I was pleased to find some of the rare products I love at Sips. After I selected items on their website I called with a question. The person I spoke to was very helpful and because I was shipping I had a couple additonal questions and was told the manager K.V. would call me back. KV was incredibly helpful. He really is an expert in the business and was so nice to spend a lot of time with me to inform and educate me. Their selection Bourbon and ither items are wonderful. Awesome idea! This little shop sells a curated collection of wines, craft beers, whiskey, rye, bourbon, tequila, mezcal....just to name a few. I saw bottles of sake and soju too! The concept is that they can customized any bottle, wrap and send to a recipient. If you live in Benicia they can take you order over the phone and deliver to you too! They also had a handful of cocktail mixers, novelty beverage related accessories and mini bottles. But i just enjoyed the selection, prices, location and overall aesthetic. The address is on first street but you have to go down the ally to access the cute white building. they have signage to lead the way. They have a fabulous selection of barware, rimmers, mixers, bitters, garnish, etc. The nostalgic candy selection and craft sodas add a fun touch, and their party supplies section is super convenient. They have a very wide selection of speciality liquors, spirits, wines and other drinks. The golf idea is pretty fun too! I really appreciate how entrepreneurial and creative the store owner is with improving and marketing his business. There was a large remodeling project done to create a luxurious feel to the space. The healthy drink selection can be improved with more flavored sparkling water, kombucha, oatmilk, CBD drinks, coconut drinks - if you check out stores like Bi-Rite in San Francisco or Whole Foods they often have these speciality drinks that are not available anywhere in Benicia, and I think they would be a nice addition to first street and draw people into the store. It would be amazing if you offered high quality "cheese board" appetizers to go along with the drinks - you could have cheese, cured meats, fig spreads, crackers, honey, olives, etc. Would be great if there were cards that explain the notes/region/info for the alcohol. How about a small news stand that has newspapers/journalism magazine that you can't find anywhere else in Benicia/First St? How can this transform into a healthy community space that Benicia relies on for more than just liquor? I would really recommend thinking about that! read more

The wine room is mesmerizing & I wasn't brave enough to face the chill of the beer box, but it appeared to be fully stocked. I loved the variety, and the nostalgic candies that are there. I am leaving a review on here because my comment on their instagram page got deleted. Me and my 12 year old son went to the Steph Curry event today . We had pre registered on Tuesday to be able to meet him. We were some of the first people to show up to register so I am not sure how we ended up with mint color badges (last group to go in) . I am not sure what they based their group color splits on except for yellow which was for friends and family . I was grateful we had a guaranteed spot however once it was our turn to go in they said no pictures allowed and that he was only signing bottles. It was disappointing because we saw through the screen that people with red badges were allowed to take pictures and he was signing their kids jerseys . My son couldn't get a picture or his jersey signed because the staff that had on SIPS Tee shirts on said it was not allowed. I felt forced to buy a bottle to make our wait worth it since they said no pictures . I wish the event had communicated to us that people with different color badges were going to get different treatment and our color group would not be allowed to take pictures. I would've probably decided not to show up had I known In advanced to avoid disappointing my 12 year old son. But he was very grateful he got to meet Steph in person ... I left them an comment on instagram and facebook to express my disappointment and they blocked me on their pages...I only wanted to share our experience. It would've been good customer service for them to explain why we were denied photos and autographs but not other color badge holders instead of blocking me on social media because I shared our experience from the event they hosted. read more

Came across this place on IG and had to check it out since I live about 15 mins away. They have a great selection of various alcohols all at a very good price. The owners gave really good recommendations on the different whiskeys that they have in stock and were really knowledgeable on the bottles they had. I purchased 2 different bottles of Japanese whisky while I was there and I fully recommend paying them a visit. Next favorite thing; I go in to buy liquor I am not well versed in, no problem they select for me based on my price point and the need to impress someone with my gift. Next up; Scotch. This store has one of the biggest selections of your choice of alcohol I've ever personally seen. They also recently had Steph curry doing a signing here as well and did an amazing job coordinating everything with the city of Benicia and curry's teams as well to provide an amazing experience for everyone. I never thought I'd describe a bottle shop as cute but it absolutely is! This small shop is tucked away behind main buildings on first street and what a find! The owner is a younger guy and super chill. They have a good selection of bottles, mini liquor bottles, wine, champagne, and tons of things to build your own gifts baskets like dehydrated fruit for cocktails. Went there with my girlfriend to get some alcohol for the night. The place has a lot of options. I'm leaving this review because I felt like when I was in there, I felt like I wasn't welcome and the workers were all focused on what they were doing. I felt like I was being watched by a guy in the corner. I'm 25 but I look young I guess. When I went up to pay, I didn't realize I had gotten non-alcoholic beer but the guy didn't say anything. He asked for my ID and stared at it for 10 seconds. Went home and realized I had non alcoholic beer and decided that I do not want to go back to that place again. I believe that Benicia's newly opened Liquor/Wine/Lots of Other Stuff shop, "SIPS - The Bottle Emporium" sets a new standard for stores of its kind. I'd even call it the best in the Bay Area. I make that claim while fully acknowledging that I'm not a liquor/wine store expert. But I'll still go out on a limb and say that, in my humble, uninformed opinion, SIPS is unique. (It previously was known as Sendsips when located at a much smaller, nearby location.) SIPS has assembled a very extensive, outstanding collection of top-shelf liquors, along with some less expensive brands - and I'm sure could order you almost any bottle that it doesn't have in stock. It also has a very nice collection of wines and beers, including in refrigerated, walk-in rooms (the wine one even has a small waterfall) - and even including a small selection of "Benicia" wines it's had bottled especially for its home town. But there's much more to this spacious store. There's a tasting corner, where my visiting nephew and I tried a few types of tasty El Tequileno Tequila the other day. A fellow sipper told me that it's well known in Mexico, but has only been marketed in the United States for a couple of years. It will have similar tasting sessions of other products on a pretty regular basis. There are plenty of mixers and other alcohol-related products available, such as an Old Fashioned-oriented concoction and many more exotic options, for those who like to make their cocktails quickly and easily. I was tempted by the varieties of flavored, vodka-infused whipped cream, for instance, but held off (at least for now). There are some non-alcoholic spirits on offer, for those of us who like the experience of a cocktail or other drink, but must abstain from booze or simply choose to do so. There is a wide variety of soft drinks, ranging from the very healthy to the standard sugary. There is candy - lots of candy, especially of the chocolate kind. For those who prefer their snacks on the salty side, SIPS also has plenty of those available. There is a good variety of gifts and other non-liquid products, ranging from glasses to cocktail recipe books (e.g., Tequila Mockingbird). It even has pet-oriented items, such as a "Woof Clicquot" ("Pawduct of France") squeeze toy. Last but for some not least, there's an indoor golf simulator at the back of the store. I guess golfers could practice their game there, then purchase a bottle of their favorite kind of alcohol (or again, non-alcoholic alternative) and repair to their own private 19th hole. Again, I'm not doing justice to this great new addition to not just Benicia but the Bay Area. In addition to being open every day, I believe that SIPS offers delivery options. The store is well worth a visit, regardless of whether you're in the market for liquor, wine or beer. At least in my admittedly limited experience, there's nothing quite like it. read more
