We had an external prescription, so my son did not have to get an eye exam. Today, we decided to get an eye exam since his prescription was close to expiring. Unfortunately, the experience was not ideal and, to say the least, not a positive experience. Dr. Wallace Guerrant's bedside manner left much to be desired. From the very beginning of the appointment, it was an awkward exchange of frustrations on his part. He was frustrated because some of the equipment was not suited for a smaller child and he kept requesting my son move a certain way or sit a certain way to accommodate the equipment instead of the equipment accommodating my son. He got extremely irritated because he was asking my son to look at a mirror behind him while he was shining a light in his eyes. You must know how to be patient with children because it can be easier to get confused. He lacked the patience that would be expected of a physician working with children. As a Mom, it was clear that his frustration were impacting my son and that is a NO GO, for me. After the unpleasant experience I chose not to schedule my eye exam with him. The other staff, like Karen, made the rest of the interaction much better. We won't ever utilize the optometrist for an exam ago.

I planned on leaving from his office to go on a week vacation until Dr. Richardson said he was prescribing eye drops and if anyone has experienced the same pharmacy delays I have you know my reaction to that! No worries though, the front desk staff googled the closest pharmacy to my vacation spot and sent the prescription there. And, gave me her cell number in case I had any problems getting it! I have the utmost confidence that Dr. Richardson knows my vision history and is treating my specific issues. My eyes never feel like they have been abused when I leave his office. He's careful, considerate, knowledgeable and never rushes. I highly recommend them!

I tend to stretch my contact lens supply out for a long time (especially when I wear glasses some…read moredays). Still, they run out and I must get new ones. However, if you've been away from the eye doctor for a year or two, you need to get an exam before ordering more. Once my vision insurance kicked in, I headed out here last fall in hopes of 1) figuring out WHY my contacts always seemed blurry and bothered my eyes and 2) ordering new ones! The first time I was here, I did have to wait nearly a half hour beyond my scheduled appointment time. Bah. But once I was in, it was good. Maybe it's been quite awhile since I had an eye exam and technology has improved/been added, but they were very thorough in their exam -- having me go through three or four different machines to evaluate my eyes! This doesn't even include the optional (but costly) retina scan thing. Once I was in the final exam room, the optometrist took her time with my evaluation to figure out the best contacts for me. Not only did my prescription differ from my old contacts, but she suggested dailies. The dailies have been awesome. My eyes haven't been dry and irritated when wearing contacts. Yay! My only issue was some technical stuff regarding billing and ordering. There were some confusion over whether or not I/insurance paid, what had been ordered, etc. They forgot to place my contacts order so I had to wait a bit longer to get them. Then a few months later, after I already had my regular order of contacts, they called me to tell me my sample contacts were in! What? Weird. Regardless, friendly people, clean place, great options, decent service. My business is staying here.

I was treated badly by the front desk, person, and the person who took me back to have my eyes examined. The front desk woman with the long dark hair told me well. We don't have your results so you will have it done. The one who took me back to have the eye exam questioned me on why I didn't have my paper signed, and when I explained to her that I had pulled up results from an eye test that I had done that I was going to show the doctor. I was told that if I didn't have the test done, she would be dilating me. Now mind you, I drove myself, so I was curious to how she was going to dilate me and why she said it in such a nasty way. But because I don't like conflict, I said do what you have to do when she was done. I went back to the room and waited for the doctor. I showed the doctor the results. She confirmed that I had that test done. I wasn't apologized too. I told her what her employees had done and said to me and that they were rude to me. It was basically just looked over. my point is this is a test that would have caused me an additional $40 and I felt that the way I was treated was unprofessional. Why are you trying to force me to pay for a test that I told you that I think I had already taken and I was looking to show it to you?! The only reason why this place even gets two stars is because of the woman that checked me out. She was very sweet very pleasant and knew how to talk to a patient. I'm not hard to get along with. I do not cause a scene. I do not raise my voice, but I do expect respect. And I don't feel that's too much to ask for considering I'm paying you to do a job for me. Basically, I walked out without getting glasses from there because I would rather have my money spent somewhere else where I'm treated better.

As my vision needs have shifted over the years, they have always explained clearly exactly what's going on and what the options are to address it. They get me in and out in a reasonable amount of time, but it never feels rushed. The staff who handle the billing and insurance and the people who help you select eyeglasses are equally courteous, professional, and prompt to handle any request. I was especially impressed when I once called to make an appointment because I'd gotten part of a ripped contact stuck in my eye. They told me to come in immediately. As soon as I arrived, a tech was able to remove the sliver of contact that was stuck and causing a lot of irritation, and they didn't even charge me a penny for doing so! I have had only positive experiences at Vision First in the 30+ years I've been coming here, so I will recommend them to anyone looking for a good optometrist or place to purchase glasses or contacts.

About three weeks ago I went back and got the eye exam and I told the eye doctor I had always had trouble with these glasses. They did not seem to transmission from close to far like all my other glasses had. He explained that there was nothing wrong with my glasses. I disagreed and suggested we leave it there. i just wanted to make sure my new glasses were right. I picked up my new glasses this last week and it is amazing how my eyes have improved. They work great with these new progressive lenses in the regular and sunglasses. I do not have to take them off to read or to work on my IMac. It couldn't be that these new glasses were ground differently could it? It had to be my eyes because the eye doctor said my lenses were progressive lenses. I am just glad these new glasses are better. The moral of the story is to not let anyone convince you that your new glasses are ok when they are not. I should have rejected mine 4 or 5 years ago instead of letting me believe my issues were normal.

Fast forward to now..... HORRIBLE. Let me explain as this is the very first negative review I have EVER given. I made an appointment for my two daughters and I on a Friday. I take off work, the girls rearrange their schedules, and we go to the office at our designated time, which was confirmed with a text. There is no one there. We sit in the car for 45 minutes desperately trying to get in touch with someone, no answers. I should probably mention there were 2 other people in the parking lot doing the exact same thing. I finally get some call center a million miles away and they say that "late last night" my appointment had been cancelled, but she showed no attempt at notifying me (at least she was honest and apologetic.) Basically, I completely wasted an entire morning and I was asked to make another appointment for the next week for the girls and one the following week for myself. When the girls arrive the next Friday, they are treated poorly. The front desk staff is courteous and kind, but the doctor literally yelled and berated them during their time being examined. They left the office upset, crying, and begging me never to send them to that place again. These are tough older teenage girls who have a tough mom. I can't imagine how awful he had to be to illicit this kind of response from not one, but BOTH. Not only that, but the office that I had once trusted, completely took advantage of their naivety, and up-sold them for a crap ton of things they did not need. I have excellent eye insurance and have been getting regular exams for the three of us for a long time, I know the typicals. It was triple what I normally get charged.
