One of the worst financial decisions I've made in my life. I came in for a consultation for one dog. The trainer offered me a "discount" if I enrolled both of my dogs in a two week boarding/training program. $4,000. I was told I would get updates with videos and I had to keep calling/emailing for those. I went to visit halfway in the program via appointment made and still had to wait 25 minutes to see them. When I came to pick them up, one of the trainers was yelling at several dogs and talking under her breath about other owners. The day I picked up my dogs, the trainer must have been in a bad mood and not interested in showing me what they "learned". I noticed they didn't have food and they said they tried to call me. No texts, no voicemails, no emails. I emailed the office after I left and was offered an opportunity to come back to learn how to work with them more. Though that session was more helpful, they did an absolute terrible job from start to finish. They even couldn't spell my dogs names right. My dogs cannot walk on a leash without me having to use their collar every second. They still have anxiety going through doors and waiting. I wouldn't dare bring my dogs back for their "immersion" with other dogs. they told me an excuse after expressing dissatisfaction: they would have done better if they had gone separately. Yet I incentivized to enroll them together ?? Terrible service and business. These people don't know what their doing. I should have disputed the transaction. My dogs are absolutely no better when they left than when they arrived. I'm convinced my dogs sat in a kennel for 14 days. read more

Will update review as my issue resolves. Dog trainer and training is 5 stars, However this review is regarding payment and administrative process. When you purchase the boot camp, there is an option to pay in full at a discounted price or pay the full price, but in payments over a period of time. I have been charged 3 times within LESS THAN A MONTH. At this rate it appears I have paid up front and I am now suffering the financial consequences of being charged unexpectedly. With inflation and holiday season, these back to back payments are leaving me in a financial turmoil and I am unsure how the holiday is going to look for my family. It is my hope that the manager will recognize the inconvenience and at least provide me with the paid in full price as this could relieve the stress. As of now I CANNOT recommend Sit Means Sit. While the well being and training of my pet is important to me, the financial stress it has caused makes me regret coming here. Worst financial decision this year and I'm ashamed that I didn't do more research on the owner's reputation before committing my hard earned money. I paid for the two week immersion for two dogs and it was such a waste of my money. During the stay, I never received any updated on their progress which is part of what I paid for. The owner had a variety of excuses ranging from he was short staffed because an employee to the system was new to his email was broken. (All are your basic "f*** boy" lies). Honestly, my dogs came back without a lick of training which explains why there were no videos to send. Unlike others, I was able to have training sessions which demonstrated that the training techniques can work quickly. After these lessons, I was further convinced that nothing occurred during their immersion stay seeing how quick they responded to and retained training during our follow up sessions. WARNING The initial boot camp was good but then they swindled us. Our $2k package included a year of free group classes. They gave us a portal link that didn't work, I tried a portal links on their website; there are no class schedules. My calls and emails were answered with the same links and then not at all. I even literally begged for help on their FB page, which also doesn't post classes but DOES get updated daily. Nothing. Since then, the owners have left and this location is no longer a part of Sit Means Sit. We've verified this on the official Sit Means Sit website and via telephone with their corporate office. I have called multiple times over the course of two weeks asking for them to process a $466 refund for services we did not use (after we changed our mind) and we have not received it yet. We did not sign a contract and cancelled our sessions but still, no refund. There is no excuse for this. These people are thieves. Most interestingly, after The last time I called I stated my request and the person on the phone knew my name before I even told her. Initially when I came in for a consultation with Toby back in February, was impressed with the things that could help Toby and his behavior. HP came and did a demo with Toby and another gentlemen came after and pitched us the different types of lesson we could move forward with. I forget his name but he almost looks like Patrick Dempsey. During the consultation, what MADE my boyfriend and I sign was the fact that Sit Means Sit offered a payment plan option that can be payed within a year, we just needed a $100 deposit to schedule the first appointment. I had a trip to Denver that approached in March and waited to pay that deposit after my trip. When it was paid, the girl I spoke to said I was all set and I would get an email regarding an appointment confirmation and receipt for my payment. When I returned, that's when COVID came about and lockdown was placed and I cancelled the appointment with concern about COVID. Today when I dropped off Toby for his lesson. Someone mentioned about payment that needed to be collected and I asked what it was about because I elected to do the 1 year payment plan and if I could push the payment back, the guy said yes and took Toby and said someone will speak with me about it when I pick Toby up. Well, my boyfriend and I picked up Toby, went through the lesson that he learned and I asked about the payment and what it was about. HP, said firmly that the payment cannot be pushed back and you guys were no longer doing a year payment plan and that it was actually set up through SQUARE which they are no longer doing due to COVID. HP also mentioned that a link was "for sure" sent to me for me to sign up but no where was that previously mentioned to me in ANY emails nor in person during my consultation. HP did offer to do a two month payment plan but it was short notice considering the fact that we were initially offered a YEAR to then now, two months. HP also said it was awhile and no payment has been made yet and well, of course, again we chose to do a payment plan AND why would I start paying when training hasn't even started yet? HP swore that he mentioned it and HE was the one who met with us, in which he did, however it was just for the training techniques with Toby but he did not go over any financials with my boyfriend and I. It was the other gentlemen who looks like Patrick Dempsey (I seriously apologize for not remembering his name). HP then said for now, we can cancel the future appointments, took the e-collar back and we awkwardly walked out. I am honestly extremely disappointed how the situation was handled. I am trying to understand from a business standpoint that we have to pay, which I have every intent of doing however, it was never communicated about the SQUARE link that was never emailed was no longer valid, if you offer some type of deal or payment option to someone back in February, I believe it should be honored. HP offered to refund me my deposit but after I sent him the email typed above ^^, HE responded twisting my words and then said he refunded my deposit of $100 but applied to his staff that trained Toby (my dog) for the day. Im not even upset about the $100, I already assumed it was non-refundable and after the lesson I got, I truly think his staff deserves it but dont say you're gonna refund it when you're not. We came here a few years ago (when they were still on Durham) after we adopted a dog at 9 months old that wasn't trained in any way. It was our first dog so we saw Sit Means Sit at an event and it peaked our interest to get our dog trained as well as the model dog they had on site. What bothered me about this place is when they sell the training program to you they say you get a leash, a pad to bring home that the dogs use to learn how to stay, and as many classes as you'd like. It was all very misleading. 1. We did not get the nice, thick leash that was displayed. Instead we got a cheap one that we probably could have picked up from the dollar store. 2. We asked for months for the pad and it was always an excuse. The delivery was delivered to the wrong place or we just ran out or whatever it was. Finally he gave us a used one to hold us over with the promise of giving us a new one once shipment arrived. We never got a new one. 3. The in-home training sessions were scheduled but the trainers were often late. It was always a flat tire or traffic. Considering what is paid for the training, I didn't think it was worth it. There are different packages of training. We chose the package where the trainer comes to your home and trains until they feel the dog is at a level to train with other dogs to socialize them. It was the mid level course in regards to price and recommended by HP and made sense at the moment. Another thing that rubs me the wrong way about this business is that the owner actually gets defensive about negative reviews and responds publicly yet rarely thanks all the positive reviews. I am a disabled First Responder and needed a dog for a companion / service dog. I realize that SMS doesn't train service dogs but we were starting with basic obedience classes. I came in several times before signing up for classes. I met an instructor who was a Vet and I felt like he understood my disability and I could easily work with him. I never got the chance. In the first of the "Private Lessons" the owner split my time with another student. The next lesson a totally different trainer who had no idea where we were in the training. Next lesson was supposed to be with the owner and I showed up to find another trainer. I was told that the owner was out on leave and he would call me as soon as he came back. I'm still waiting. So, I still have an untrained dog in which I can't take with me when I go places and I've given up hope of having a service dog. They are totally unorganized and unprofessional. This place demonstrates terrible customer service and I will never feel comfortable bringing my dog back. There is no one ever to answer the phone when you have a question or to check in on your dog when you have left them for 'board and train.' The manager, HP, specifically will dodge your phone calls left and right when it has anything to do with money. (My credit card was way overcharged even before our services began). It took everything to get the managers attention such as phone calls, text messages, emails and leaving a review on google. OUR DOG GOT PREGNANT UNDER THEIR CARE AND THEN THE OWNER WRITES A HOT CHECK TO SHUT US UP! We sent our new dog there to get trained and we explicitly told them she is not spayed. They assured us they separate the dogs. Surprise surprise she comes back pregnant! We couldn't continue the group training and our bills started adding up to care of our pregnant dog. I boarded my dog here for about a week and a half. Everything was going well until I got a call my dog got injured. They played it down like it wasn't that bad and could wait the next day, which was when I had to pick him up. When I arrived he looked awful. He could barley put his foot down on the ground and was bunny hopping just to get around. I took my dog to the veterinarian to find out what was wrong. They told me his hip was totally dislocated. Also there were wounds on the bottom of both his legs. I tried to call sit means sit to get more information and they got very frustrated with me when I asked questions. I asked to see footage and they said no. I asked to speak with Hp and I got told he wasn't in and was told he would call me. He never called me. The veterinarian had asked me what happened and I could only tell what the little sit means sit told me. I asked the vet how much force it would take for a hip to be dislocated like that and they said a tremendous amount would have to take place for this to happen. I have spent almost $2,000 in medical bills and in counting because I still have to take him for check ups and xrays. I also spent around $700 for boarding my dog for this to happen. And now my dog is in a sling till almost the end of December. He can't go on walks or move around a lot. I'm very displeased with the way Hp and sit means sit has handled my situation. read more

When I asked the girls at the front desk how much longer, they just shrugged and said it depends on how many questions the couple has, but they didn't offer an apology or even seem to care that I had been waiting so long in the heat. Finally I left without having met the trainer because I wasn't sure how much longer I would have to wait. Please don't take your dogs here. We went in for an "evaluation" and there was no evaluating. It was just a hard sales pitch immediately trying to sign us up for their extremely over priced training. Nearly $2500 to train my dog with a shock collar? No way! The facility is also a small trailer. And the dogs that were getting trained while we were doing our "evaluation" all looked sad and kept trying to run back to their crates. It made us so sad. They also kept calling us after we left to continue to try and get us to sign up. Avoid this place! There are multiple positive reinforcement training places nearby here for 1/10 the cost. Over the past few months as HP has worked hard to get his team up and running again I've met and seen a valuable commitment to the sit means sit system that I initially signed up for and saw in Orange County. Each location is different but after moving here and spending a few Saturdays with HP I can see he does really try very hard to make the best of the challenges of a small business owner. We love SMS Houston. We were struggling with behavior issues with our Shiloh Shepherd puppy and were bringing twin babies into the house in addition to already having a seven year old. We needed to get the puppy under control. We tried puppy school at a big box and it was a complete waste of time and money as it did not work at all. After doing some research, we made the decision to call SMS Houston and get a free evaluation. HP came out to our Home and evaluated Fergie. He briefly worked with her and by the end of the 45 minute evaluation she was staying in place which she had never done before. We were sold! We sent her to SMS and HP did her immersion training for 11 days. We joke that we got a different dog back. Having a 90lb puppy that was bad mannered was not something that could continue. She went from being super hyper on a leash to being successfully walked by our seven year old. She comes and sit/stays on command and we got the added bonus of her being fully crate trained when we got her back as she would howl previously prior to her training. We are taking full advantage of the lifetime group classes and are continuing to reinforce her training. HP has made two follow up house calls to make sure that we were doing okay and to make sure that she was not regressing to prior bad behaviors. (She hasn't) I would highly recommend having your dog trainied by SMS Houston. HP and his team are miracle workers and have so much passion for your pet and their training. It is worth every cent. It is an awesome feeling to be able to take your dog out anywhere including high distraction places and have a non-reactive dog. I had my dog, AJ, with Sit Means Sit Houston for 3 weeks over the summer. He was mostly with HP, but when I took AJ back for group classes, he seemed to be comfortable with all of the trainers and they all knew him by name. Their group classes are a great way for AJ to learn to socialize and me to learn new ways to communicate with my dog. AJ is not the nicest dog. He's 10 years old and set in his ways and he's pretty darn spoiled. He is my fur baby and if people ask, he is my son. I treat him as such. That being said, dog training isn't a boot camp where your unruly dog is whipped into shape and is never bad again. Dog training continues at home. I practice place with AJ every day. I make sure to go to our group classes once a week, which is included with the immersion program. As for the e-collar, AJ actually gets excited to wear it. I've been to enough group classes to know what the proper setting is for the collar to not over-stimulate him. But the collar is an easy way for me to get AJ's attention. It's like tapping a human on their shoulder to get their attention. I tap on the e-collar whenever I say something directed at AJ. That way, he knows that if I say his name and a command, he will pay attention. And actually I don't chastise my dog during training or ever, with or without the collar. I only have a neutral or positive attitude when talking to AJ when I use the collar. That way it is never seen as a negative thing to him. In fact, I'm pretty sure he has figured out that he gets more treats when I use the collar. So its really all about attitude. If you have a negative view about the collar, your dog will as well. I've had a wonderful experience so far with Sit Means Sit Houston and actually I live in Austin through the end of the year and the Austin Sit Means Sit branch was kind enough to honor AJ's group class pass for the year that we are living here. read more

I was disappointed that the advertised "free evaluation" was actually only a demonstration of the E-Collar. From the description online, I thought there would be an opportunity to learn more about my dog's temperament and discuss multiple training options; however, I was informed during evaluation that the only option at Sit Means Sit is to use the E-Collar and that dogs cannot participate in any services here without using the E-Collar. Additionally, I found the trainer to be condescending, assuming that I do not have knowledge of behavioral principles and did not understand the purpose of E-Collar, repeatedly rephrasing the same information over and over. I think it would be more accurate to advertise as an E-Collar training facility. read more

I'll began getting my dog trained in February 2019 since then every dog I've had I've brought to Sit Means Sit Houston in 2019 I had a Staffordshire Name Milton sit mean sit fixed all his behavior issues and was great with obedience training. After a year passed I got another puppy (royalty) and it drove me crazy because I didn't know how to train her I brought the new puppy to sit means sit and that were more than happy to help. In the consultation visit we came across two dogs that they were"training", to say the least the method of training seemed Like the type used for circus training. The dogs body language seemed scared and completely submissive, which I guess is the point of this training. In my eyes this seemed like a cruel way to train dogs. I chose to do their boot camp program and I can't begin to tell you how thankful I am for SMS Trainers. I have a confident obedient dog who gets along with other dogs and animals. Our decision to put our dog, Taylor, into Sit Means Sit ended up costing her her life and us the worst heartbreak. Our fur baby is dead thanks to Sit Means Sit. Taylor went missing under the care of her trainer, HP. The story we are told was that Taylor was "let out" by a worker while she was boarding with HP at his home. Taylor is a walking piece of our heart. She was a very sweet and timid rescue dog that we loved very much. Being a rescue, she's always dealt with extreme anxiety which started off as fear of other dogs and people which gradually grew to aggression towards these things. She was never aggressive to us or our other rescue dog, in fact, she was extremely attached to us. However, we would refrain from taking her to the dog park and she no longer got to go with us to new places because of her new found dog and people aggression. We decided to invest in Sit Means Sit to improve her and our quality of life. We were so excited about the idea of being able to take her to the park without worrying about her biting another dog or have guests over without her barking or trying to bite them. We met with Sit Means Sit and we opted for the weekly program instead of the immersion. We met HP or Kritter for training once a week since May. During one of the times due to HP being late, he let gave us and another customer 2 days of boarding which was like a mini immersion program. My boyfriend and I were out of town in August and decided that after 3 months with Sit Means Sit, Taylor could work on her separation anxiety and training at the same time with a trainer that we trusted. Not in a million years would we ever imagine that the person we trusted the most with our dog would be the one who lost her for us for good. My boyfriend dropped Taylor off Friday evening to her dismay. She cried to see him go. He thought it was tough love and she would be a stronger dog when he picked her up on Sunday. Turns out the person that couldn't handle it was HP. Saturday morning, he called us to tell us that Taylor was let out by a worker. He promised to have her back in his care by Saturday afternoon, that it was a "closed" neighborhood and she couldn't have gone far. If she wasn't back by the afternoon, he will put up LOST posters. He claimed to have put 60 posters up. Come Sunday evening when my boyfriend went to pick her up, she is still not back in his care. There was not 1 lost poster in sight... which HP claimed that the City of Houston took down. In the upcoming weeks, we printed, posted, handed out, hundreds of posters and yard signs. To this day 2 months later, whenever we go back to his neighborhood on a Taylor lead from our posters and signs, we still find them up, so it's peculiar about the 60 he claims that the City of Houston took down in 1 day. As consolation, HP did refund us our entire training fee, helped us put out posters and yard signs (though we suspect it was more of a PR play to save face since it was organized by the president of the Animal Justice League who lived in his neighborhood), hired a dog search and rescue (although promised to set dog traps in the area the rescue claimed she was in and never followed through), and would follow a Taylor lead if we aren't available to drive to his area. We appreciate the effort because there is no legal obligation for him to do any of those things, however, nothing mends the broken heart we've endured from losing our dog. We hope that our story can help avoid any future customers potential heartbreak and think twice before putting their fur baby into Sit Means Sit. We really hoped that this story would've ended differently with an obedient Taylor who can play at the park and a glowing yelp review. From May to July, it was on track to being just that. The weeks we spent in training, we saw immense improvement with Taylor and we really like HP and Kritter. However, that's not how the story ended. After 2 months of searching endlessly for her, we found her dead, hit by a car, only a few blocks away from HP's house. We've been dealing with immense heartbreak and trauma to find our baby that way. read more

Despite being featured so many places, I think the "attention based" training method was not what anyone would have expected if they're interested in bringing their dog to be professionally trained. I understand it's not a shock collar, but the collar used by Sit Means Sit is all they are selling. He showed me how easy it was to get my dog to heel properly (in less than 30 seconds) by using this collar to get her attention with an involuntary muscle twitch caused by electric stimulation. Some dogs might need assistance, but I doubt most do. The extreme prices are not justified either, because my brother in law was able to get his dog immersion trained with the exact same collar for 21 days for only $800. Whereas Sit Means Sit begins at $2,500 for the same service for 11 days. My boyfriend and I explained how we are recent college graduates that just want to instill good habits in our dog while she's adjusting to us before we could commit to this expensive of a program-- the best offer we were given was $800 for three private classes (including the collar). There was also a 10% discount for having a shelter dog, but that did nothing to put it in the price range we were very open about while discussing. Nothing else on their website was mentioned to us, even when we asked specifically if there were cheaper options. Private classes or immersion training. That was it. On one final note, I know that this might be the sign of "well trained," but our trainer's dog looked overly submissive and didn't ever seem excited a single time while we were there. read more

Disappointed came in for an "evaluation" and all i got was a sales pitch and him showing me videos of their group classes, where they just walk around in a leash. They then demonstrated with one of the puppies they were training, and explaining....but all i could hear was the lady pressing the button and turning on the puppy's collar NON STOP. The collar might not cause harm, but the puppy looked TERRIFIED. What a complete waste of time. I feel like if you are a really good trainer, you shouldn't need a special collar for the dog to listen. I've seen many trainers that don't use a collar and their dogs listen very well. They seem to have some very good programs and the young lady that did my dogs evaluation was very nice and knowledgeable. Due to lack of finances I won't be going with them but I definitely would recommend them to someone who can afford the different programs they have to offer. read more

I highly recommend Sit Means Sit Houston. HP and company did an amazing job in training my 16th month stubborn English Mastiff. After the one week board and train program, my mastiff comes when called, stays in place, and best of all I am able to walk him outside off leash. He sticks to me like glue. HP also gave a personal lesson on all the commands and how to continue to train to make a bomb proof dog with all sorts of distractions. the program is pricey but definitely worth it. Great example on you get what you pay for. With the week training, you get free lifetime group lessons, and a free training cot which unfortunately does not fit my large dog. My dog used to be that annoying dog that bothers my guests and other dogs. HP showed me the skills and tools to have total control in my house. I have tried other board and trains and have spent a fortune doing so. I wish I went to Sit Means Sit Houston first. read more

I went by about 9:30am and was talking to one of the representatives who was telling me what they do and how it work and was very rudely talked to by the man in the first picture. Never told his name just rudely talk to. He informed me if I could not park the car and get out like a human being ( in short let me know I was not human) that I could leave. The representatives was already talking to me and looked embarrassed when the other guy started talking. He all but called me stupid. Is this how you treat the people of this community if so he does not ever have to worry about me adding any money to his business. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. read more

Sit means sit changed our lives. I couldn't take my dog anywhere without her misbehaving or attacking other dogs. Now I can take her anywhere, she's got perfect manners no matter what. My family's quality of life has improved greatly and I'm so proud of my dog. HP, Kritter, and ALL of the dog trainers there are top notch, fabulous dog trainers. I can contact them anytime if I have a question outside of my training sessions. There's no one else I trust with my dog more than the Sit Means Sit Team. There's no question about who's the best dog trainer in Houston, it's Sit Means Sit hands down. read more

This would be zero stars if I could submit my response that way. Do not take your dog to this place! I've read so many reviews of abuse and bad business practices on here. I met with HP and he never even said hello to my dog all he was interested in was telling me about the program. Why do they call in an evaluation when he never even touched my dog. They should call it a high pressure sales pitch! I get that he needed to explain what they were all about but you'd think someone who said this was his passion would at least be interested in petting my dog. When I replied to his email and said I was no longer interested in his services he asked what my reasons were. I replied politely and said I just don't agree with his type of training especially since I had a same breed dog (Aussie) before that we used more traditional training with (now a shock collar) and that I think they way they train they dogs is inconsistent and just confuses them. I also have a friend who went through their training and I can't walk in their house without that dog jumping on me every time. When he replied with a looooong book of an email and he gave me the blah blah blah about how their company is the biggest in the nation and and how he doesn't train dogs to be robots. I guess I'm a bad dog owner for not wanting my dog to jump on me or my guests in my house or to stay off my leather furniture. I'm sorry but a well behaved dog does not jump on someone as soon as they walk in your house. This is no different than this new age of parenting telling Johnny to "use his words" and expect they are gonna do what they are supposed to. I also didn't appreciate the high pressure sales and there's no way in hell if ever consider their business after his response. And btw he's running for Congress so I'm pretty sure if he wins you won't be seeing him around in the business anymore like he claims he will be. I just moved to Houston from San Antonio, where I put my dog in the SA Sit Means Sit's 3 week boarding program. She was very anxious and reactive when I rescued her. The San Antonio Sit Means Sit was absolutely AMAZING and completely changed mine & my dog's lives. A month or so before I left San Antonio, the staff got a new trainer- one who transferred from the Houston location. Many dog owners in San Antonio, including myself, were not fans of this new trainer. She didn't seem to care as much about the dogs and she tried to get the reactive dogs to do stuff they couldn't do, like stand side by side in a tight circle as the warm up for class. When I found out I was moving to Houston, I was very nervous to have to go to the Houston Sit Means Sit because of this trainer. I scheduled a consultation with HP in early August. He was very nice and I appreciate him squeezing me into the schedule for the weekend I was in town. I still had a weird feeling because of the Houston trainer, but I tried to look past that. HP gave me the OK to come to group class as soon as I moved & he actually told me my dog would be fine. I was really excited to continue group class... until I got here. I am in the Spring/Woodlands area so the Saturday group class in the Woodlands works best for me. The Heights is a far drive & I can't make it to a 6:30pm class after work, and the 11am class on Wednesday's... nobody who works can make that. I have been trying to attend the Woodlands class since the first weekend in October. It is ALWAYS cancelled! Since Saturday October 7, there have been 7 classes that have been cancelled online. Today, December 23, I was SO excited to see it wasn't cancelled. I even planned my holiday travel plans around this group class. So today, I went to Cattail Park, using the address on the website, and arrived at 8:45am. I walked around the park until 9:10am. There was not a single Sit Means Sit trainer or client in sight. I tried to call their main office twice but their message machine told me it was after hours, even though their website says they have a 9am group class in the Heights. I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume someone forgot to cancel it online, but I am so tired of trying to attend group class with them. They have been extremely unprofessional and unorganized every time I've been in contact with them. I am ready to start looking for other dog training programs and I would encourage all potential clients to do the same. If I would've known I was moving to Houston back in March when I started at SA Sit Means Sit, I would've NEVER agreed to transfer here. I miss San Antonio and wish Houston Sit Means Sit could be as good as they were. read more
