    Come smell the roses...

Sofie and I went here last Friday and enjoyed ourselves at this small and homey little theater. We watched the stage play "Time Stands Still". This contemporary play was quite good! The script and the players were excellent. Cinnabar is rather unique in how small it is: 153 seats. There are no "bad" seats. We sat next to Ruth, one of the volunteers. I asked her about Cinnabar. She said she'd been there about 15 times and enjoyed every production. "They consistently choose interesting plays to produce, and the actors are very good." Sofie and I could see that many couples return again and again. There were lots of "Howdy!" and hugs when patrons recognized each other. The snacks at intermission are good and reasonably priced. A bottle of beer is $5. Brownies are home made by one of the volunteers. Parking is kind of annoying as the lot is small - but volunteers coordinate parking and exits. Seating is open - so if you feel the need to sit on the 50 yard line, get there early and wait around a while. Waiting isn't a pain. People are friendly and the grounds are attractive and comfortable. Season ticket holders have "front of line" privilege - but there were only 10 or 15 on that day. Sofie and I sat in the second row. If you have never visited the Cinnabar Theater, you should! Great entertainment. It is next door to Lombardi's Deli - and if you haven't been there, you should go there too!

The best little theater in town. Cinnabar offers high-rate acting in Petaluma. Worth the price and a visit to see great talent.

Now that I've grown I've recognized the harmful and toxic practices that occur in this dance studio. As an adult I have had to recognize that the moral lessons I learned at the school don't align with the claims they make on their website. I am unlearning the idea that I wasn't enough, I wasn't good enough, and that it wasn't my fault for how competitive and toxic the environment really was when I attended. Girls were constantly being pitted against one another whether it was harmful gossip or actual comments made by the staff. I'll never forget the way in which teachers would talk negatively about past dancers that had chosen to leave from the toxic environment. I was personally scolded by one of the teachers and was told that I wasn't cut out for a prestigious summer program "you should try out next year when you're strong enough". Regardless of never meeting PSB's expectations I was accepted to the program. Because that's what the art of ballet should be. Ballet should be inclusive and encouraging. Please don't send your kids to this school if you want them to endure trauma that will linger into adulthood!

I learned so many things while dancing for many, many years at PSB including teamwork, diligence, patience, and time management, and I'm thankful that I learned these things while dancing at such a respected and long-established studio.

I had a few questions since every ballet company works a bit differently and I was happy that the staff was quick to response and answered all my questions. It's a small ballet studio in a beautiful community of Penngrove. There is a park near it as well as a Penngrove Market. I liked the atmosphere and what I saw the first two classes I attended. Parents are welcome to stay to watch the class if they like or take advantage and finished those last minute errands you might have while your child it's at ballet. The teacher is nice but firm and she runs the class smoothly. She has a good handle on the kids and most important she knows how to talk to them. She makes sure everyone gets a turn and sees that everyone is in the right position otherwise she'll correct them. She makes the class a learning experience but fun but at the same time. There isn't a water fountain in the studio so make sure you bring water or you can purchase from the snack Bar water bottles or snacks. There is plenty of Parking so no worry there.

(( This business is also known as "Contessi Ballet". At my first class, I was warmly welcomed by the staff and dancers. They offer a decent compliment of adult ballet classes, including two levels of pointe. They offer classes both in the mornings and in the evenings, making it easy for a busy adult to take class during our ever-changing schedules. Best of all (and what attracted me to the studio in the first place), they allow their adult dancers to perform dancing roles in their productions, and even join the NBPA company if they qualify. The company class on Saturdays also offers pas de deux. The studio holds both a winter production (The Nutcracker), and a spring production. The only issues I would put forth is the cleanliness of the floor (I would prefer it to be a bit cleaner), and the temperatures in the studio can fluctuate, so dancers are encouraged to bring layers. I feel that more corrections could be given during classes (some of the teachers are young and seem hesitant), and perhaps more teacher/pedagogical training could be provided for the instructors. A great studio for adults who wish to pursue dance!
