I worked with Terry Cook- the head of the Sit Means Sit crew, with hopes of getting my two yellow labs under control. While one of them has always been pretty well behaved, however the younger one was a bolter (I chased him several times - and he's faster than me!). We rescued him, and I'm pretty sure he had run away from a previous home since he already knew sit, down, and crate when we got him. Let me first off express how impressed I was with Terry, his training system, his flexibility in scheduling, and his willingness to answer my questions any time. Between the two dogs, my husband, and myself - I know that I was the hardest one to train in the bunch. ;) Terry came to our home in Worthington and provided fantastic training to both my husband and I, as well as to the dogs. So why 5 stars? Because I can walk my dogs off leash. I can leave the gate open while I unload groceries from the car, and they stay. I can take them places and know that I don't have to worry about Rowdy running away. It has improved their quality of life. Since completing our training, we took them on vacation with friends to a cabin in Pennsylvania. Of the four dogs there, ours were the most obedient, best listening, and best behaved. Our friends were all jealous. At this point, we are able to attend group class whenever we want - and we do drop in from time to time since it's good continued practice for the dogs, and for us! The Sit Means Sit crew have all been an absolute pleasure to work with. On a different note, and on behalf of my friends at Sit Means Sit - I'd love to address Heather D.'s review with a little insight. The trainer that she worked with is no longer on staff. She clearly screwed up, and tried to hide her mistake. She never alerted the owner to the situation, because she was hiding her error. I'm very sorry that Heather had a poor experience, but would like to say that Sit Means Sit should not get a bad reputation due to a former employee who made mistakes. The company is solid, the current staff is fantastic, and the result is amazing. They do care about and value their customers: both human and canine alike. If you love your dog, and are considering doing some dog training to improve their behaviors, Call Sit Means Sit. The owner, Bill, is fantastic! He is patient and very hands on. We adopted our puppy at 4 months old and started with him when she was about 6 months old. She is now almost 2 and we have been working with him the entire time. We get constant compliments when walking her about how well trained she is. My dog boarded here last week with a scheduled pickup for Saturday, and a drop off at our home for the following Saturday. We wanted the drop off Saturday morning, but were told we would need to wait until Saturday night when one of the trainers who could drop him off on her way home from work. Even though we were paying an extra $50 for the transportation service, we didn't want to make anyone have to make an extra trip so we agreed. Unfortunately for my family and my dog, they did not bring him home Saturday night. After numerous unanswered phone calls, I left a private message on the facebook page and finally received a phone call from Kim Sunday evening. I told her we would like our dog returned as soon as possible. She then called me back and informed me that my dog was not scheduled for drop off until the following Thursday; and insinuated this was an error on my part. I readily admit that I am not perfect, but there is no way I would have scheduled a 13 day stay for my dog when I was taking a 7 day trip. Kim dropped my dog off at almost 9pm on Sunday night, exactly 24 hours later than scheduled. She gave me an obviously insincere apology and told me the kennel decided not to charge me for the extra night my dog was with them, and would only need to pay for the 7 nights plus $50 transportation fee. This is the exact service I had scheduled, but had not received. It certainly was not my choice for our dog to stay the extra night! I told her I was surprised they weren't going to offer more consideration regarding the bill. She immediately got defensive and reminded me that she had to drive all the way to my home to drop off my dog; and that it was up to Terry, the owner at Sit Means Sit to offer any kind of discount. I gave her the full amount due, but said that although I was paying her, I wanted to make it perfectly clear that I was unhappy about it. She said she would mention it to the owner. Apparently the owner doesn't care about customer satisfaction because no one has contacted me. Sit Means Sit made a mistake in their scheduling which caused a lot of tears for my 3 children, and stress for my husband and I. Considering I sent my dog through their training course and had him board with them for about a week on four separate occasions over the past 3 years, I hoped I would at the very least be worthy of a sincere apology. It seems obvious to me that Sit Means Sit does not value their customers and I would suggest extreme caution if you are considering doing business with this company! read more

I have a young Labrador retriever who was very headstrong. Three obedience schools, training collars (chain and prong) gentle leaders, harnesses; tried them all. Another friend recommended Sit Means Sit. Terry came and in one lesson my dog was walking nicely. The trainer assigned to us, Abraham, was prompt and helpful. In three lessons we were ready to walk. Owners do have to work and follow through, but the methods I was taught helped me turn an unruly dog into a happy pleasant travel companion. read more

Numerous emails to several people and crickets. I love the program and appreciate the advice we received from Terry AND just want to continue without paying our lifetime class fee again. We paid in full, as required, and set up the follow-up appointment. They had to cancel because the trainer was not able to come. We then set up another appointment, and once again they had to cancel because the trainer we were assigned had left. At this point, we attempted to reschedule, but they couldn't fit us in for over a month. After the hassle, we just asked for our money back. Terry, the owner, refused and became hostile. We even said we'd pay for the collar, since it had already been cut to fit our dog's neck, and he said no. Not only did we not receive a refund, but when we were on the phone with Terry, he hung up on us several times, stating he would no longer talk to us. We took our dog to National K-9 instead and they were VERY nice and helpful. They even provide a new collar, at no charge, if your dog grows out of his. read more

So far we have had 3 sessions with Terry. The improvement in our Bull Terrier is remarkable. We have had many dogs over the years but none as fearful as this one. We did not know how to remedy the situation. Most of the problem , of course, is the owner. Terry has been very patiently explaining what we were doing that was not really helping the dog. He explained and demonstrated the correct technique to help us get through the fearfulness. We still have a few more sessions to go but we are making good progress. Terry's visits help keep us on track with our practice. This program is making our lives and the dog's life a lot more enjoyable. read more

The puppy I worked on having trained is a mixed breed hound; she is a Plott hound, Walker Treeing Coonhound mix. When Terry first came to my house Libby was eight-weeks old. Libby was attacking the cat, chewing on me, my husband, and son and about anything else she could get her teeth into. At the end of the first visit I was given the tools to work with to get Libby to stop attacking the cat and to stop chewing on people. We have completed 4 puppy classes and 3 classes with the training color. Libby knows all of her commands (off, sit, down, come, place, and walk) and she walks beautifully on and off leash. I routinely get compliments on how well behaved she is when I take her to the park. If you want a well-mannered dog. Give Sit Means Sit a call. However, you have to realize, YOU have to put in time and work with your dog. You spend the most time with your pet.
