People die to get in this place…read more The Original Owner of Parkside sold out to Dignity more than a year ago. It's kind of like those mergers you hear about where a big fish consumes a small fish. In this case, the owner of Parkside reached his retirement years so he was looking for a buy-out. He was a responsible man who would return your calls that I chatted with a couple of times. I enjoyed chatting with him. After the merger, they closed down the original Parkside of many years on Queens Blvd and then combined operations with other Funeral Homes at this new location on Queens Blvd listed above. Economy of scale. My family and I did business with Parkside many times over the years--not Dignity--so not sure if things changed. Probably did. Reality is that there is nothing pleasant about Funerals and Funeral Homes. I had to pick out a casket and burial plan for my mom per her instructions before she past on and take care of the business end of things. I highly recommend doing that at least a few weeks in advance of death or longer if the person knows what they want--get all plans finalized and paid in advance is the way to go. New York State law requires that the funds go into escrow until the death. You won't lose them. The guy I was dealing with at the home was a retired NYC cop. Working at these homes was a retired cop doubling dipping kind of job. And they know who to call if you need heavy lifting pall bearers. And they make arrangements for a secure hearse and limo rides--retired cops part-time on those gigs too. People turn over cash at funeral homes and there can be violence sometimes as families meet who have not seen each other in a while or are unhappy with the will or someone trying to take jewelry off the corpse during viewing. They can tell you 100's of stories. It's a good thing to have cops there to make sure things go right. But I was also part of a funeral where the widow did not pay in advance for the funeral and on the day of, we were locked up in a room at Parkside negotiating and writing checks--you don't want to be there. I still have bad memories from that. Don't do that to yourself please. And as far as Caskets go--if your budget can handle it--try to get a nice casket. You don't need the Gucci, Burberry or YSL model with the logo on the side, just a nicely appointed one--that looks classy. Costco sells caskets too--not sure how that coordinates with the Funeral Home? And with Costco if you are unhappy with the performance of the Casket--they offer a lifetime return policy.

When my granddaughter and I arrived at Arthur's from Dallas, TX the next day, I knew immediately that we were at the right place. Alan, and Arthur Dybaniwski, went far beyond the call of duty to assist us at a time when we were overcome with grief and desperate for support and assistance. From working with the medical examiner to get her death certificate in 48 hours, to sending a courier to pick up the documents, to guiding us through the surrogate's court requirements, to her cremation just a few days later, they compassionately served our all needs. I was especially grateful that Alan told me about the documents needed to go through security with her ashes. I rarely write reviews but I absolutely had to wirte this one!

When a beloved family member dies suddenly, there are so many things that need to be done in such a short period of time and it competes with the desire to give the most respectful and loving send-off possible. The Leone family really came through in taking a number of items off of our hands so that we could focus on honoring our mother's life appropriately. They also came through in a number of additional ways in which they were in no way obligated, but because they are good people. We highly recommend this venue, which is itself very beautifully appointed and conducive to a tasteful, commemorative mood. Thank you, Leone family!

They were very caring and very responsive to my needs. The reason I used them was one of my cousins caregivers recommended them. She has been a hospice care giver for 20 plus years so I figured her recommendation was solid. It was!

There was very little patience or understanding during the insurance and payment process, adding unnecessary stress to an already painful time. During such a difficult moment, we expected our loved one to be treated with dignity, care, and respect. Saying goodbye is one of the most meaningful and lasting experiences a family faces, and every detail matters. Instead of leaving with comfort, we were shocked and distressed. It was heartbreaking to see her that way. That lack of attention to detail, care, and compassion was terrible. We were told the owner, Gus, would reach out to discuss our concerns, but he never did, which was very disappointing and spoke volumes. We hope that by sharing our experience, families will think twice before entrusting this funeral home with the care, respect, and dignity their loved ones deserve.

When searching for direct cremation services after the death of a loved one, I called three places in Manhattan. Pricing was comparable but the conversations seemed impersonal, cold, and purely transactional. While I'm sure these other places provide fine services, my call to GV Funeral Home was the first conversation that felt warm and personal. They conveyed condolences (which in my experience was not standard protocol amongst others) and expressed a personal interest in my family's needs. By the time I visited to do our paperwork, I had spoken to multiple individuals at their business who all introduced themselves. My father, an older man, was the next of kin, and they took the time to ensure he understood what he was signing. The same level of care over the phone was further exemplified in person. There are many places that offer this type of service, but dealing with funeral directors Gregory and Jennifer reassured me that I was getting the care my loved one deserved. The exceptional level of service at GV Funeral Home helped alleviate the pressure of what is otherwise an incredibly difficult time.
