When the tank was full, the shut-off mechanism failed to trigger and gas began overflowing from my tank. I pulled the nozzle out and it was still stuck in the open position, so I unclipped it. Meanwhile, gas had splashed out all over the place, including on my pants and boots. There was a big puddle of gas, so I went in to tell them about it. A dude at the register finally looked up from his cell phone when I said "HI" loudly. I told him what happened, and he said "No worries." Surprised by his underresponsiveness, I asked if this happens a lot. He said, "It's a random thing." From the very faraway look in his eyes and his lack of awareness that there was actually a problem, it was easy to deduce that he was pretty wasted. I asked him if I should just leave or does something maybe need to be done, and he said very casually that I could go and they'd take care of it. But he wasn't moving. He had zero awareness or concern that if I were to leave, the next person who pulls into that spot would be stepping into a big puddle of gasoline. At that point a manager comes out of the back of the store with some urgency and asks what that gas smell is. I said it's me, and I told him what happened. He said they'd take care of it and I could just go. I was stunned they were both more eager to have me leave than to ask me questions. I was getting the sense that this happens a lot. The manager took the register dude with him and out they went. I stood there and waited a bit until I could see them pouring the emergency safety "sand" from the barrel into the puddle. I said to the manager that I was concerned about starting my car, because I was afraid I'd cause an explosion. He said "This isn't the type of gas that will ignite. It's not the gas that will ignite, it's only the fumes." Given that fumes were coming off of my person, I wasn't entirely sure it was wise to start the car, but I did trust that the manager would know what he was talking about in this regard. So I started my car and left. Thanks for your concern, fellas. Later, after walking with my neighbor who is a former safety inspector, I was encouraged to file a report with the police. She said there should have been an incident report taken at the gas station. She said they should have asked about my personal condition. They could have offered me paper towels to dry some of the gas off of my clothing. They could have asked if I'd gotten any gas in my eyes or mouth. I went to the police station and made my report. The officer I spoke with said he'd go speak with the fire department, too. I will not give Rusty's any more business. Who knows how often they inspect their equipment. I don't trust them. Their lack of appropriate response to the problem was freaky.

I think he was a manager - I'm gonna have a chat with his punk as__. Isn't there more to this review that flaming Irving - yes indeedie - the workers are wonderful - but Irving was the hundred and fourty second gun in the west - Irving -- sung high -- Irving sung low. Today there was a new recruit that furrowed his brow when I requested a breakfast sandwich - they're cheap and I feel kinda guilty ordering them but I make good balancing choices in the fields as I harvest and eat roots and cucumbers and cucurbits of all shapes and sizes. The town of coffee, although a bit trashed by sloppy people who can't press and pour without making a disaster of a mess - it's $1.07 and you can bring your own container of most any size, however, I stay with the 80s McDonald's non biodegradable foam they provide - which I do prefer, the cardboard doesn't hold heat well and is easily corrupted by my after work beer. The Beer Cave is a happening spot, all the way in the back and you can purchase and pound anytime of day, just not between 1am and 5am which is reasonable and they sell booze and wine and it's at all so very cheap - I could easily develop a bit of habit here in Maine - let's hope not. The magazine rack has local periodicals that cost a lot more than they deserve which isn't Cumberlands fault, their communist rags are so self serving to the posh Portland people, makes my stomach turn every Sunday morning, so I'll grab the freebies and read about Da Bearz and other high school sporting teams. Chips, dips plastic clad pies all of which I pass on but I've wanted a few gas station egg salad sandwiches which will serve you well in a pinch - that's all for now fine citizens of planet earth - until next time -

I depend on propane for my heat, hot water, cooking, and emergency generator. When they installed my tanks, they assured me they would fill them when the level, which they monitor, reached 30 %. I have called them, and sent them emails continuously this season, nothing seams to work. they don't seam to be paying attention. I have never had a problem like this before, but I am in my 70s, and I really do not need this worry about running out of propane in the winter! I'll look it up and fill it in. At 4:00 AM and any hours after midnight until then - nothing is open - yet Irving is and therefore must be awarded extra star power points to keep the lights on, coffee available and grab and go foods and drinks. The large coffee will cost $3.12 w/ tax, but will set you free from caffeines calling and with a long day ahead & the quality of the beans used, it's worth the extra dough ray me. Hot foods inside also add to the star points, as a traveler - a warm slice of pizza (perhaps a bit aged in the day) beats a cold turkey wrap. Road nomad tip: just Dunkin your pizza in your coffee for a hotter and faster breakfast after filling your tank and continuing the road. Clean outside and in - Mainers are typically good about not littering, some more than others and a few loosies can escape your clutches on a windy day, so there is a margin for litter error. Right bays to gas up, well lit and prices hover around the mid coast standard. Now weirdos lumbering around as ya find at some 24 hour spots all around our beautiful country - but don't leave your valuables unattended - says the New Yorker in me - not anywhere and not at any time.

There's a reason we keep coming back - the food and service. The ambiance is ok. Basic tables and chairs and some "circus" type of decorations on the wall. They have a pretty consistent menu that really hasn't changed, at least not that I have noticed. They have "signature" sandwiches or you can build your own. They have hot and cold deli sandwiches available. They also have wedge fries that are oven baked. Family favorites; Sonny's Supreme and the classic italian. I also also love their breakfast sandwich options. They have a cooler of beverages. My favorite is Fresca. A soda I never have at home and I soda I always buy when I can at a deli. Pairs perfectly. Don't sleep on the sweets for sale by the register. The cookies and whoopie pies are usally tasty. The staff seems consistent - hardworking, customer service oriented and nice to interact with. They keep the simple dining area as clean as they are able - during the lunch hours during the week - this place is always packed!!! Wow...it's great to see and hope this means this buiness will stay around for years to come. Parking - many parking options within .5 mile from the location. We still visit here and we still recommend it to family and friends.
