Time for an update! Yes, after 5 years I am still coming here, typically 3-4 times per week. Group classes are offered Mon-Wed and Fridays, at 7am, 12pm, and 5pm, and there's open gym and personal training options. The owner and head coach, Steve, really makes an effort to get to know everyone and build community here. (Shout-out to the newer coaches as well, Shaq and Jeff!) And dogs still make regular appearances, so you can also get some pet therapy in between sets. (But if you're not into dogs, they get put away, so don't worry! It's hard not to soften up to Hazel though, a very sweet maltese/shih-tzu mix who loves to be pet) There are a number of long-time members here for good reason! So whether you're looking into starting your strength training journey or you're a veteran looking for somewhere to work out, I can't recommend Anchored enough! read more

There are too many positive things to say about this gym, so I'll just list my top 4 favorites! 1-THE TRAINERS- Extremely knowledgeable and take the time to instruct you individually, making sure you don't hurt yourself. They'll pump you up and highlight your progress, making you feel like best gym goer ever!! They are hilarious with their witty light-hearted jabs 2- THE PATRONS- because the setup is like a classroom style workout, you get to know the people you work out with and even if you show up to a class that you don't usually attend, the people are always so welcoming. They have healthy lifestyle relationships outside of the gym as well. A group of them, hike together and invite All, who are interested to tagalong. They work out together, I'm sure hang out together. It's super awesome to have like-minded folks to do like minded activities with. 3- THE EQUIPMENT- SOLID!! I have my own rinky dink equipment at home, but I like going to this gym to use their hard-core, top-notch stuff! 4- SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST - THE DOGS! I joined Anchored Strength & Conditioning back in May 2019 after taking a brief hiatus from lifting. I've tried swimming, yoga, lifting at commercial gyms, kickboxing, and CrossFit. Everything I've done fitness related in the past felt like a chore. I was always trying to get my money's worth out of the membership fees and never truly enjoyed working out until I joined ASC. The workouts are structured and focus on compound lifts with progressive overload each week. Steve will modify and adjust the workouts if you have any injuries or soreness. I joined a morning strength and conditioning course at anchored strength and conditioning. Initially I was looking for a personal trainer, but the owner convinced me to give the group classes a shot. The name of the gym says it all. If you want strength and conditioning, you will definitely get it here. At first glimpse it doesn't look like there's a lot of equipment like you're typical gyms with a bunch of benches and machines. What you will soon realize is that you don't need all those fancy machines to get a full body workout. You that right exercises that will build strength and condition your body. As for the equipment, there's rings, bars, ropes to climb, kettle bells, dumbells, barbells, racks, boxes, weight belts (for pullups/dips), and some rowing machines. Trust me, you will make plenty use of the equipment and those weight machines at the gym will never look the same. Steve is a great personal trainer that will tailor the workout for you. If you have injuries, he can work to help you recover from them. Steve is also great at knowing how to perform the exercises and will make sure that you're doing it correctly. Also, with a small gym, you get this kind of personal attention that will get you in the shape you want. He'll also help out with diet, because its just as important as exercise. The gym itself has a positive energy with Steve and the members motivating each other. I had a unique experience with both Steve and Anchored. At the time I met Steve I was working as lead instructor at coding bootcamp Coding Dojo. Since our students sit all day, we try to get out every now and then for some exercise. Previously we went with an open activity hour, some people playing volleyball, others basketball, and still others the challenging sport of eating pizza on the lawn. One of my students brought up the notion that most students were bored by our activity offerings. She introduced me to Steve, hoping we could add some fitness sessions. Steve started a physical fitness class as part of our sports day, and students loved it and commented on the gains they made repeating the exercise he taught us. Not only did students get engaged with exercise, they also learned the importance of maintaining physical health while sitting at a desk all day. Steve thoughtfully tailored his program to accommodate all fitness levels and target muscles that typically get sore and strained from sitting all day. I was so impressed by Steve's classes I decided to join the gym, along with the other instructors at Coding Dojo. We started group classes and I can honestly say that they changed my life. I had been one of those people looking lost at the gym. Steve taught me a variety of exercises that helped me to gain confidence, not to mention strength. My experience proves that Anchored is not only a lifting gym. The culture is warm, open, and non-judgmental. This review is long overdue but better late than never! I joined this gym five months ago with very little physical strength. I wasn't athletic growing up and the only exercises I would do were yoga and the occasional running on the weekend. I had always been interested in weight lifting and discovered this gym once a lot of people in my class joined. I'm a very petite female and never saw myself capable of lifting heavy weight. Plus I have a chronic SI joint issue, so lifting sounded near impossible and very daunting. But that's where the owner and head coach Steve comes in! HE'S THE ABSOLUTE BEST! He's incredibly knowledgeable and knows what my body can and can't handle. When I come into the gym with an inflamed low back, he is able to give me alternative exercises to do that won't make it worse and are within my threshold. Five months in and not only am I lifting weights I never imagined, I'm able to do pull ups and chin ups I've always wanted, and hitting goals that seemed unachievable before joining the gym. None of this would have been possible without Steve and all the other wonderful coaches who make this gym as amazing as it is! I came to this gym because it was close to work and home. Little did I know what a great community of people I would meet here! Steve has a great way of creating a chill environment and at the same time kick you into high gear to realize your own potential. Humor + discipline. I like this combination, it works for me. Steve is a great trainer! Before I started training with Steve, I used to have back issues because of my desk job. I used to think it can only get worse. But since I have started training under Steve's guidance, I haven't had any back pain. My back is so much stronger and I can trust it to hold up. I feel more stronger every day I train with him. I found ASC when my fitness was at an all time low....Steve is very thorough with posture which is why i can trust that i will not have to deal with injuries .The "on ramp course" is an introduction to several workout that will be done during the regular week and its a 1 on 1 session which  taught me enough to get started. Although I am no where even close to being fit I still learn a lot with every workout.I  look forward to my workouts everyday(just not on Monday ) . After each session i  feel like i have progressed and accomplished  something so positive  and take that feeling back home which i can credit only to the workouts and Steve.The entire ASC family are indispensable parts of my life. **I forgot to mention that the gym is also dog friendly ....so if you are a crazy dog lover like me that just makes the experience a whole lot better. I've been working pretty hard at this gym for about 6 months now so I think it is about time for a review. First off, I would like to thank Steve and his coaches for creating such a wonderful gym. Everyone is very friendly and encouraging. So five years ago, I was constantly hitting the gym pretty hard. It was kind of my way to get aware from everything to have ME time. I would just workout certain muscle groups on certain days but never had a real program designed for me. Yes I did get stronger but didn't see to much progressive improvement. After getting married and having two kids, I was really out of shape and finally had the opportunity to get back to the gym. I noticed Anchored Strength & Conditioning was in the same building complex as my office so I stopped by talk to Steve. He was very informative and explained how his gym works. So six months in, I feel like I'm in the best shape of my life. I feel so much stronger following Steve's programs. What I'm most happy about is the improvement on my squats and pull ups. If you follow the program, work hard and listen to Steve and his coaches, you WILL see results. You do have to put the work in and actually push yourself. I used to hate going to the gyms in the past. I preferred working out at home using home videos like P90X, Insanity etc. Then I injured my knee (thanks to Insanity) and lived in pain for a year. After many failed attempts at PT, I chose to surgically fix the issue earlier this year. My wife and I heard about Anchored Strength and Conditioning during my recovery and soon enrolled for our respective onramps and classes with Steve. I can say that ASC and Steve have done wonders to my overall body strength, including that weak knee. Steve's approach to fitness is holistic and his focus on technique/mechanics has helped me build strength without injuries. I look forward to hitting the gym for the 7 am class. I got to know Steve and the other coaches when they signed a deal with Twitter to run our Strength and Conditioning program. I was an avid gym member (mostly running, some weights here and there), but decided to give the Anchored a try and I'm so happy I did. I can't praise Steve and his team enough. I came in with a bum shoulder, and they helped tailor workouts so that I wouldn't risk injuring myself even more. They also came up with personalized workouts for how I could strengthen it (and it worked!). The coaches truly care about their clients and want us to succeed. Our classes ranged from newbies with no experience, to avid gym goers. Steve tailors his program so that everybody is able to participate and feel comfortable. I tried Xfit before this, and it was way too fast and prone to injury. Steve (owner and coach), on the other hand, takes his time to explain the proper movement and runs his classes much smoother. He is respectful, yet has good humor and keeps us motivated. : ) I've been going for about 4 months and can see a big difference in how my body is changing for the better. I have more strength, and I feel great! He teaches you macro nutrition so you can get the best results. I tried other exercise classes at other locations and wasn't motivated to stick with them. Now, I look forward to each class at Anchored Strength and Conditioning. I like that the classes are not huge. I think the largest class that I've been to here had 12 people. The range in age is from teens to over 70. The location is great; close to 680 and 880. The only 2 minor items are: 1. It gets pretty hot in the gym on the very hot days. There are a couple of fans that help slightly. 2. The gym is shared with another owner/group, and sometimes they drop their metal weights and cause a very loud noise that hurts my ears. However, these down sides do not stop me from going to get my workout!!! read more

I've been training with Steve and his team at Anchored Strength & Conditioning for nearly a year now, and I could not be more proud of how much progress I've made as an athlete and how satisfied I was with their training. Running through Steve's gauntlet of performance programming, I regularly did conditioning, gymnastics, power and olympic lifting, and even prehab/rehab exercises. I made steady progress from his guidance, and attended classes four to five times a week. Personal records were broken, and I learned as much as I could. Steve and his team of coaches differentiate themselves from other fitness providers by their consistent, thoughtful programming. Their programming aims for health, performance, and consistent results. During my training, Steve knew better than I did how much I can squat or deadlift. He always made sure to include accessory movements and variations in order to make sure I never plateaued or got injured. For our group classes, he also made himself available if anyone ever had questions about a movement or required assistance. Although the training was rigorous, the team at Anchored was well suited at helping me improve steadily on both familiar and new exercises. Although working out can be difficult when you're tired or sore, the comradery and friendship with Steve and his coaches makes the experience enjoyable. I started coming to Anchored Strength & Conditioning around mid-April with ZERO experience in weight lifting. The bane of my existence was the deadlift, mostly because I could barely pick up a hundred pounds off the ground and hinge correctly. However, due to Steve's phenomenal coaching and guidance, I am happy to say that in a span of THREE months, I can now (correctly) deadlift three hundred pounds. Steve has definitely mastered his craft. Not only does he provide optimized programs for his classes, he is also very knowledgeable about diet/nutrition, and comes up with the most hilarious puns/jokes, keeping a rather "intimidating environment" lighthearted and fun. I was debating whether or not to give this place a one star review so I can keep Anchored Strength and Conditioning to myself, but when a gym is this good, the world's gotta know. I came to ASC with some knee issues after my PT said to lay off running and lifting. I had heard from my Crossfit coaches that Steve Kpa, head coach of ASC, was a walking rehabilitation encyclopedia. In 6 months, he not only had me squatting pain free, but I added 70 pounds to my squat! Steve is a super knowledgeable and driven coach. A little crazy, probably. Masochist, maybe just a touch. But you need to have that type of passion to be able to create a space like ASC. The atmosphere is inviting and everyone's there to cheer you on whether you're training to be an elite or you just want to work out to be able to have that extra slice of pizza. read more

Ok ok, it's about time I review this place. This gym is special. Steve and Atsushi are running a gym that brings personalizing coaching to a whole new level. During my time so far, I have seen members who have little to no experience on Olympic lifts cleans and snatch moderate weight with solid technique. The members seem to get stronger and stronger every week. I credit that to the coaches. What I love about this place is that they actually care about your well-being. When you have a nagging injury or physical limitation, they don't just tell you to take it easy. They try to figure out the problem and how to fix it. They'll work with you on how you can rehab, all while your strength is not compromised. Many of the members at Anchored have joined with a pre-existing injury and they've been able to overcome it due to Steve and Atsushi's knowledge and programming. Simply put, Anchored really has an effective approach to strength training that is accessible to anyone of all ages and skill level. The cherry on top is that the community is truly one of a kind. I was at a Crossfit box close to 1.5 years before finding Anchored Strength & Conditioning. After injuring my shoulder multiple times and finally being fed up with my embarrassing over-head squat, I was in search of someone that could help me improve my shoulder mobility and in the process also help me improve my over-head squat. After a search, I found Steve Kpa, who I had met when he used to be a coach at my Crossfit box. Even though I only attended a few classes that he coached, I knew he was extremely knowledgeable and thus I paid him a visit. My original plan was to supplement my Crossfit regime with training with Steve. Fast forward 5 months later and I'm only working out at Anchored Strength & Conditioning now. While I love all the people at my Crossfit box, ultimately I decided that working with Steve would help me reach my goals. While fixing my shoulder mobility issues is an on-going process, it has significantly improved. Like Steve loves to say, "Trust the process". My over-head squat 1 rep max has gone up by 80 pounds (~35 kg) and not only did I do my first muscle-up, but I was able to string 6 together! I'm not only enjoying the results but also enjoying the process. While Steve has a lot of attributes that make him a great coach, I will single out a few: 1) Steve is able to work efficiently with people of very different physical levels. He can either help you with the small details (he notices the smallest shifts in weight that affect lifts) to improve your already good Olympic lifts or he can provide the right guidance to someone who has never worked out in a gym before. He's completely comfortable working with anyone at those extremes and in between. 2) Part of the reason he can work with so many different people is because he's very good at assessing a person's strength, weaknesses, limitations and then altering a program for that person. Not only can he assess a person, but he's always very good at being able to communicate what he sees to someone. The community at Anchored Strength & Conditioning is fantastic. Everyone is supportive of each other and the gym is devoid of any ego. I recently had my wife join as well. I'm really happy at this gym. Even though I'm approaching 40, I can honestly say that I've never been stronger than I am right now at this moment. I also don't think my shoulders have ever felt so good either. read more

Steve has been awesome accommodating the students at Palmer College of Chiropractic. The environment is very welcoming and the gym is spacious with plenty of Olympic lifting platforms. I came to ASC after being away from the gym for a while caring for my mother that died. I walked into the gym and was immediately welcomed and made part of the family. I had an assessment to find out where I needed to start and a program was individually developed for me. Things were scaled for my abilities. I have never felt like I couldn't keep up with others just encouraged to do my best. There is a great community of encouragement. This is a great place if you want to build strength and technique for weightlifting or to supplement Crossfit. Love my ASC family. read more
