This park is located in Anchorage's Mountainview Neighborhood, just outside of downtown. The park…read morewas originally developed as military housing in the 1940's. The park as you see it today was developed in the 1980s. It spans 66 acres and is leased from the Joint Base Elemendorf-Richardson by the municipality of Anchorage. It is a decent park, but pales slightly in comparison to the park that is located right next to it. It has a couple of parking areas, with ample parking. But beware, one of the parking areas near the basketball court has some huge pot holes. The park also has a 9-hole disc golf course that is pretty decent. You will find a good multi-use field here that has football uprights and can be used for a variety of activities including soccer, football, playing catch, ultimate frisbee, or flying a kite. The little league baseball field there is trashed. There is a bunch of trash in the dugout and the bleachers are busted and turned upside down. However, it could still be used in a pinch. The full basketball court is suffering from the same neglect. The court itself is in decent shape, but the rims are missing nets. You will be chasing the ball all day if you play on that court. You will find a bunch of picnic tables scattered among the park's green space and a decent partially paved/partially natural trail. There is rumored to be a community garden, but I did not see it. That may be due to me visiting in very early Spring. Now let's talk about what the park does not have. It does not have playground equipment, nor does it have a restroom facility. This park is ok and does have a few things its neighboring park does not have such as a multi-use field or disc golf. That park has some features that this one does not have like a playground area and picnic shelters. So, ultimately, they are a good compliment to each other. This park does need some attention and I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was in the shape that it was in due to being off season.

Having completed a few 5k's this summer, I was recently re-introduced to this beautiful trail…read moresystem. I agree with other Yelpers when it comes to the trail being secluded and more "in the woods," compared to say, The Tony Knowles trail, which is a favorite of mine. Because of this, you're definitely more likely to see wildlife on this trail, so be bear and moose aware. Carry lots of bug spray. The biggest pro about this trail for me, is all the shallow fresh water access points. Please note, the most secluded parts of this trail are also home to Anchorage's homeless population, so it's best to be aware of your surroundings in general.

Anchorage's urban trail system is it's biggest asset that no one outside of Anchorage knows about,…read moreand that folks in Anchorage take for granted. This one runs West-to-East. In the west, it starts at Westchester Lagoon and it seems to end at Goose Lake Park in the east. I use a good chunk of it to bike commute. It's nice in that it rarely intersects a road. Where it approaches a main-vain, it tunnels underneath the road. Chester Creek is also very picturesque in parts. It's got a gentle flow, it's lined with trees, and it's dotted with quaint little wooden bridges. It makes me want to sing "Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go!" It's decently groomed in the winter, and is the realm of XC skiers and fat bikers, but it can be done with some good waterproof boots, on foot, as well.

Woo to the hoo. This park gets my seal of approval for having the much maligned teeter totter…read more This puppy has been brought into the 21st century and is a darn sight safer than those ones from back in the old days. It seats 4 and is super fun to play on for little and big people alike. I like this park because it also is connected to the Chester Creek Trail and the Goose Creek spur. It also has a play ground, trees and open space in equal measure, adequate parking, a baseball field, and a bball court that doubles as an ice hockey rink in winter. SLICK Y'ALL!!!

Aside from the ice rink/basket ball court and small amount of playground equipment, there isn't…read moremuch incentive to go out of your way for this one. It does, however, serve well enough as another one of Anchorage's little neighborhood parks, tucked back into the Airport Heights residential area. For those that live in the area, it's a fairly quick stroll to/from Fire Island Bakery's nearby shop or fast access to the Lanie Fleischer Chester Creek trail. If you're on a long bike ride with the kids, this isn't a bad rest point though you might just consider Goose Lake park which is just over the nearby bridge (crossing Northern Lights). There's also a baseball field next to the hockey rink but not much else. Anchorage has quite a high number of these little parks hidden away in its neighborhoods. This isn't the best of them but it'll do for a sunny afternoon stop.
