On a recent visit to Montreal, my host recommended a brand new salon, Salon Sixhaut, that had just…read moreopened in the neighborhood. What a fabulous suggestion! Sixhaut is a smart, well designed salon in an interesting building. Owners Jordan and Jesse are professional, knowledgeable and truly experienced. My appointment with Jordan started with a frank discussion of my expectations, the level of my ability to work with my hair and Jordan's thoughts and vision about what looked best on me. His level of expertise was unparalleled as my cut was perfect! I've never felt so confident. My cut was stylish, relevant and it fit me to a "T. And thanks to Jordan's thoughtful discussion regarding my ability to work with the new style, my hair continues to look fresh. When I next return, I plan on Jordan doing my color. His own hair is an envious example of what mine could be. We discussed how I loved his gold tones. Amazingly, his vast industry knowledge informed me that Aveda clove shampoo would enhance and enrich the warm tones to give me the gold in the interim. Bravo Jordan, a truly exciting and comprehensive experience!

Was referred here by a friend. Asked for a very simple hairstyle that was wash and wear (I do not…read moreown a blow dryer and do not wish to get one) simple bob at shoulder length... left with an ear length chop job whose poor quality was hidden by a very proficient blowdry that hid the unevenness of the cut and the layering I SPECIFICALLY ASKED NOT TO HAVE. Extremely disappointed - worst haircut I have ever had, it would have looked better if I had done it on my own with a blindfold. I now have the choice of getting an even shorter cut or look like hell until it grows out - not a happy choice. I hate short hair. Forgot to add: the stylist I used here has been cutting hair for years... it was not a Jr. Stylists or newbie... completely disappointing that the first cuts were made in a way that there was no turning back from the length the stylist wanted to do rather than what I had requested. Didn't listen or didn't care... either way I spent a lot of money... for the original haircut and then at a different salon to correct the hatchet job... I didn't even have to tell the stylists at O in Olgivy's why I was there... they guessed immediately without being told that I was trying to repair a bad haircut... except that they could NOT believe I had paid for it at a professional salon.

Show up to the place and it's up these rickety, dark and narrow stairs. I walk into the salon and basically, well, it's a freaking disaster: the wood floors are cracked, missing pieces and slanted, the door was covered in mis-matched mauve flowery wallpaper, the makeup trays are dusty and covered in every liquid colour imaginable, the chairs and nothing matches and the lighting is horrible, oh, and the curtains? So awful: easter egg purple, yellow and what I assume used to be white? The owner though, she was quite kind and asked if I had clean hair to which I answered "um yeah, I guess?" and then she proceeded to spritz cold water on me and blow dry it. This all seemed quite unorthodox as I am used to a nice shampoo beforehand but I was in a hurry so didn't question it. The blow dryer itself was hotter than the surface of the sun and hurt my scalp and she pulled at my hair like some sort of dungeon master, but you know what? The blow dry ended up lasting for almost 3 days, pretty darn good. Throughout the appointment, various women came into the salon and interrupted my experience and they were pretty loud, but as the woman doing my hair kept commenting to them, I did literally just walk in off the street :P The website said that it was 25$, but I got the white girl special of 30$, oh well, still not too bad considering I was mostly happy with the result.
