My 6-year-old cairn terrier needs to be sedated during vet visits. Dr. Nicol and Erin the Vet tech took excellent care of him. Their amazing acts of kindness included providing a soft mat and blanket for Fitz to lay on rather than placing him on the metal exam table. Then both Dr. Nicol and Erin got on the floor with Fitz to perform annual exam procedures and toenail clipping. Dr. Nicole and Erin took his comfort into consideration at the expense of their own. I cannot recommend emphatically enough this vet hospital, Dr. Erica Honerkamp, and her sweet cat tech whose name I sadly can't remember at this time. We called last night near closing hours and were promptly appointed this morning. Upon checking in, we were promptly taken back to be seen. Dr. Honerkamp's assistant took a great history and handled my stranger-averse Trixie beautifully! Dr. Honerkamp immediately got to the root of my concern and worked smoothly with her assistant to thoroughly examine and evaluate Trixie with no trauma to her. They promptly took bloodwork and a urine sample and quickly came back with a provisional diagnosis. We were reappointed for tomorrow for follow-up once the bloodwork has returned, but Dr. H spent extra time educating me today in case she is unavailable tomorrow. Dr. Honerkamp and her assistant are both incredibly competent and personable--with both Trixie and her human! I am so happy and reassured that they are in charge of her care. Also, the facilities are absolutely beautiful and incredibly clean. I loved that they utilize a local company for the soap in their restrooms as well. Some vets good, some not so much. Not always easy to get a real person when calling in. Have to leave a message about 50% of the time in my experience. Expensive to buy meds there. No longer offer grooming services and used to take my dogs there. Pretty good about not making people wait too long past appointment time. read more

Our vet visit with Dr. Honerkamp and the vet Tech Savannah went so well! I was not expecting it to go how smooth as it did. Our dog Kato has horrible vet anxiety and I was having anxiety knowing this visit might not go too well, but Savannah and Dr. Honerkamp were so compassionate and understanding about everything!! A quick search of his name after a recent visit yielded numerous reviews that mirror this one. Whew! I had to calm down before I started writing this review because the customer service at this vet clinic was so horrible I nearly blew a gasket. I had a noon appointment for two simple nail trims for my two pups. Got there early, texted them at the number to let them know I was there...no response. 15 minutes later, texted them again...no response. I ended up texting them a total of 5 times. Nothing. Nada. Meanwhile, employees are coming and going, bringing out pets to their owners waiting in their cars while I'm patiently sitting there listening to an audiobook. Finally, after almost an hour, I was the only car in the parking lot and still no one had come out to get my pups. So I called. No answer. I called again, got a voicemail. At this point, I'm like eff this and I head home, but on the way home, I decided to call back for kicks and giggles to see if anyone would actually answer...someone did. And boy did I give them an earl full about their piss poor customer service. Rather than try to make it right, the person who answered the phone made excuses- told me I texted the wrong number, to which I advised that was the number listed on the sign, and I called them directly from the parking lot...twice. Then she said they were understaffed. Really?! We're in the middle of a friggin' pandemic in February--everyone is understaffed! The bottom line is that they saw me in the parking lot, I had been there for 50 minutes, they didn't pick up the phone and they wasted my day. They could have made it right, but they didn't. And for the record, I used to bring my dogs there for full medical care but switched veterinary clinics after I brought my dog there for a suspected UTI and twice this clinic said nothing was wrong, so I got a second opinion and they found blood in her urine. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra 15 minutes to VCA Sawmill. It's not worth it to take your furry family members to Beechwold Vet Clinic for subpar care and terrible customer service. read more

Most recent experience with Erik Weisgerber was not good, my shih tzu was startled when he stuck his fingers in her mouth after her mouth surgery, and she bit him. I tried to make a follow up appointment and Erik thought he might not be very effective because she would not let him in her mouth. First time I've had a vet say they could not deal with a shih tzu. They are pretty ferocious, and their jaws are so strong. Am I missing something here? I had been a BVH client for several decades, several dogs, but they became too hard to get in with, and I no longer felt confident in Erik's work so I just found another place closer to me. There were other docs I did think highly of (Dr Nicol) but there was always going to be the concern that I might need to have my pet treated with Erik and I just wasn't on board for that. FYI the surgery performed by Erik had to be redone, costing another 3K, when the new vet saw her. Since I do not know if the surgery would have been repeated anyway, I can't say that the first surgery failed but it sure didn't seem successful to me. read more

For anyone considering Beechwold Veterinary Hospital, and specifically Dr. Erik Weisgerber, they should read this review and consider carefully whether to move forward. In December of 2021, Dr. Erik saw my cat twice due to having stopped eating, throwing up and being lethargic, during which time he gave her minimal care including only one exam and fluids, and sent her home without any explanation of what could have occurred. On the second day, he failed to return my call until close of business when he said no one could help my cat overnight and I would just have to wait until the next day. On the third day he gave her fluids and then he sent her home because he saw her walk towards the water bowl one-time. The moment she returned home from Dr. Erik's care, my previously health 2-year old cat could barely move. She was rushed to MedVet where they found her in critical condition and struggled to stabilize her despite me telling them at that moment money was no question and they could do whatever it would take. Ultimately, they determined the fluids caused her to go into heart failure. Additionally, both her kidneys and liver appeared to be failing and thus medicine for her heart failure could not be used. Ultimately, she had to be put to sleep just a few hours after leaving Dr. Erik's care. Although her records were immediately sent to Beechwold, Dr. Erik did not contact me to offer condolances. Instead, four days later and after I had to call him twice, he finally returned my call. As if this horrible tragedy was not enough, Dr. Erik was defensive, unprofessional, rude, and frankly aggressive on the phone with me when I simply asked what he believed had occurred. When I asked about the $900 bill and whether any of this money could be refunded due to the tragedy. He told me I could sue him. I told him I apologized if my question implied that I was considering legal action and again just calmly asked whether there was any financial assistance when the fluids given y Dr. Erik lead to my 2-year-old cats death. Again, he told me to sue him or file a complaint with the medical board. This highly defensive answer is telling. I would highly suggest no one take their animals to Dr. Erik. read more

I am writing this review to warn people to stay away from Dr Weisgerber at Beechwold. My daughter and I took her cat there, a previously healthy 2 year old cat, for treatment due to vomiting and lethargy. He gave her the minimum amount of treatment he could, and over the course of several days, she got worse. He still sent her home, after giving her fluids all day, which in turn caused her to have congestive heart failure. We lost her that night at Medvet. We are devastated. When we asked him to help explain what happened he was rude, dismissive and almost combative. I am shocked and saddened. I expected better from a place I have taken many pets to for many years. read more

When I came in suspecting hair loss due to overdosing of flea meds-they insisted I spend all this money on unneeded tests. They did not even hear me out it consider the possibility it was due to this. I took my dog back to her prior vet-which is further away. It was confirmed that this was the issue after I spent $100's on unneeded tests at Beechwold. Further, they have a problem with rude staff answering the phones. We had been going to Beechwold for 2 1/2 years before a very unacceptable experience occurred. I want to start by saying I loved Dr Yaisle and the attention she gave our bulldog who has epilepsy. There were multiple nights that she would call me after a long day which I appreciated very much! As stated my dog has epilepsy so when it was time to go on vacation we didn't think about taking him anywhere else but Beechwold while we were gone. You can see from the pictures that Beechwold stayed that they offer around the clock care (this has since been removed from their website because they know they were wrong but didn't want to admit it) while I was out of the country my mother got a phone call saying Mattis had been having seizures and they thought it was best for her to pick him up and take him to medvet so he could be under 24/7 supervision. My mother was confused because she thought that's why he was at Beechwold. The Dr explained to my mother that while there was a camera on his crate people need to sleep so if he had a seizure it would not wake someone up. I don't understand how you can call that around the clock care when it's clearly not. What is most upsetting to me is not 1 person has called to ask how Mattis is doing and it's been 16 days since we've been home! read more

This hospital has supported me emotionally through their kindness during losses of dearly loved pets. Having read other reviews from people who were less than pleased, I feel that some reviews were wholly unjust and baseless or at best, petty and mean spirited. When a veterinarian calls me on their personal cell phone at a late hour to express their regrets for the loss of my 16 year old Doberman, they have gone above and beyond their duty. When Dr. Thomas, who loved and cared for my gentle Doberman for twelve years had to euthanize him, she was crying with me over my loss during euthanasia due to bone cancer. Our dog injured her leg on a walk so we called to schedule a vet visit for her to be seen. We showed up on time with our dog medicated ( as she can be anxious without it if ). Then we waited 25 min in the waiting room only to THEN have a tech come tell us that they have no appt for us! We had checked in 25 min earlier! Why didn't they tell us this when we checked in? Why did we drug our dog and sit there almost half an hour to be told "we are so sorry but we only scheduled you a tech appt". Why the heck would we want a tech appt when our dog is injured? They made no effort to squeeze us in anyway or correct THEIR mistake and see our dog. They said we could keep waiting in the lobby indefinitely in case they could see us at some point. We have used this practice for the past 20+ years, and this is the worst care we have ever had (or not had in this case). Terrible terrible patient care and customer service. No attempt whatsoever to correct their mistake and have our dog seen. Now our dog waits over a long weekend for no good reason. And she was sedated for no good reason and her leg never even looked at. read more

Luckily, I moved of state and will never go back here. But if I did I would ONLY go to Dr. Mark or Dr. Nicole. But I was thinking about this place compared to the place I go now and I got mad again. Therefore, I feel compelled to write this. So my cat got her rabies shot. Afterwards, she stopped eating her food and puked around 20 + times over the course of 24 hours. She was refusing to eat. I took her to the vet, of course, and did $500 worth of testing. Nothing showed up. I mentioned that I thought it was her rabies shot, since that was the only variable that occurred. To which the vet I saw at this time said, "I didn't think about that - it could be." At this point I was actually very pleased because he seemed to really care and even called me to check on my cat a few days later. After discussing with multiple different vets, they all agreed her reaction could have been from the rabies vaccine and advised not to give it to her since she is a strictly indoors cat. So, of course, since she was not herself for actual months after that, I totally felt like it would be in her best interest not to give her the rabies shot again. So when I went to take her in the year later and told the same vet I saw at the time I am opting out of the rabies vaccine, the vet got very rude towards me, telling me that she had puked that many times because anxiety since she has a history of puking (but this is ONLY after she eats her food too fast - NEVER puking up bile for 24 hours straight and feeling so sick she just let me hold her all night long and refusing to eat and not being herself for months). He basically dismissed all my concerns in a very rude manner and said he's not able to treat her if she doesn't have her rabies shot. Now, I understand needing to keep the staff safe. I probably wouldn't have even been mad if he tried to understand where I was coming from and addressed my concerns from a place of empathy. But I'm here to advocate for MY cat at the place who is supposed to care about her health. I know her way better than anybody else ever could. And over my dead body would I ever do anything to her I knew going into the situation would harm her. Even if it wasn't from the vaccine, I am not here to play around with my cats health and spend hundreds of dollars again afterwards. He also made the rude comment that "I won't make you give this cat her vaccine but the other cat has to". I'm not an antivaxxer and never said anything about not giving it to my other cat. I had no problem with it since she has never had a reaction. Anyways, now my cat and I go to a better vet and when I explained the situation to him he said that it's my choice but it's on me (and I now live in a state that take these shots a LOT more seriously than OH). He was very respectful and handled the situation amazingly and told me how they use the safest kind. It made me feel a lot more comfortable knowing that he cared about my cats health and respected my decisions to do the best thing for my cat. My puppy has had quite the slew of issues since I got him at 3 months until now at 2 years old but during this time all our visits to Beechwold Vet have been great. We've made a cycle through most of the vets at the hospital during our various visits and they've all been great and very patient with my dog and me. They've been able to help pinpoint the cause of his symptoms ever time and have helped remedy them or ease the symptoms until he recovered. Be warned. Horrible service. My fiancé and 11 month child were forced to wait outside for 30 minutes for a standard nail trim. They arrived and were told they needed masks, but the vet was completely out of masks to provide, so they were forced to stand outside. They ended up leaving and not getting our dogs nails trimmed. Who would force a mother and young child to wait outside in the cold? Absolutely ridiculous. Fair to say we will not be returning. read more

I work in the health care system. I know that our patients and clients are our top priority. Beechwold Veterinary Hospital does NOT share this value. My pet started acting very odd and I was naturally concerned about her. She had been throwing up and then started to act as if she was choking. Her behavior wasn't normal. She was crying and seemed very scared. I took a video of the way she was acting to show the vet. When I called I was told that throwing up is normal for puppies and there was nothing they could do for me until the next day. I understood that they may not have an opening that day, but I asked if they could at least view my video to inform me if it was something I needed to take my puppy to the emergency vet for. They denied to even look at my video. A few minutes after getting off the phone my puppy went completely limp and was unresponsive. I rushed her to an emergency vet who was willing to watch the videos. They were able to identify that she was in fact choking. If I would have waited until the next day like Beechwold Veterinary Hospital told me to my ESA animal would be dead. It is unacceptable for a veterinary hospital to not listen to the client and respect the family when they feel something is wrong. That is the first thing we are taught in the health care system to listen to the family. At Beechwold Veterinary Hospital their patients are NOT their top priority. In addition to this incident, there are multiple other aspects about this veterinary hospital that is not acceptable. The last visit we were at I wanted to schedule my puppies next visit but I was hung up on. When I call the line is always busy and I can't even get through. I have tried for over a week trying to make an appointment for my pet, but I am unable to even get through. I went to their website and everything is out of date. I emailed to make an appointment and have still never heard back from them. read more

After having a bad experience with the OSU vet, I decided to find a new vet. I heard pretty good things about Beechwold, so decided to give it a try. My dog has had nothing but good experiences. He is very weary of other dogs ever since once bit me, so they have always been super accommodating with getting Max in with an early appointment before it gets busy. Dr. Nicol is so sweet with him...she is very soft spoken and loving. Max hates going to the vet, but Dr. Nicol really puts him at ease. Not inexpensive, but when it comes to my dog, quite frankly I'll pay anything to have him healthy. My roommate's dog sees Dr. French, and she also has nothing but great things to say about her :) read more

When I first started going here, the service was great. Yes, they are pricey but I was willing to pay for what seemed like expert care. Lately, it feels like the service is hit or miss. Granted my dog has a chronic illness and we go 4-5 times a year; so we see a lot of their vet techs. Tonight I raced home to get her there before they closed only to be sent away with a pending lab test and no temporary meds. The last doctor she saw had already left for the day (um - why stay open to 630 pm if there aren't any doctors to write scripts?). The vet tech was rude and uncaring. When my dog's illness flares up, I can't wait 3-4 days for an appointment to see the doctor. It also peeves me that we both know what it is that she has and when it flares - it's happened enough for us to know for sure. Why do I continue to pay for lab tests to only tell me what I already know. Sorry to say that I will be looking for new vet and will start over with her care. read more

Love this practice. Have used them for my last three dogs and always had a good experience. They are always caring about your concerns and any needs that your pet may have. Always take their time and take extra time with the dog that's nervous . Very rarely have to wait long. And when we do we always know it's because there's an emergency. I've known Dr Weisgerber for years now and he is always friendly and takes time to ask how family is doing and I never feel like I am rushed though. I came to Beechwold a year and a half ago after a less than stellar experience at my last vet. I have a Rottweiler who absolutely loves people. Among other things, my last vet's office couldn't seem to see past her breed and always acted timid around her. Not so with Dr. French and the friendly vet techs at Beechwold. When I walk in, there is always someone there to help me right away. There's barely a wait before you're placed in a room. On the one occasion there was a wait, the staff checked in with me to make sure I was comfortable and to give my dog some extra attention. Also, Dr. French actually remembers my dog (beyond the info normally kept in a chart). She is very thoughtful about what to prescribe and always keeps costs in mind. She is open to learning about things I've seen on the internet and follows up with me about it. If I have questions or issues that come up between visits she personally returns my call instead of communicating through a vet tech. Also, Beechwold has a great website that keeps me up to date on my dog's health needs. The one negative comment I have is that when I needed to see a different vet because Dr. French was unavailable, I felt that the vet was not sure of herself. Dr. Schuab saw my dog after a leg injury. She came across as less friendly and barely paid any attention to my dog beyond the professional examination. Moreover she restrained my dog to do her examination causing my dog to get scared and resist the exam which then required her to be sedated. I certainly understand restraining a Rottweiler if necessary, but when a surgical vet later conducted the same exam during the surgical consult, he did not restrain her or sedate her and the exam went smoothly. Ultimately Dr. Schuab was competent and her diagnosis was correct so the five star rating stands, but I simply prefer Dr. French's friendly and confident demeanor. read more

When I read some of the reviews given to Beechwold, I cannot believe it! I have taken the dogs I have owned to Beechwold for ~35 years. In all that time I have never been treated in a rude manner by a single staff member, I have never waited an hour past my appointment time. and I have never been placed on hold for extended periods of time. No mistakes have ever been made with my dogs' medications, no Vet has failed to call me with information, and although the cost for treatment has increased over the years, what hasn't'? I have seen Vets at Beechwold completely line out their fees for costly procedures and I have seen tears in their eyes when a dog had to be euthanized. Today I took my new puppy to her first Vet exam and I took her to Beechwold. I love her too much to take her anywhere else read more

If I could give zero stars I would, but yelp makes me give a minimum of one. When we first started coming, we were willing to pay the prices for good care. The doctor was great, thorough and knowledgeable. Then today happened. Our puppy has an awful looking eye infection. I called a few days ago to get her in and the soonest they could get us in knowing her symptoms was today. The weather was bad and we were running late for our appointment. We called to give a heads up and they told us they had a 10 minute late policy. We rushed and arrived at 12:11. Walked in the door at 12:12. They REFUSED to see our dog. Her eye is swollen, red, and leaking. They told me to put warm compresses on my 6 month old labs eye (because anyone with a lab knows how still they'll sit for a nice warm compress) and wait until they can see her. Of course they had no appointments today and rescheduled us for tomorrow. I never write reviews. I think it takes too much of my time to sit down and get mad. But, I care about my dog a heck of a lot and to know that if I would have walked in the door 120 seconds sooner she would have been seen, but since I was 120 seconds late she will spend another day with this awful eye infection. I adhere to policy, and if I showed up 30 min late I get it. But, I am always on time for appointments and I always sit for 5-10 minutes before someone actually sees me. We faxed our records to a new vet who laughed at the ten minute policy. If a dog needs to be seen then they make it work even if it means I need to wait longer because I am late. Don't waste your time on a vet that is smart, knowledgeable and friendly when you won't receive any of that if you are a minute late. It isn't worth it. Plenty of smart vets in the area that understand life happens and cares enough to see your animal. read more

Had an urgent care emergency appointment for my 10 year old cat who wasn't eating food or drinking water and hiding Saturday November 12. Was worked in; 2 veterinarians on duty that day: Dr. Sweazy and Dr. Gonzales. Vet Tech came right out for my Boy to check his bladder and did an ultrasound and sent out another vet tech to bring me to the room where my Peake was. Another vet tech took Peake to get an urine sample and when she bought him back said results would be ready soon and Dr. Gonzales would be in to talk to me. 10 minutes later, Dr. Gonzales came in (she had already looked Peake over and said everything looked fine except the urinalysis showed bacteria and inflammation and she gave Peake an antibiotic shot ( lasts 2 weeks) and gave him a treat to see if he would eat and he did! She sent us home with some canned food he might eat along with pain medication. Everyone was so kind and caring to my sweet and handsome Peake: from the time we arrived until the time we left was only 1 hour!! read more

The doctors are great but the front desk staff leaves a lot to be desired. First of all, they answer the phone "Beechwold vet, can you hold please". I have been bringing my dog here for 5 years, and never once gotten to speak to someone right away and hold times range from 5-10 minutes. Before the lobby closed for COVID, there was always a line of people congregating at the front desk to check in or out. Sometimes we would wait 5-10 minutes to pay/check out after seeing the vet. This creates a stressful situation for dogs, like mine, who don't love other dogs in their space. There are owners with extendable leashes letting their dogs wander and pets standing too close together waiting in line, I honestly like the system better now where you just wait in the car! Took our Emmie, my 2 1/2 year old dog rescue, to Dr. Honerkamp for evaluation of a wound on the inside of Emmie's rear hind leg. It appeared out of nowhere, with no history of trauma. We were concerned it could be something serious (eg. bone tumor) so was anxious to get Emmie in to be evaluated. Dr. Honerkamp saw her within a day. Upon examination, Dr. Honerkamp felt the wound was a histiocarcoma, a benign (harmless) lesion treatable with antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. Dr. Honerkamp did a great job explaining what the wound was, why it didn't look like something more severe, how to treat it and, probably most importantly, what to watch for if it turned out to be something requiring more attention. She took her time examining Emmie beyond the reason for the visit and even counseled us on ways to cure Emmie of her reluctance to have her teeth/mouth examined.
