Terrible rental experience. For any travelers used to reserving cars online or over the phone, their system does not match inventory, which means if they told you they had a certain car either by phone or online, they may or may not have it on the spot. We had our hotel call at 1pm to reserve, and Avis responded with a reservation number for a Mercedes for a 4 day rental. When we arrived at our time to pick up at 2pm, the lady at the rental counter said the car was never available. They proceeded to explain that the car we reserved got in an accident and was sent to repair that morning. Huh? What about our confirmation given at 1pm?
And they then discovered they had NO auto-shift available at the station. They proposed to bring in the only auto they had in the city from another station (station that was way closer to our hotel) to our location, and promised to do so within 30 minutes. The car didn't arrive for another two hours while we waited at a nearby Starbucks. When it eventually did arrive, they tried to charge us 700EUROs a day for it, what are we insane?
