Skamania Lodge Great Place - found this resort on a web search off the Columbia River. The lodge opened in 1993, overlooking the Columbia River Gorge & Cascade Mountains. Decorated with local artwork depicting Native American History of the Columbia River Gorge It's about 20 minutes from Portland airport, beautiful drive along the Columbia River that takes you past Multnomah Falls (a must-see attraction), crossing over the Bridge of Gods (I have no idea why they call it that) into Washington and then a super short drive to the resort. One Night Stay: Check in was a breeze, entering the Lodge foyer there's roaring fireplace (85 ft tall) surrounded by a laid-back sitting area with incredible views of the river. Our room was located on the second floor with a large window that gave us a gorgeous view of the Columbia River & the snow-covered Cascade mountains. We booked a king room - very clean and cozy. The room provides a coffee maker, safe, robes, slippers, frig and fireplace. Bed was super comfortable - very relaxing. The resort offers many amenities - Full Spa, Olympic sized heated indoor saltwater pool along with indoor and outdoor Hot Tubs, Sauna and Mens & woman Locker Rooms with private Hot Tubs. There are two restaurants on the property: River Rock (offering bar seating & dining room) we sat at the bar & had appetizers, Pork Belly Mac n' Cheese along with BBQ shrimp both dishes were amazing. The other restaurant is called the Cascade Dining Room: We had breakfast in the morning before leaving and it was very good. There is so much to do on the property offering Golf, Zip Line, Tennis, Basketball courts, Tree Top Obstacle Course, Walking and Hiking Trails, Axe Throwing. It's a great place for a family reunion with plenty to do or even a company retreat. We will return with the family for a reunion with all the kids.

5 stars!! I took my first golf lesson here and had Darron as our instructor. He explained everything we needed to know as beginners. My grandma and I had a wonderful time and learned a lot. By the end we were hitting great shots with the P wedge. When we went to do the 9 hole course later in the day, Darron was nice enough to escort us and take our picture at the first hole. He also checked on us at the end. Well worth the cost of the lesson and big kudos to Darron. We can't wait to try the 18 hole putting course next time,

Great view!!

I had a great time playing at Skamania Lodge. The course is very difficult you could be in for a long day if you don't keep it straight down the fairway. I would definitely think about leaving your driver at home for this course (I think I used mine 3 times the whole round). The course was in amazing shape I feel like every bad break I had I deserved. There are some amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge plus the layout of the course really helps you appreciate the true beauty of what the great northwest has to offer. This is the first 5 star rating I have given out to a golf course and the reason being is the friendly atmosphere and the outstanding staff in the pro shop who helped make my round possible. I will definitely be back to play again!

Girl golfer here...this would be a 3,5 star review, if I could give half stars…read more I first came to this course with my girlfriend my first year learning to golf (that was last year, y'all). It is not an easy course! Even my husband, who is an avid golfer says so. It is beautiful and despite what you might think, you won't get views of the Gorge here. But you will be ensconced in gorgeous Pacific Northwest trees and hills that will take your breath away. This is an 18-hole course and it appears that some holes share a green with other holes (though, I've only played 9, so I can't say for certain). The fairways are challenging, in that they'll take turns or be quite narrow, edged my foliage or marsh that makes finding a wayward ball challenging. (However, if you have a ball finder, you could come away ball-rich!) they also are dry and patchy, adding to the challenge of the course. The greens are especially challenging because they are not clean and smooth. There are different varieties of grass (weeds?) on them and patches of dry ground. The staff is friendly and the people who golf here are casual and very friendly as well! All in all, I recommend this challenging, beautiful course.

You got it understand it was made two weeks before tee time and now get darker by the minute .. so he made it right and I highly recommend this golf course it was fun to play and very impressive landscape..

This venue was the most spectacular venue I've ever been to for any wedding in my life and I'm old…read morelol. In July and August the bushes are spectacular. The bushes are hydrangeas and photograph fabulously and are overwhelmingly impressive to any guest that attends. Hoda and his wife are exquisite hosts and their catering services are fabulous and delicious. I would recommend this venue as the first to be reviewed if you're considering getting married. Mother of the bride review. Thank you !

BUYER BEWARE ! the negative comments here are true every word of it. Tristin B. (& others)…read morecomments on racial/prejudice it is true I sensed it the moment I met Hoda and it was a nightmare. Rebecca R. comments are accurate too. These owners are foreigners and there is a culture clash btw the value of american service/expectation and their racial and cultural prejudices and method of opperation. The venue is beautiful and historic hey you're in the NW nature beauty is everywhere take your pick. **Under no circumstances use Hoda's catering services portions and very small below industry size std. Quantity of food per person is very small altho you pd for a lavish feast. She and her team grab up the food quickly after being served and it disappears never to be seen again it's like she's rushing you out of the facility. I felt all food should have been left out and hors d'oeuvres relocated and left out for guest why they were taken to the kitchen and disappeared I have no idea. Even tho you have pd top dollar for the food you don't see it. From my research industry std price is $50-$150 per person Cape Horn is above $200/person and it's more like a small plate per person, the food is nothing special either and they don't want to box anything for you to take with you, you get push back when you ask. I felt it was frozen and heated and dressed. I wondered if it's being reserved or what's going on. At the tasting one thing was presented at the wedding it was a different thing served of lesser quality & very basic. No entre meats were ever given at tasting so you have no idea what's coming day of as a shock. There are no pictures shown of the food before you are served it beware! Hoda said tea/coffee/water and fruit is std with the menu when you pay suddenly it only comes with coffee only (tea is less than $5 for an entire wedding's need and why is self serve water not an option) the fruit didn't look that fresh and presentation was std they could have up the game for a wedding and added a fruit dressing. Food served will not make a full rounds around the table. It's served in small plates less than 4oz per person when according to my research std for catering is 4-8 oz which is about the size of a deck of cards or a woman's palm size. what you get is at best 2 oz. 1/2 the size recommended and quite thin. Plates served for approx 10 are small are really should be for 5 persons. I have noticed the entire summer to fall callendar is clear so that says that some how folks out there know the deal here STAY AWAY! There's a sign to the Kitchen that says "staff only" that tells me there have been probs before and other patrons have been asking what's going on with the food I pd for it's done a disappearing act. While what ever happened I can overlook or ignore shorting the food quantity and things surrounding the menu was totally unacceptable unnecessary as you are paying for a good menu and a very nice profit to Cape Horn no need to serve small plates for a extra high price. There's a mention that if you use Hoda's you get a discount that's a marketing gimick and never seen in any way. *something to bear in mind this is an inconvenience to guest to attend in Stevenson many people have to get 2 nites of hotel etc and live out a suitcase to attn your wedding. My suggestion is any name brand place in town the nines, ritz, Sheraton, marriott etc, Persimmon golf course etc with a name comes a certain surety. Cape Horn is not a functioning kitchen like other places that are 7 days a wk and that adds to issues. Most of all do some research and get yourself a good caterer with a good references. Day of assign someone to keep an eye of what's being done with food and what you'd like for pics your wedding coordinator is my suggestion think it thru a wedding has unexpected surprises as a host. You dont want the highlite of your wedding scammed away from you. My motive for posting here is so you are not scammed you pd big bucks with the intention of having a great time with your guest and a very nice menu that's not happening even tho you pd. You pay approx a month before the event and there is no incentive on the day of for the venue to deliver. Hope you wedding day is a dream and this helps you in some way. Weddings have a lot of opportunist in every industries along the way beware and be prepared. Good luck in the best way possible

The restaurant had a varied, mouthwatering menu and the service was excellent. The rooms had an old world feel to them, but were mostly refurbished and updated. What we loved most was the varied gallery of paintings on walls on each floor and the old-fashioned lever driven elevator that was run by the staff. The views and the grounds were exquisite with a waterfall cascading by a lookout. An unusual and historic landmark hotel that's definitely worth a visit.

On the one hand, the grounds are lovely, with some nice views of a waterfall cascading down to the Columbia River. The hotel has nice "bones" and the interior incorporates a lot of Art Deco touches, although we didn't agree with every design choice. There's a cool, old-fashioned hand-operated elevator that needs a staff member to operate. My biggest issue had to do with the cost of the room in late October given that the view of the river was very limited by small-ish windows and trees. Overall, just not worth the $325/night rate. The hotel appears to be a prime destination for weddings, which could be fantastic if the weather cooperates. It is located just west of small Hood River, which appears to lack much in the way of fine dining, but does have a number of boutiques, a great brewpub (Pfriem), and a great coffee/breakfast place (Kickstand). For us, given all of the other waterfalls along the Gorge, I think we would have been just fine with a less expensive, less notable hotel for the night.
