I had a gas station lobster roll three days ago from Irving Oil and they're about to get their four star block knocked off, having little to do with the lobster roll - more to do with the man why yelled "Hellooo, you must leave the premises. I think he was a manager - I'm gonna have a chat with his punk as__. Isn't there more to this review that flaming Irving - yes indeedie - the workers are wonderful - but Irving was the hundred and fourty second gun in the west - Irving -- sung high -- Irving sung low. Today there was a new recruit that furrowed his brow when I requested a breakfast sandwich - they're cheap and I feel kinda guilty ordering them but I make good balancing choices in the fields as I harvest and eat roots and cucumbers and cucurbits of all shapes and sizes. The town of coffee, although a bit trashed by sloppy people who can't press and pour without making a disaster of a mess - it's $1.07 and you can bring your own container of most any size, however, I stay with the 80s McDonald's non biodegradable foam they provide - which I do prefer, the cardboard doesn't hold heat well and is easily corrupted by my after work beer. The Beer Cave is a happening spot, all the way in the back and you can purchase and pound anytime of day, just not between 1am and 5am which is reasonable and they sell booze and wine and it's at all so very cheap - I could easily develop a bit of habit here in Maine - let's hope not. The magazine rack has local periodicals that cost a lot more than they deserve which isn't Cumberlands fault, their communist rags are so self serving to the posh Portland people, makes my stomach turn every Sunday morning, so I'll grab the freebies and read about Da Bearz and other high school sporting teams. Chips, dips plastic clad pies all of which I pass on but I've wanted a few gas station egg salad sandwiches which will serve you well in a pinch - that's all for now fine citizens of planet earth - until next time -

Winter in Maine raises havoc with the finish on your car, not to mention the exposed elements on the underside. If it snows, or there's a chance there might be ice, local public works trucks appear and dump copious amounts of chemicals on the road surface that melt the ice, but worse, destroy your vehicle. As someone who take meticulous care of my car, I hate this time of year, but what are you going to do if you have to leave the house? Well, I've become a fan of the car wash here at Circle K. What I especially like about this one, compared to some of the self-service car washes I used to frequent, is Circle K has a dedicated employee running the operation. He'll take your money (or card), direct you into the bay. Then, he takes a power wash hose and thoroughly blasts the grime and road film off the sides, rocker panels and immediate undersides of your car prior to starting you down the conveyor through the wash. Since I was a kid, I've loved the car wash tunnel and it's mysterious qualities. I'm still enamored of the experience. Imagine driving out the other end and having your car sparkling and clean again? At Circle K that happens every time. Now that I'm a regular here and enjoy chatting up the staff, I swear they give me a little bit of extra service (tipping doesn't hurt, either). Perhaps I'm imagining it. All I know is that my car after a pretty grimy experience on Tuesday is looking all shiny and new again, sitting in the garage.

Located at the junction of Old Bath Road and New Meadows Road, it's a gas station above the rest. In addition to the standard gas station store stuff (half liter colas, chips candy, ice), it got a FULL liquor department (with a moderately extensive beer, wine and liquor selection), Green Mountain Coffee always ready to go, full sized food stuffs (like cereal, gallon milk, and quart sized half and half), and a Poland Springs water stand completely stocked. The Best Part: it's open insanely early AND late. In a town where everything opens at 8 am and closes at 9 pm. This place is a god send. Forgot to pick up that milk for breakfast the night before and want your Wheaties breakfast with the sunrise at 5:00 am? No problem, head down to the West Bath Superstop to get that gallon sized 1% milk. Want to continue drinking at 10 pm and ran out of beer? No Problem, the West Bath Superstop has just what you need...when you need it. While it's no substitution for Shaw's or Hannaford supermarkets, it will do in a pinch. And it will do a good job in a pinch. It was originally meant to serve boaters putting in at the New Meadows Marina that is just across the river, but now I notice that a lot of non-boating people are using it....I know I have and I don't own a boat. And they don't care what you look like either. I went recently at 5:30 am to get half and half looking like I had (what else?) just woken up, and the check out lady didn't even blink an eye. Just don't get turned off by what I call the "ghetto factor." The outside (and parts of the inside) look like it would fit in nicely in a Bronx ghetto, but the service is pure Maine: nice and friendly.
