I usually walk through this park when walking between restaurants and bars. During the summer the park has flowers bordering the walkway, which are always very beautiful and well selected. Dahlias, red cabbage, kale, and poppies to name a few. In the winter, there is an open area that I imagine a romantic slow dance taking place with a suitor under the starry night sky, and surrounded by trees covered in christmas lights. Occasionally there is live music, but usually it's used as a walk through for people getting between streets or to chill on the pavilion area. There used to be more of a concrete structure for seating and such, but it was taken down because it created an area for miscreant behavior. If you build it, they will come.

Sometimes it's a concert venue, sometimes its a break-time stroll but rarely is it ever patrolled effectively. If you're interested in snapping photos of drug deals or catching the action of someone falling down drunk, this is your best bet! (Well... there is the bus station up the street too.) We watch the tree-lighting ceremony here every winter and enjoy live music in the summer so it's not all bad. If you're going for a show at the Performing Arts Center, it can be fun to people-watch from the safety of a second or third-story window. Otherwise, this park's offerings are only really nice in theory. There's a cute little concrete path around some of the trees (just dodge the harassment) and the annual ice sculptures are fun but this is just one of those places you don't feel very safe in unless a big event is happening. As the centerpiece of downtown Anchorage, I'd like to see a little more development here.

Town Square Park. In the summertime, visit it for the flowers and the outdoor concerts. In the winter months, check out the ice sculptures, and while attending a symphony or concert at Christmastime gaze at all the lights through the big windows (A.C.P.A.) at intermission time. Dance on the ice on New Year's Eve.Take a walk in the brisk cold and snap some fast ones, as I have (included here) . Then, yes- put them on a Christmas card, as I have-:-) I wouldn't call that cheesy! Haha. But yes, be careful while walking through sometimes. As in any other big city, one must always be aware of their surroundings. I think a park downtown is a beautiful touch. Even when I am driving past and take a glance, this park always gives me a smile.

If you like quirky parks with loud jets flying over, this is the perfect place! I stumbled upon it…read morewhile exploring around Anchorage, and it was such a fun spot to spend some time on a beautiful sunny day. There's a large parking lot, complete with a couple of outhouses and (at least on the day I visited) a hot dog vendor, too. The parking lot sits well above the beach area, where I walked around and did plenty of people-watching before heading out to the point and the very colorfully painted structure that (maybe?) I think has something to do either with airplane or sea navigation. Surrounding the point were zillions of painted rocks. It was local art gone wild and I loved it! At regular intervals, giant jets flew over upon takeoff from the airport (which is mere yards away). If you don't like loud jets, I would not recommend this beach. But if you do, well, you've come to the right place!

A dead moose carcass…read more Graffiti, mostly colorful. Didn't close enough to see if it was also tasteful. Slippery clay and mud - lots of moments where I thought I might slip and fall to the ground. Definitely something to watch for. Small granulated particles sliding down the sandy hill. Crazy to see erosion in action. Just a few of the many exciting things along this walking area. Beautiful breeze off the inlet. Lots of great views of downtown Anchorage. Lots of parking available and a wonderful place to get to see a brilliant sunset. Bring a chair and a cooler!
