I can't say enough about the positive and supportive environment the teachers create. They somehow balance the emotional, technical and creative sides of being a teacher of the arts. What stands out the most is that they don't just teach dance, they truly see the whole child. The teachers are incredibly thoughtful about each student's emotional development, confidence and creativity all while helping them develop technically as dancers. Sebastopol Ballet is so special. Their student's grow not only as dancers but as individuals; teaching them discipline, resilience, self awareness, perserverance, confidence and what it means to truly have a supporitve community of parents, students and teachers.

I embrace the philosophy, as a parent, that it truly takes a village to raise a child. I feel comfortable calling this organization part of my village. My children, AND their friends are seen and heard and genuinely cared for. If I ever were to have a concern about my child's wellbeing, I know that I can extend a call to them to obtain their perspective and even ask for help. I also know that if they had any reason to be concerned, they'd extend me the same courtesy of a call to check on my child. I can't say enough about what this organization means to us as a family.

It's really the antithesis of what I and many others have thought of in the past when it comes to improv--things like extroversion, performance, sharp wit, sometimes even an effort to outshine other players. Laura and Zipline turn all of this on its head and allow us to see ourselves and each other with lightness & humor. And in an interesting way, we can even cultivate our own courage to use our voices simply by watching Laura and her team collaborate. Of course, the best way to truly 'go there' is to participate in her improv classes. I happen to know Laura's heart well enough to recognize that she makes her offerings based on a deep desire to help all of us appreciate and have faith in who we are and revel in the delight of our imaginations.

I have attended with a group of seniors many…read moretimes and staff are right there helping them to their seats, stowing away walkers until after the performance and then appearing right away after to help patrons leave. This last time, we were offered blankets to either sit on or cover ourselves as the theatre was a little cool. What a nice surprise! We have never been disappointed by the productions. Talented actors, fun props (Mary Poppins was flying!) and a live orchestra tops it off!

The inside of the theater is very cute. It's not a huge space but they do a great job of maximizing the seating area. There are some tall tables and bleacher type of seating. There is a bar where you can order drinks and buy snacks. The bartender was super friendly! I can't remember the name of the drink I had, but it was really good. This year I've seen a musical where the songs actually supported the plot and all actors were outstanding. Another play had moments of humor and deep sadness as the two leads navigated the difference between their dreams and their reality. And, last night, I attended a play based on air guitar competition -- which surprised me with the depth each character developed in between outrageous air guitar performances. Try it out! The new season begins in September -- and The California Theater on 7th Street offers a variety of comedy, musical and dance band options throughout the week when the plays are dark. It's amazing!
