This park is located in Anchorage's Mountainview Neighborhood, just outside of downtown. The park…read morewas originally developed as military housing in the 1940's. The park as you see it today was developed in the 1980s. It spans 66 acres and is leased from the Joint Base Elemendorf-Richardson by the municipality of Anchorage. It is a decent park, but pales slightly in comparison to the park that is located right next to it. It has a couple of parking areas, with ample parking. But beware, one of the parking areas near the basketball court has some huge pot holes. The park also has a 9-hole disc golf course that is pretty decent. You will find a good multi-use field here that has football uprights and can be used for a variety of activities including soccer, football, playing catch, ultimate frisbee, or flying a kite. The little league baseball field there is trashed. There is a bunch of trash in the dugout and the bleachers are busted and turned upside down. However, it could still be used in a pinch. The full basketball court is suffering from the same neglect. The court itself is in decent shape, but the rims are missing nets. You will be chasing the ball all day if you play on that court. You will find a bunch of picnic tables scattered among the park's green space and a decent partially paved/partially natural trail. There is rumored to be a community garden, but I did not see it. That may be due to me visiting in very early Spring. Now let's talk about what the park does not have. It does not have playground equipment, nor does it have a restroom facility. This park is ok and does have a few things its neighboring park does not have such as a multi-use field or disc golf. That park has some features that this one does not have like a playground area and picnic shelters. So, ultimately, they are a good compliment to each other. This park does need some attention and I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it was in the shape that it was in due to being off season.

It seats 4 and is super fun to play on for little and big people alike. I like this park because it also is connected to the Chester Creek Trail and the Goose Creek spur. It also has a play ground, trees and open space in equal measure, adequate parking, a baseball field, and a bball court that doubles as an ice hockey rink in winter. SLICK Y'ALL!!!

It does, however, serve well enough as another one of Anchorage's little neighborhood parks, tucked back into the Airport Heights residential area. For those that live in the area, it's a fairly quick stroll to/from Fire Island Bakery's nearby shop or fast access to the Lanie Fleischer Chester Creek trail. If you're on a long bike ride with the kids, this isn't a bad rest point though you might just consider Goose Lake park which is just over the nearby bridge (crossing Northern Lights). There's also a baseball field next to the hockey rink but not much else. Anchorage has quite a high number of these little parks hidden away in its neighborhoods. This isn't the best of them but it'll do for a sunny afternoon stop.

But this park is also plagued with chronic drug and alcohol addicted folks who trash public areas, including human waste. This park has insufficient parking- which is split into two separate locations. One is on the west side and the other on the north east side. The NE parking lot is where you dealers and users can typically be found. Families and children are more typically found in the west parking lot. It's common to see fish and moose along in this park on this section of Chester Creek Trail. There's a cute little playground here as well on the west side. There are some very pretty bridges in this section of the trail also. This is also one of the few locations where the creek is low enough for people to safely wade during the summer. The salmon viewing pier was condemned a few years ago and it doesn't seem like the city had any plans to fix it since it was a hangout for using. There are many varieties of plants, flowers, berries and birds found here, which make it a lovely greenspace for people and animals alike.

There is also a large dog park and there are various trails. There are spots to grill and picnic, and a shallow area of the creek in which people both small and large can play. There are birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and beautiful vegetation surrounding you right in the heart of the city. My two drawbacks - this is a pretty popular spot for people with kids, so don't expect it to be quiet unless you hit it on off-hours; and when packed, parking can be a bit much. *Don't forget to bring your inflatable raft so you can float down the creek to Peanut Farm when you leave* *Bring cash for the ice cream truck*

It has a small awkward parking area by the basketball court or you can park on the street by the swings. The park has a pretty good baseball field, a sand volleyball court with no net, two full basketball courts (even though only one has nets), a low basketball goal, and a couple of picnic shelters with picnic tables under them and grills just outside of them. There is also picnic table placed in some of the park's green space. There is playground equipment all over this park, highlighted by a rocket ship shaped jungle gym. Most of the equipment is older traditional equipment and is mix-matched. And you will find all of the popular equipment there such as traditional and toddler swings, a jungle gym with slides, bridges, monkey bars and rope ladders, a rock-climbing wall, a see-saw, rocking animals, a merry- go-round, snail shaped monkey bars, a hold and spin, a tall slide, and 4-way arch climber. For the most part the playground is wide open, but they do have a fenced area for kids 2 to 5 years old with some rocking equipment and an unfenced Little Tot Play Area that has a small jungle gym with some little slides. The hodge-podge equipment is a little dated, but still in excellent shape. The equipment looks like they purchased them in different years, but it all works. Even though it could be a bit cleaner and have a little more maintenance (which may be in part to me visiting during the off-season), it is still a very nice park for the littles to play, have a picnic, or to host an event such as a birthday party. The shelters have to be reserved through the Lion's Club before use and are nice. There is also picnic tables and benches around the park. It would probably be better if you parked on the street because it was a little challenging backing out of the little lot. Also, there is a gas station across the street, with a convenience store where you can buy drinks and snacks for your visit to the park.
