On my last visit I got a balayage, toner, cut and style by the owner Malina who did such a phenomenal job on my hair that I can't stop staring at it 24/7. The ladies at Gamme understand what it takes to make a salon experience fantastic - they take their time to get it right and make sure your hair stays healthy after the treatments so you stay looking fabulous between appointments. I can't say enough good things about this place... It is run but an ambitious, dedicated, inspiring lady boss (Malina) who has a hardcore loyal clientele (no wonder!) and is in my opinion a visionary and avant-garde leader for the Montreal hair scene. Even wrote down the haircut I wanted in French so there would not be any communication issues. They ruined my hair with layers when I did not ask for it. Not only did they ruin my hair with choppy layers but also the customer service is terrible ! I couldn't stop crying after my haircut and first visit and the owner Sam reached out to me asking for me to go visit again. He wanted to "fix" my haircut and I went on the same day as I appreciated the gesture. There was NO APOLOGY whatsoever . I got soaked in the rain the second time I went (as it was raining) . Sam started lecturing me on the fact that I'm young, my hair will grow back etc . They did not even offer some hot water or anything. There are two owners . One is a woman and the other is a man named Sam. The woman gave me a haircut and she chopped everything off! I said I did not want conditioner and she kept saying I need it. Also, I didn't want layers she gave me layers. I wrote it down in French, exactly the haircut I wanted but she refused to read it. Sam refused to apologize for any of this- my discomfort, the time I spent visiting them the horrible haircut. According to him, it was not horrible. They said I was lucky to get to sit on their chair. I never met such arrogant and self obsessed hair dressers. Never visit them again. Avoid at all cost if you care about your hair. Now I have a choppy cheap chair it. Sam didn't have a curve scissors to adjust the layers. They are not well educated in the hair space at all. Worst haircut of my life. Took care of me with drinks (great Cappuccino)and by conversing like we have been friends forever. JP is a hair colorist; he was very understanding about my fear to change my natural hair color. He put me on ease; tried bunch of samples on my hair. It gets confusing, but he was super helpful. Trust me he did a fantastic job. He is a Superman for the hair. He can talk and feel the hair. He can work any texture of hair. And you ask how I know.... well he took care of three sisters's hair, and we all the girls have different type of hair, from frizzy, fine and wavy. He never goes drastic with me; he knows with my features what style would suit. He is an absolute creature. Beside JP, I love Ly too. Beside my sisters, few of my friends go to JP and Ly. It was my first time ever getting to enjoy a manicure spiff up while the dye was setting in my hair - so I ended up with both black hair and chic black nails. It was such an enjoyable glow up! My stylist was super sweet and gave me EXACTLY the hair colour and cut I wanted, which is, as many will know, not an easy thing to always achieve when you go to a new stylist. He listened carefully to everything I explained that I was looking for, and went out of his way to ensure that I got it! I even left with my specific dye recipe (which is kind of like a half-black, half dark brown mix) on a slip of paper, since he understood that I travel a lot and it would just make it so much easier to hand the recipe to my next stylist! I was so appreciative of that, because it's often hard to get a stylist to understand the kind of colour I'm looking for (surprisingly enough). Cut out the reddish, tone it down to a cool, deep, darkest brown bordering on black but not as unnatural looking as black. He nailed it. The next time I'm back in Montreal, this is where I will take myself immediately. The nail salon is next door, but they have a door between the hair salon and nail salon, so that your stylist can simply walk you through, with your towel on your head, sit you in a chair, and the manicurist knows exactly how much time there is to get your nails done before you have to go back over for your rinse. It's such a great working relationship. I was so happy with the manicure that I went back again for a redo a week and a half later! Fair warning, though - this salon IS in Westmount, the moneyed part of Montreal, so you will pay through the nose for your perfect salon experience. For me, it was worth it. A girl's gotta treat herself once in a while, and since I only typically hit a salon once every six months, I could justify it! Ha!

The hairdresser showed me pictures of layered styles and initially tried to change my mind, but I just wanted a straight cut. She said she could manage it. I was very tired that day and closed my eyes while she cut my hair. When she was finished, she said to me, "I've cut a few layers in," even though that was exactly what I didn't want. I don't feel comfortable with my current haircut because it's not what I'd agreed with her beforehand, which is why I'm only giving it one star.

And to top it off, a glass of champagne or a beverage of your choice to only make things better! Finally and most importantly, Benoit and Daniele did a beautiful job on our hair! They were both so diligent and skilled.
