defffff bring your shower shoes. Showers have body wash/shampoo and conditioner. I also saw lotion and blow dryers and multiple scales. It's not my favorite place but I'll be back for some classes because I like OneLife's class offerings.

OneLife Old Town Alexandria update January 2026…read more Looking back to July 2025 when I first reviewed Onelife Fitness - Old Town Alexandria, VA, things have only deteriorated. Apparently corporate management determined not to allow any additional time between the end of the 11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday Tai Chi classes and the noon start of Functional Lab (on Tuesdays) and BodyPump (on Thursdays). As a result, participants in the Tai Chi classes are still in the room at 4 minutes to noon, because management has elected not to change the schedule to permit more time in between these classes. Today the Group Fitness Director was personally present before the start of the noon Functional Lab class, and deflected concerns raised by participants waiting to get set up for the noon Functional Lab. She dismissed those concerns: she imagined, hypothetically, that participants in the Tai Chi classes would reject the schedule change, saying that if the 11 a.m. class ran from 11 to 11:50 instead of 11 to 11:55 a.m., it would appear that this was a "Tai Chi Lite" class. That hypothetical seems to ignore reality; it also permits continuing disrespect shown by the Tai Chi instructor toward both her peer instructors and participants in the noon classes. As the Fitness Director personally witnessed today, the Tai Chi instructor was still holding class at 11:56 a.m., disregarding the schedule. Whether this approach is due to the Tai Chi instructor's deliberate disrespect of the incoming class (and the respective instructors) or simply her inattention to the time, management has yet to effectively address this problem.

I liked that there was alot of natural light coming in from the window. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the owner Scott who cracked lots of jokes about my 64oz water bottle (it's a huge bottle!) I was acquainted with the studio by Scott and he gave me the run down of membership at the end. Him and the instructor Jay were super great at motivating and modifying workouts and posture throughout the session. There seemed to be a great community here -- everyone was so nice! The place was also really clean and well maintained. Bring your own water bottle 64oz or not -- they have a water station. They also provide microfiber towels and disinfectant spray so you can clean as you go. Additionally parking is free in Alexandria on the weekdays except 4-7pm and F45 has their own dedicated parking space. I was on the fence about F45 but I think after this visit I'm going to join in their 45 day challenge starting 2/5/24! It's a sweaty, fun time here that really makes you feel in shape!

I walked around the building trying to see if I was in the wrong place or if anyone was inside, but I couldn't find anyone. After waiting a few minutes, I called the studio and no one picked up. I went back to the front, and eventually a guy opened the door for me but when I mentioned it was locked, he said it wasn't, which was confusing and didn't sit right. The class ended up being just me, which already made the energy feel kind of off. It was set up as a circuit with eight exercises and four laps. The warm-up alone was three rounds, and I was honestly exhausted by the second round. I told the coach that, but he kept pushing me to finish the last round anyway. I get that coaching involves encouragement, but it felt more like pressure than support. The overall vibe of the class was pretty dull and unmotivating. I'm not sure if it was because I was the only one there, but there was no energy or effort to make the session engaging. I completed three out of the four rounds and told him I didn't have it in me to do the last one. His response was basically, "So you're just going to leave early then?" which came off dismissive and a bit rude. At that point, I was already drained and over it. On top of that, the cleanliness didn't inspire confidence. The shower supplies looked really neglected, residue buildup, cloudy containers, and just generally not something you'd feel comfortable using. It added to the overall impression that the space isn't being maintained as well as it should be. Between the confusing entry situation, lack of responsiveness, the coach's off-putting attitude, and the condition of the facilities, this just wasn't a great experience. I don't see myself coming back.

We stayed in Downtown Alexandria and the gym was around 15 mins away (walking). Such a great cute little women's studio. We did the Bosu class and it kicked our butts. This was such a loaded experience. As someone who frequents many small studios like this in various…read moreparts of the DMV, especially the V, I definitely have my likes and dislikes. Likes: Anna-Maria, the instructor, was very sweet. She was warm and welcoming, very encouraging throughout the workout, and had an interesting playlist. It was also a pretty good workout with the core/upper body sections being better than others. Format: Surge Strength. It was very much a "lift to the music" while bringing in cardio elements workout. I like having music blaring but being on beat (or striving to be) annoys me because you're pressured to break form and not move meaningfully. I probably looked crazy, but I was seconds behind the other people in class because I wanted to actually lift, not swing my arms around. Also, some of the moves (mostly lower body), when moving that quickly, just don't target the areas I want to strengthen meaningfully. For some moves, I'd opt for slower, more controlled, classic moves so I could get it right. We were using "light to heavy" dumbbells - I think the highest is 15 pounds. Also, the "stop, grab your mat, unfold, and do floor work for a couple minutes" thing was kind of disorienting at times. Facilities/equipment: this is my second biggest gripe. While it looked mostly visibly clean, the floors were dirty AF, covered in stringy hairs. Ew. During the floor sections, I could see hair and other debris on the floor and it would even get on me if any part of me even slightly came off the mat, or hairs would be hanging from my weights when I picked them up.yuckkk. Also, the mats were funky. Very clear that they rely on folks doing the one-wipe swipe after sweaty workouts for cleaning and that's gross. They don't have a water cooler or even a cool Flow Water station or anything - they have two water fountains that are relatively low pressure. And they're connected, so only one works at a time. And they looked a little dusty. Vibe: It's a no for me, dawg. Outside of Anna-Maria, there was like NO diversity in the room (maybe one Asian woman in the front) which feels VERY WEIRD when the playlist is VERY Black with a little Brown sprinkled in. On top of that, the women in there were stuck up and some were, frankly, obnoxious. I got multiple stares (Yes, I'm Black! OMG lol) and when I was attempting to fill my water at the ratchet fountain, before I knew they were connected, this one white studio member, in such a condescending way, was like, "hi, yeah, they're actually connected, so..." Girl, bye. Oh, that brings me to another point: It was my first time at that location. I checked in and received no orientation/guidance from the girl at the front desk. I ended up entering the studio room and, thankfully, Anna-Maria was able to help me get set up. I think the girl at the front desk heard me receiving instructions and ran in just as the workout was about to start and apologized for not introducing me to things. But it was very much an afterthought and if I was someone who was super anxious or thrown off by stuff like that, I would've left. Oh, and it's def the type of place where the same people show up for the same classes (or multiple) regularly. To be honest, I disliked the vibe so much initially, I considered leaving like five minutes into the workout. But a player has goals, so I stayed. It seemed pretty clear who this space is intended for. And I've pretty much NEVER felt that way before, even when working out in tiny studios in places like Del Ray and Loudoun. I was less uncomfy towards the end, but initial impression plus hair: ew. You'll get a cute workout in but this vibe? Not for me.

For the first time ever, I LOVE GOING TO MY GYM and WORKING OUT!!!…read more From the moment I sent my first email inquiring about their services to this very moment while writing this review, Foundation Fitness has been fantastic in every possible way. As a result, this review would be way to long if I tried to express all of the AMAZING aspects of Foundation Fitness of Old Town, Alexandria. So, I will hit the main points of interest. Bottom Line Up Front Foundation Fitness is an excellent choice. The workouts are motivational during the session and inspirational in between visits. Their trainers will meet you where you are and help take you to where you want to be. Initial Meeting CJ, the owner himself, has been amazing from the very beginning and did the following in our initial meeting: 1. responded to all of my emails, calls, and questions 2. quickly set up an initial consultation at a time convenient for me 3. conducted a thorough intake and initial assessment 4. took the time to learn why I wanted to work out and what I saw as my 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, and year-long goals 5. cultivated an understanding of my post-surgical/post-physical therapy needs 5. carefully and thoughtfully worked out a fitness plan to address my concerns after being out of the gym for a year due to an extensive surgery and slow-healing injuries Facilities and Trainers 1. The location is convenient. 2. The site and equipment is extremely clean. 3. The atmosphere is positive and motivating. 4. The trainers are kind, personable, professional, encouraging, and exceptionally knowledgable. My Experience Before starting at Foundation Fitness, I had spent a year healing from a tricky injury and recovering from an extensive surgery. As a result, I was extremely concerned about having workouts that are safely crafted to promote healing but also challenging enough to get me back to feeling like the pre-injury me. Not only has Foundation Fitness successfully addressed my concerns, but I am now starting to feel even stronger than the pre-injured me because my trainer is taking the time to teach me what correct exercise form is, how to avoid injury, and functional ways to use my workouts in every day life. I have now worked with Foundation Fitness for about 3 months. My routines are tailored just for me, are never repeated, are over quicker than I wished, and are hitting my goals faster than I ever expected or thought possible. Because I never liked working out before and was bored every single time while doing so, this is all simply miraculous for me. Before, I worked out because I had to do so even though I dreaded it. Now - because of Foundation Fitness - I work out because I love it, look forward to it, and can see results from it. Choosing Foundation Fitness as my gym has been the absolute best investment in my health this year

I can now say that I've stuck with this for almost a year. My longest exercise streak ever! I work with Amie Rowland as my personal trainer and found a schedule that I can actually stick to! Amie's personality is a great fit to mine. Plus, having a set time to meet her twice a week, that I'm paying for, I'm going to keep that appointment. She holds me accountable to the goals we've set, and flexes with me when work or family life cause me to need to reschedule a bit to fit exercise in a time other than my normal schedule. I didn't come to Foundation Fitness looking to have a body-builder's physique. I came here to get toned and healthy. Now, I can keep up with my 7 year old a little better, plus my very active husband. And... I can now help move a picnic table around when needed! My time at Foundation Fitness has been one of the best investments I've ever made in myself.
