I have taken both group and private lessons from Nastassia for rollerblading. I'm in my 40s and haven't skated since a teenager. I decided to start rollerblading again for fitness and to gain mastery. Taking lessons from Nastassia has improved my skating and knowledge tremendously in the three months she has been my instructor. She is an expert skater that teaches the subject well to others and she has a patient demeanor. For the negative reviews saying it's difficult to hear back from Nastassia, I recommend reaching out to her using WhatsApp at 408-409-5060. That seems to be the most reliable point of contact. She teaches inline skating partially during the year from May to October. Then November through April is off-season and she does not teach skating. Between May and October, it's possible to take her lessons mid-season, so you can sign up for lessons anytime, not just the beginning of May. If it's coming up to the beginning of the season, you can probably reach out in April to find out information about the May start. Nastassia's schedule can be found on her webpage here: https://www.skatebetternow.com/lesson-schedule Because of Nastassia's competitive speed skating background, her greatest strength is impeccable skating form, and this is where you gain to learn the most if you are interested in improving your form, and subtle things to do that you may not know about, such as doing a circular crescent motion and putting your weight on the outside edge of the skate. Here are topics I have learned in three months that would have taken me much longer to learn on my own and possibly would never have learned myself: 1. Proper skating technique that improves form, speed, and efficiency. 2. Learning how to slow down and stop safely. 3. Carve turning both left and right. For some reason I could turn right but not left, and Nastassia worked with me to where I can now comfortably turn both ways. 4. Cross-over turning left and right. Similarly, I had difficulty doing left foot over right foot cross overs, and Nastassia reiterated the fundamentals of the motion and gave me some tips that made it possible for me to cross-over both ways. 5. How to properly put on my rollerblades! I can't believe I have been doing this wrong for years, but I was not putting the boot flap all the way inside the skate. I know how ridiculous this sounds, but I had been putting on skates the wrong way since a teenager. Her pointing this out to me was worth that day's lesson by itself. 6. Going backwards. I always admired skaters who look confident going backwards, and I can now go backwards myself. Nastassia also taught me how to transition from going forwards to backwards and vice-versa. 7. City skating with traversing sidewalks, driveways, and crosswalks. One of my primary goals in skating is to get comfortable skating on the sidewalk and street. Nastassia taught me proper techniques for going up and down sidewalk curbs and safely navigating the bumpy terrain that city skating involves. The group lessons are more suited to beginners who are learning the basics of skating. They are also fun just to skate in a group setting. If you are beginner, intermediate, or advanced and want to develop faster and get 1-on-1 training, I highly recommend getting private lessons from Nastassia. For me, it was money absolutely well spent and my skating progression was much better than trying to learn this by myself. read more

I decided as a women in her 30s, I want to get back into rollerblading. Kind of crazy, heck yes!!! Ordered some skates online from Inlineskates.com, I reached out to them and told them my levels and where I'd be skating (streets). Got myself a pair of K2 80 skates. Next step, learn some skills. That's where Nastassia comes in, found her on Yelp, and I'm ever so happy that I did. She offers an adult class on Sunday mornings at 8am, $10 per session. We meet up at Warm Springs Elementary School in Fremont. I've only been to 2 classes and have gained valuable skills. Took those skills out during the week to practice, I can tell I've improved some. You'll need to invest in knee, elbow, wrist guards, along with a helmet. I'm going to look into hip pads, just because I'm getting older. We all will fall, and I just want to be prepared. My son (12 yr old) had beginner and Intermediate/advanced classes with Nastassia Hamor in Jun and Aug this year. It was great and he had a lot of fun in class. For us, the location is kinda far (we are in San Mateo), but it was worth it (one in Milpitas, one in Cupertino). He still has space to improve, but I will say he skates pretty well now. It's a great sport and he loves to practice every weekend. Just want to thank Nastassia for the coaching! read more

With the lockdown situation, gyms are close and we do not get to move much. Rollerblading is a great option to exercise during this time. Nass provides adult lessons in Milpitas every Saturday at 8 a.m. She approaches each student to give instruction based on his/her level. I highly recommend Nass as a wonderful coach for all age groups especially with her skills and teaching experience. Without Nass, I don't think I will enjoy rollerblading this much. Highly recommend Nas as an instructor - from someone who is just starting to roll to someone who wants to hone their skills. Have a 6 and 9 year old in her 9am Saturday class and they are always excited to get to and be in class. I had to get my 7 year old daughter trained in skating and came across Nastassia during my search. My daughter takes time to learn new skills so I was naturally a bit curious about the instructor's style. To my surprise I found the student instructor rapport was instantaneous.I attribute it to Nastassia's friendly, gentle and patient yet assertive and instructive personality. I have taken several private lessons from Nastassia. She is very skilled and is very good at communicating the techniques. In my first lesson, I could not even stand on the skates, but Nastassia's approach helped me get better on the skates right-away. The person who teaches the lessons seemed pretty knowledgeable. I have never taken a lesson from her before, however, I have had the chance to listen in on her lessons where she "used" to teach. I consider myself an intermediate level skater and have taken a couple of Nastassia's group classes and also several private lessons from her, all have been excellent. Nastassia is a very skilled skater and is able to communicate techniques effectively by demonstration and verbally. She is incredibly patient and approachable.
