We have been to a. Lot. Of cheese shops. And Cheese Shop of Portland is easily of one, if not our favorite out there. I WISH we had a cheese shop of the same caliber near us. I've visited Portland at 5-6 times, and this is always a must-go for us. Will and his team are the best around - so passionate about cheese, incredibly warm and excited to share their unrivaled cheese knowledge. The shop itself has a great selection of local products - perfect for a taste of Portland picnic or charcuterie board. So whether you're a seasoned cheese eater or a newbie, stop in and let their team open your eyes to the amazing world of cheeses. I always leave learning something new and finding a new favorite cheese.

This place has everything you could want for a great charcuterie board, minus fresh fruit! The cheese and bread we bought here tasted amazing! The staff was so kind and lets you have samples so you know you'll love what you get. It's such a cute and beautiful place for hobbits and charcuterie lovers alike! Definitely check this place out!

I feel like I need a whole week to recoup from the joy this place brought me. Amazing selection of cheeses and local snacks, perfectly organized and so well laid out. The cheeses have descriptions next to them, and the variety is incredible- something for everyone! I called ahead and ordered their sandwich special- mozzarella, white beans, sautéed greens on French bread- and it was UNREAL. like truly the best lunch I have had in years. The best part of this place is how kind everyone is- super friendly staff, happy to answer your cheese questions and just chat. Truly stellar. Run don't walk! This is one of the best businesses in Portland for sure.

Excellent selection of meats cheeses and specialty goods. Even when there was a national shortage of guanciale they helped us find some. We also get a panatone every holiday season. We don't go often but I wish we did.

UPDATE: As if the Cheese Shop wasn't already heaven, now there are *cheese classes*! I just went to "Cheese 101" on a Sunday evening--and while I already expected it to be fun, it ended up being essentially dinner (yes, cheese counts as a meal). There were around 15 of us cozily squeezed around tables and we each had a plate of 9 different cheeses, arranged thematically: Goatie Goodness, Feeling Sheepish, Alpine Showdown, and A Strong Finish. Each category came with a special garnish, all a cut above the usual: a fig jam made with Earl Grey tea (mmmmm), this insanely good honey that was somehow like butter, a green peppercorn mustard (I'm officially addicted now), and some dark chocolate. Plus, paired drinks with each, ranging from rose to pinot noir to a white wine and even an ale! Will (the shop owner) and Claire were our hosts and talked us through what we were tasting, plus cheese lore galore. Check their website or Instagram for upcoming classes: I highly recommend this a fun, convivial, and very very tasty experience. (Bonus: you get a 10% shopping discount for the evening, too.) Crossing fingers that cheese tours are in the future . . .

First time in a cheese shop and I'm glad this is my first! The workers there were really helpful in suggesting cheeses after we selected an initial cheddar. He gave us samples of his suggestions while we were looking for snack cheeses. This is definitely a treat as two small (~1/4 pound wedges) and a small jar of jam ran us $25. Not an everyday thing for sure but this really opened up the world of cheese as I was not a huge fan (or so I thought) of cheese.

An incredible variety of cheeses and other items. Top level deliciousness! Staff had top notch service. Finding this shop was a delightful end to our trip to Portland!

Came by the teeny tiny shop to try some new cheeses and I was so impressed by the knowledgeable cheese mongers. I asked for a little sampler based on my preferences and they made up a few and let me try whatever I was interested in, including the dried meats. They also have a few grilled cheese sandwiches of the day and plan to add raclette which is Swiss-style melted cheese over hash browns. I'm hopeful for some tomato soup pairings with the sandwiches in the winter, mmmm... They also have an impressive array of imported foods from Europe like pasta, salts, sauces, balsamic vinegar and special butters, etc. Oh and they sell baguettes and farmers' loaves from a local bakery. I haven't had a chance to try those yet.

It's a very elaborate shop. Everything is OK , But the burrata is very terrible! This has no cheese and tastes as cotton wadding! Why?

Think European bistro sensibility combined with a laid-back Maine vibe. In the store section you'll find a small selection of cheese and other specialty items you can get on Washington Ave., along with some prepared foods you can take away. These are really delicious: so far I've tried some peanut noodles and also a carrot parsnip soup that was off-the-charts decadent (I gussied it up with a garnish when I got home and I swear it looked like something you'd get at a high-end place like Twelve, and tasted just as good). And the all-day cafe: this is SO great!! It's airy and bright inside with big windows; great for sipping a latte or having a glass of wine and watching the weather. In the mornings there's a full coffee bar, which goes until 3pm; a mid-day menu kicks in sometime in the late morning and features a daily soup and salad, a frittata, and a couple of rotating sandwich choices. At 3 it's wine bar time and the menu shifts again to offer cheese and charcuterie selections, a choice of pâtés, and a few other items like salads and olives and oeufs mayo (mmmmmm), all of which come with house-made crackers or bread. It's super smart to have curated menus like this: it means they can rotate items depending on the season or chef's whim, and just focus on making a few things and making them really well. There's a bar with around a dozen seats and a few more tables as well, so plenty of room for a convivial atmosphere. Honestly, even though they've only recently opened it already feels like a friendly and established neighborhood spot! As always, the staff are wonderful and super knowledgeable about everything they're serving; definitely ask for their recommendations. Oh, and there's (usually) plenty of parking in their lot--be sure to use their validation system when you come in (there's a place to scan both outside and in, and once you've done it it's easy enough). Sissle & Daughters is a super welcome addition and very much worth the drive to Woodfords Corner!

We went in for drip Coffee, some snacks, and to check out the market section. Unfortunately, the coffee was burnt and overly bitter and it was a brand new caraffe that we waited ten minutes for, the coffee cake was very dry and had a sour flavor that wasn't fully appetizing, the quiche slice was good enough, and the market area is more of a gesture or distilling of a store. If you're looking for specialty products definitely still go to the Cheese Shop (I and everyone we know is still calling their first location its original name). Hoping this was just first week kinks, will definitely update when we give it another try.

This place is the real f$&@ing deal…read more When you hear "Portland charcuterie," the first thought you probably have is a very expensive miniature spread of minimal, mediocre food and a lot of pretentiousness. This is the absolute opposite of that. The owner of this food truck is incredible. He is passionate about what he does, and he wants to make his customers truly happy with his product. And he sure does. Vegan? Vegetarian? Gluten-free? Meat-eater? He's got you. And you aren't an after-thought. Cashew cheese? Homemade mushroom pate? Ghost pepper cheese? Carefully and perfectly selected vegetables to go with it all? It's unreal. It's affordable, delicious, and so thoughtfully put together. I hope this food truck truly succeeds and that everyone can enjoy what it has to offer. Portland's best.

In a chapter of our local food scene's history when everything is getting dramatically more expensive while contrarily portions are getting dramatically smaller and smaller -- The Portland Board delivers. I got the Vegan Vibes board: 1. *standing ovation to The Portland Board for having a plant-based option without having to be asked or reminded that we like to eat too* It's nice not to feel like an afterthought. Also, if you're gluten-free they can accommodate you too! 2. The price was super reasonable: $18, and (segue)... 3. The "board" (because I got mine to go) had SO MUCH GOING ON. I was actually delightfully overwhelmed by the generosity. My board had pickles and olives, homemade beet hummus, a homemade mushroom paté, a homemade wedge of cashew cheese, loads of berries and grapes and peppers and cucumbers and carrots, and a mound of crackers and bread. And, no, I didn't share. Because I like to feel full after eating something I spent money on (c'mon, new restaurants and other charcuterie board businesses: in the words of our freed girl Britney "give me, give me more, give more, give me, give me more"). Also that cashew cheese was *impressive*; I've been making my own nut-based cheeses for a decade and they're good, but this? This was exceptional. I hope that The Portland Board is able to keep their current prices and their portions in this ever-changing, ever-demanding, ever-weird chapter in our food and beverage's history.

I asked a ton of people for recommendations and Harbor Fish Market was hands down the #1 recommendation. It's apparently the go-to-spot for all your fresh seafood needs... for all locals and tourists in and around Portland, ME. It's located in the middle of the busy downtown waterfront district. They have dedicated parking spots for customers. I called while driving from Brunswick to the airport... asked to have 6 "heavy" live lobsters boxed up for travel as carry-on for my flight. The call lasted about 4 minutes... I arrived about 30 min later... walked in... box was waiting for me and I walked out to my car parked directly in front of the door. WOWOWOW!!! If I had more time or lived locally I would be there weekly to pick up some fresh seafood... there were so many options and the place was super clean and everything looked fresh. They also have an easy to use website to order local pickup or if you need something shipped to you. I flew my buddy's home with me... everyone from the TSA to Flight attendants knew exactly what was in the box and only concern was if I wanted to give them one of my "lobstas" ... my family had a delicious lobster feast that evening. https://harborfish.com
