If I could give Europcar 0 stars I would. Absolutely the WORST experience I have ever had in any country and with any business ever! Firstly, we were rented a lemon vehicle that malfunctioned and wouldn't start after driving for 2.5 hours from Lyon to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains for vacation. This was 6:30pm on a Saturday. We had to wait over 5 hours for a tow truck to come to take away the vehicle (this, after my husband was on hold for an hour with Europcar, then was hung up on, he called back, was told to call the vehicle manufacturer because it is 'still under warranty', was then told the tow was canceled, then it would be rebooked, then he had to wait for a taxi). Finally, we arrived at our accommodation by taxi just before midnight on Saturday. We were told to call on Sunday morning for a replacement rental. Again, we called multiple times and spoke with multiple people - essentially wasted several hours of vacation only to ultimately be told that there were no rental cars available because it was as Sunday and everything is closed. So, we called Europcar customer service again at 8:30am on Monday morning - even though they were supposed to call us. We had to wait on hold, spoke with multiple people. One person said a replacement vehicle was available but they just had to confirm/would call us back - which they never did. So, we called again and were told no cars were available, but we looked online and saw that plenty of cars were available at the nearest Europcar location. So, we called them back with this information. Then, they said ok we are booking a car for you and will send a taxi to you now (this was at 11:00am). Of course, taxi doesn't show and it's been 1.5 hours waiting so we call back. Now, they are saying that it's lunch from 12-2, so they can't send anyone until after 2pm. I will be shocked if they actually follow through on delivering a vehicle, considering that every single person we've spoken to at Europcar has promised something different and given false promises that result in absolutely nothing. This review just touches the surface of the tremendous amount of gaslighting and absolute crap 'customer service' we have experienced. 2 entire days of our 5 day vacation ruined. We have spent approximately 5 hours on the phone from an American number calling internationally and will be receiving an exorbitant bill, which I'm sure Europcar will never pay - even though it is their problem we are in this mess in the first place! BEWARE of this company!! I will NEVER do business with them again and despite visiting France over 10+ separate times previously, the last 48 hours have been so absolutely horrid that (sadly!!) I have 0 desire to ever return to France again. read more
