I went to Care Pet for years. love Dr Bear, not so much for the stand in vet or negative check out lady. They took test that were not authorized or asked for. Had to leave. The smell was the last straw.I appreciate the response of the Clinic staff although it does not seem things have progressed. I left the clinic Three years ago. Dr. Daniel Beer is an exceptional vet and absolutely recommend Care Pet Clinic. Located in Olde Towne East (on East Main Street), they service Columbus and the surrounding areas. I am so lucky to have them less than a half mile away but would drive over an hour to come hear if needed without a doubt. I have been going to Care Pet Clinic since roughly 2003 or 2004 and between my partner and I they have taken care of three of our pets over the years (cats & dogs for us). This visit was Ellie's annual check up and labs, so a routine visit for our little beagle mix. Well not some much little since we got her weight but no judgment and we will blame it on her precious face, her daddies and Covid weight. This was a nice and easy visit and it is amazing to watch Dr. Beer work and handle her through the examinations and vaccinations. It was almost effortless and wish such care and our pet has quite the personality. Parking off the side and a few spots by the entrance. There is a large waiting room in case you need to space out and keep some distance. I highly recommend Care Pet Clinic and they take such good care of your pets. Our cat was loosing weight and peeing all over the place. We brought him in and they diagnosed him with hyperthyroidism. After two months of medication, he's gained almost a pound and has only had 1 or two accidents! I think the prices are fair and the facility is decent! I will say that no one says hello when you enter, which can be off-putting... BUT there is usually only one lady answering a phone that never stops ringing, checking people in, filing paperwork and cashing people out. So I get it! A hello would be nice, but having my pets health improve is the main reason I'm there! read more

Prices here seem to change depending on who answers the phone and what mood they're in that day. It's like spinning a wheel of fortune--'What will we charge you today?' You could walk in, have absolutely nothing done, and somehow still leave $150 lighter. My personal favorite? They claim they drew blood when I was just there for a dental exam. I guess they're now vampires? I miss the good old days when this place had a giant hole in the ceiling that dripped water. At least then, they remembered their roots. Now, they've apparently patched up the hole and their memories of decent customer service and fair prices at the same time. This place is a rip-off...I have been bringing my puppy since I got her in June 2024.. 1st couple of visits were ok with the female Vet..Today really pissed me off... .Of course, she gets her shots.. Then the male doctor..Dr Beer) whom I had never seen before today, suggested heartworm pills.. I asked how much are they he said about $4.00 a pill.. He suggested I do about 3 or 4 pills to start her off. I said ok... Get to the front to pay and find out they charged me $52.00 for 4 pills.. Called the front desk to inquire about the charges and was told oh they cost $13.00 a pill...On top of that our last visit Bella had a Ear Infection/ yeah ok..paid for medication for that. He did not recheck her ears...I guess an examination means getting her weight and listening to her breathing.. The female vet checked her out all over...Ears..mouth..butt..paws etc... Today,... $167 ....I wasn't told I would be charged for pain meds..Rabies tag insurance fee...and he clearly lied to me about the cost of the heart gard tablets... I will never go back and I suggest you don't either. $25 for an office call!!!!..$25 for an examination... I knew I would have to pay for the vaccination. Almost $200 is ridiculous...just noticed they have the wrong BREED! On her paperwork. .....I'm convinced most of them are money hungry. Take you pet elsewhere..... read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Just don't do it. Cheaper prices does not always mean good service for your pets. The older lady at the front desk is not very friendly. She is very dry when you call in. They are not thorough they just assume things and prescribe drugs. My dog started having focal seizures a few years back and if i didn't have video to show them video they would have just tied it to him having stomach issues. For years I've been using this vet for years, and have referred many people to them as well, because I thought they cared about the pets and owners. Just yesterday i tried to get my dog's maintenence medication filled at another pharmacy because Apoquel is super expensive and I found it at a much more affordable price elsewhere. I was then informed by this office that i would have to pay them $25 to allow me to do so. That's AWFUL!!! NO OTHER VET DOES THAT!!! Shame on you Care Pet. Took our dog for his annual shots. Able to schedule an appointment within a few days. In and out in less than an hour. Dr Beer was personable and knowledgeable. Costs were cheaper than Banfield (Pet Smart Vet) or German Village Vet. Dr Beer treats the pet in front of you. Care Pet Clinic does require a $60 deposit (via credit card) to hold your appointment. Also Care Pet Clinic charges a $25 fee for a prescription not filled at at CPC. Overall good experience will use them in the future. read more

It has been really difficult to find a caring, affordable, and convenient vet out here since moving from New Jersey. Recently, I had to take my pup here because she was under the weather. I was really happy with this choice. The building is very unassuming from the outside, but upon entrance, I was greeted by friendly staff and an inviting atmosphere. We were quickly seen by Dr. Beer who seems to genuinely care for his pet friends. The visit, examination, shot of antibiotics and steroids, and two prescriptions was $86 total. That is unheard of. The next day, the vet personally called to check on my fur baby. I thought that this was a nice touch. He also mentioned dental to me and I thought by comparison, the prices were incredibly fair. read more

Their knowledge bases are infinite, they are always honest in their recommendations and opinions, they won't charge you for things you don't need, and they're happy to explain why you need what you are going to be paying for. You'll leave every time feeling better about the health of your pet(s), more knowledgeable about how to help them to feel better, and less broke than if you went elsewhere. The worst part about this place is that you'll want to stay all day and chat with the staff since they're all super nice and very kind. It's tough but necessary to remember that they are working and can't just hang out with you, even though you'll wish they could! read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. Do not bring your cats here. I brought my 3 year old cat, Basil, in. She is 9 lbs. She had a little infection on her paw. The first, and only, recommendation that dr. beer gave me was to get her declawed.... Excuse me? Any competent vet or animal professional in the United States will know that declawing cats is inhumane, cruel, and not necessary. He then went on to call her old and fat, which is simply not true. Additionally, my boyfriend USED TO bring his dog here for treatment. Time and time again, Dr. Beer was patronizing, rude, and gave us inaccurate information. Their office staff will often give you misleading or confusing information, and forget to mention important details. We were often promised phone call followups regarding her medication, which never happened. Dr. Beer is the most patronizing and condescending vet I have ever encountered. Been going here for YEARS. The price is nice, the care is great, and Dr. Beer is an honest guy who wont pressure or guilt you into procedures you cannot afford. While the quality of care has always been good, I am mostly impressed by the understanding that not everybody has the cash to get the latest and greatest thing done. Knowing that, alternatives are suggested that will do the job without breaking the bank. Saved my butt back in my broke college days without making me feel like I didn't deserve pets. I take all my animals here but the rabbits (he doesn't see rabbits), from standard check ups to minor surgery. Figured out my cat wasnt sick but that it was stress inflaming her bladder- calming pills and steroids-to allergy shots for my dog (who will rip herself open in leaf mold season), to fixing my border collie's broken tooth- while cleaning the rest of her pearly whites. When I adopted my dog, I went to this vet to give him a preliminary check up because it was close to my apartment. From the outside I was a little unsure, but the quality of service and expertise at this vet is amazing and I have continued to go here. my dog stopped eating and was only drinking water and was having accidents. I took him here and they didn't even exam him they just listened to his stomach and wanted an X-ray of his stomach. they did x ray and said they saw a shadow by his kidney and heart and showed me where his stomach was empty but it wasn't his stomach they showed me it was his bladder and that had me questioning things. they say he needed kidney support twice a day I started that and a week later my dog got worse. I ended up going to get a second opinion from another vet and they felt swollen lymph nodes all over my dogs body that this vet didn't even exam to see. Come to find out my dog had stage 4 cancer and I had to put him down today. this clinic is just for money only they don't care about your dog at all. they talk crap about pitbulls and other dogs whole people are in there and are a piece of shit and needs to be shut down! read more

I can't believe that a clinic like this exists. I actually travel from outside of Columbus to use this clinic. Professional and affordable. Clearly a thriving practice, it is staffed with patient, kind folks who really do have the pet's best interests at heart. Dr. Beer is simply one of the best vets I have ever taken my pets too. He truly cares about the animals and his kindness, even when fishing them out from hiding places in the exam room, is remarkable. He's got a great staff, which speaks well of his leadership, and a lot of them have been with him a long time. He is extraordinarily competent (keeps on top of new stuff) and thorough and will not short change anyone in the exam room. I know a lot of folks get weird about getting blood work done but it's so important, especially for an older pet. He's waaaay cheaper on blood work than any other vet I've ever used and the results come back a lot quicker as well. It's not an upsell and it's not a rip-off. Just get the damn blood work if he says you need it. They are dealing beautifully with the demands of keeping everyone safe during the Covid mess. So grateful to have Care Pet for my vet. read more

I recently adopted a new Golden Retriever and have moved to the Olde Towne East area a couple of years ago. My former Vet was too far away so I was looking for one closer to my home. I found this place on Yelp and after reading the reviews, decided to try it out. I ended up going to the open house on Saturday morning from 8:30am-12 noon and I wish I had just paid the additional fee to make an office appointment. It was chaos on Saturday with a bunch of people, long lines tons of dogs barking. As I had just gotten my golden, he was obviously not used to being around so many other dogs and was terrified. Pros: The cost was relatively inexpensive - paid something like $40 for rabies and heart worm and got a physcial exam. I was the second person on the list when they opened at 8:30 and I was getting in the car to leave at 9:40am. Staff was super friendly - I never saw or met the Veterinarian - just the assistants. Con: As another post mentions - what's up with the big hole in the ceiling? Looks like someone threw a grenade at the ceiling. I'll definitely come back - but only with an appointment. read more

I have been taking my fuzzy critter (adult cat, around 7 years old) here for almost as long as I've had him. They did his neutering, they've done his annual shots, they treated worms he had when I first got him as a stray, and most recently they treated an ear infection. It is a very warm place, and Dr Beer is obviously in love with what he does. It was recommended to me by a friend who lived very close by. I'm not in the immediate area, but it's worth the drive anyway. Although I only used one other vet briefly and so don't have a very broad basis of comparison, Care Pet Clinic is definitely more affordable than that one was. I've never had a complaint about this vet clinic. My little guy is the world to me, and I wouldn't continue taking him someplace I didn't trust completely. read more

It is a terrible position to be in when you need urgent care for your pet but you are afraid you might have to do something drastic like sell your car for it. I don't even go to the doctor myself so I was really happy to find Care Pet Clinic. I took my cat in after not being there for 2 years when he got a pretty bad cat bite on the neck from a neighborhood alley cat. Luci wasn't being all that compliant so they put him down and kept him overnight. I wasn't worried at all about not being able to afford it because this clinic isn't interested in making money off of you, they're interested in taking care of your animals with integrity and class. Every experience I've had here has been professional and I couldn't recommend a business more. Honestly, this is the reason that I think YELP is important; places like Care Pet Clinic that might not be that well known. I agree with other reviews that finding the vet is slightly tricky because its attached to another business off of Main St but please, stop calling it "hood". You may see some interesting characters along the Main strip on your way in but you're safe. Drive here from the 'burbs without hesitation. We've been taking our three dogs to Dr. Beer for for several years and I wish I could explain how happy we are with the whole staff and how much we trust them with our dogs. I've mostly worked with Dr. Beer and Maria, who I believe is the head vet tech. Dr. Beer is so friendly and thorough. He is very down to earth and never speaks in "vet" terminology that the average person won't understand. Maria is nothing short of amazing too. She is so sweet and upbeat; I trust her to care for my dogs on the same level as I trust Dr. Beer. She is especially sweet to my VERY energetic pit bull and understands the ups and downs of bully breed ownership. We recently had to have one of the pit bull's split claws extracted. I was so nervous for my dog but they made the experience easy and painless...for both the dog and me! Because we were scheduled to fly out of town the next day, I didn't want to leave my dog at our regular kennel because she needed to be on antibiotics. They gladly offered to board her and even though I'd never had my dogs stay there overnight, I didn't have a single worry the entire time we were gone because I knew she was in good hands. On top of all that, their prices are MORE than reasonable and I always feel like I get even more than what I've paid for. The office is always so clean and it's an inviting environment. It's set up just like a doctors office: a large waiting room and several private patient rooms to take your dog to while you wait to see the doctor. I love the staff, the facility itself, and of course Dr. Beer! My previous vet's facilities smelled terrible and the vet seemed extremely bored. Not at Pet Care Clinic! Clean, bright facilities, and energetic staff/vet. They all seem to really love what they do. Going there does not seem to stress my pets out. Dr. Beer takes his time with each animal/owner and is more than happy to answer your questions. The prices are fair and while my pets are absolutely worth it and I'd pay more if I had to, I'm grateful for fair and competitive prices at CPC because I'm not made of money. I no longer live in OTE but I can't imagine taking my kitty and pup anywhere else. And re: wait times, I have had one long wait. (what I consider long) It was about 20-30 minutes. Usually it's about 10 minutes. I've had times where I check in and I'm immediately taken to an exam room, so zero minutes. read more

I have always been happy with the service that I have received here once you get in to the room with the vet, but getting there is a big thing. First of all, how do none of the review mention that 4 square foot hole in the ceiling from water damage that leaks on you in the waiting room? It seems like this kind of thing is a pretty big issue for a place that is performing surgeries. Maybe said hole wouldnt be such an issue if you weren't in said waiting room for hours at a time as you NEVER get in within 45 minutes of your appointment. The hole is one issue, but another one with staying in the waiting room is that, because Care Pet is so reasonably priced, they get a lot of animals coming in that have just been picked up by rescue groups. Don't get me wrong- it is awesome for those dogs that they are going to get rid of their fleas and mange and go to a loving home. It is not awesome for my dog who is being exposed to those things while we are waiting forever for his appointment. TWICE once we got into the exam room, the vet spotted a flea on my dog; who is on preventative and did not have fleas.. he was picking them up in that stupid waiting room! Dr. Beer is very sweet and I think he has a passion for a passion for animals. Like I said, the service from the vets themselves has never been an issue for me here, but I cannot deal with that waiting room environment and the huge delays anymore. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Beer! He is very knowledgeable and caring. I have been taking my 2 dogs to Care Pet Clinic for over 3 years now. I was able to get a next day appointment without any problem. My dog recently required surgery to remove a mass from her chest. Dr. Beer was great in explaining the process. Our dog came home that afternoon and is now on the mend. The prices are very reasonable for expert veterinary care of your loved pets. I can't recommend Care Pet Clinic enough! read more
