I made an appointment here and showed up a lot earlier however, they received me and started the process right away to the point where I was seen a bit earlier than my scheduled appointment. The staff at the front and the Doctor were both very friendly and professional. I had a few tests done for prevention and they were all good and I did not need glasses so that was nice. There were a lot of other people there so their shared practice is big; they also have glasses for sale if you need them. The parking was a bit tricky because I didn't expect that many people to be there however, I was still able to get in and out pretty quickly. I was given a coupon for the only recommended item I needed so that was nice. Then towards checkout the employee really had mercy on me as I couldn't find my credit card and wanted to use multiple to pay the copay... so I will forever be thankful for that. If you don't mind a busy, hectic, and non-professional atmosphere, it is a good fit. oops - forgot to mention incompetent, Example - Huge Mistake. Actually put wrong lens in my frames. Was not even close to my prescription! Optician said I could have wrecked my car driving while wearing incorrect lens. Simpson reordered lens. After a 10 day wait, the second lens arrived. OMG. They caused all kinds of visual issues. The third attempt - disaster! I ended my relationship with Simpson. New optician got it right the 1st visit! read more

Made appointment and was seen by optometrist who was very nice. After my appointment they collected a copay and said that was all according to the online insurance review. Later I got a bill with a late fee. When I called to explain the situation and pay the initial missed expense I was told they would not deduct the $5 service fee. I have been a patient for years however this is ridiculous. All providers know in advance what the patients out of pocket will b and they collect it. To make that mistake and not listen to your patients is disastrous. All over $5. read more

They ran my vision insurance and gave me the out of pocket cost for the glasses I selected. A month later I get a bill for $150 and with a stamp that they are going to turn it over to collections if I don't pay. After being a customer for 20+ years, but the last 2 years has not been good. I recently had the worst experience of my life with the new management. Also, I was out over $800.00 dollars for a pair of glasses and lens which made me dizzy and had difficulty caring out daily activities. There was something wrong with the prescription placement of the progressive lens. I have worn a progressive lens for many years and that is what works for me. They sent me a certified letter at Christmas 2024 telling me I was not allowed to come back into a Simpson Optical store, and they cancelled an appointment with one of their doctors I had been waiting for 4 months to see to determine what the problem was with the glasses. I have to search and fine a new optical business to service me and fix the issue while they continue to deceive the public. I was shocked by the lack of communication and consideration they had for a long-term customer. I have spent thousands of dollars over the past years to contribute to their income. I highly recommend not going to them for anything. They will not stand behind their product or service. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. read more

I'm not one to write reviews unless they're a good experience, or a really terrible one. I received a bill from Simpson Optical about 3 months ago for some things that weren't covered by my Insurance. No big deal. I called to make a payment and was on hold for 32 mins. Sorry, I can't wait that long. Next month bill comes adds $5 service/late charge - immediately called again to make a payment - again waited 41 mins. I don't have time to wait to make a payment. So, I get a bill today it's now $15 in service (fees). Explained the prior experience to the 1st person I get and she finally took my payment instead of sending me to the "business office" but company policy would not let her remove the fees and stated we couldn't schedule appts until the full amount was paid. No problem, I am paying the bill, but will take my family of 4, who have been going to Simpson for 17 yrs., to one of the doctors who left from there a while back. From what I understand, this is what happens when corporate buys out small firms. I will never recommend Simpson to anyone, because to lose my business over $15 is absolutely a new kind of stupid. read more

I've been a loyal customer for many years and have always had a good experience pre pandemic. Seems most of the optometrists left post pandemic and they are extremely understaffed. It took forever to get an appointment and I had to see the extern, who, though knowledgeable and pleasant, was slow and very loosely supervised. I called before my appointment to see if there were any earlier openings and was abruptly told 'we're booked solid until December'. Then at my appointment I overhear the same receptionist instructing other receptionist that while they have no open appointments walk ins will be accommodated if possible. Maybe I'll just walk in off the street next time. Wait time would come out even, I'm guessing (took 1h45 min to get a simple yearly check up). On a positive note everyone except that one receptionist is super nice even though visibly frustrated at being so understaffed read more

I cannot say enough about this place! I was dealing with some issues with my one year-old son. I had a prescription for glasses and I needed to get them on him ASAP. I called everywhere in Lexington trying to get the prescription filled. No one could help me or it would be a two week wait to get it filled and I couldn't wait that long . I was finally able to speak with a lady named Amanda Weikel. She was able to get us in the next day. She actually moved patients around just to fit us in. Her and another optician named Janea ( Jae ) Maxberry took AMAZING care of us. This is a great place for children. I completely 100% trusted both of them with my child. I was very upset under the circumstances I had found out a couple days before about my child, and Amanda went out of her way to console me and be there just like a friend would. This office deserves 10 stars! Both these women deserve medals for everything they've done For my son today! No one else would help me but Simpsons optical! Thank you so much Simpsons. I had an appointment today, after three years because of my fear of Covid. When I made the appointment I explained this. No one wore a mask until I asked. They told me I needed tests that my insurance covered so I said okay. On the way out they told me I owed $59.00. I told them to bill my insurance and they said it wasn't covered. Then I asked for my prescription and pupillary distance and was told it was in the packet they gave me. It wasn't. I called immediately when I realized I didn't have the most important thing I needed and was told they had to email it and I would have it at the end of the day. I asked if they could rush it and the said they would try. At 4:45, almost six hours later, I called to ask for my prescription again. I was told it could take 3 to 4 days. I asked them to just give me the information over the phone and they refused. I asked to speak to the doctor and they refused to let me speak to the doctor. They said they would connect me to the office manager and gave me someone's voicemail. I asked again for the information and they refused to give me my own personal information. I will never, ever, ever give them my hard earned money again. What ever happened to good customer service and taking care of your patients? I am appalled! read more

I have been a long time client of Simpson Optical in Lexington, Kentucky. Over the years, Simpson has been the premier optical and optometric company for prescription eyeglasses and service. Several years had passed until I went in three weeks ago to order new prescription lenses for several pairs of eyeglasses. The optician that assisted me in the past is no longer employed there. I was waited on by a young man whose attitude from the beginning sent up red flags. He did not seem interested in helping me as much as he was getting out of the store to head out to lunch with a friend. After telling several times how much in discounts he was giving me, the bill for the lenses still came out to just under $1000. The optician said he would call me as soon as they were in--estimating a week to just over a week. One week went by, and there was no call. I called a few days after that, and the receptionist said one set of lenses had arrived, but the other two had not. Another week went by, and because I still hadn't been received a call, I phone them on a Saturday morning. The receptionist who answered that the lenses had come in, had been inspected and were ready to be installed. I asked her why they hadn't notified when they arrived. She responded that the lenses had been lying on a shelf where no one saw them or thought to call. In the past, the optician who had previously helped me was prompt, courteous, and responsible. Not so much here in February 2020. Things have changed. One sees multiple receptionists with little or nothing to do, few opticians on the floor, and a rather laissez-faire attitude permeating the atmosphere. This may have been a one-off experience. I would not say it isn't. I will pause the next time I need to order glasses. There is a lot of competition out there. Maybe it pays to shop around. read more

First, let me say, I have been a Simpson Optical patient for at least 5 years and have always experienced exceptional customer service by the staff, and professionalism and expertise by Dr. Joy Simpson. From the minute you walk in the door you are greeted by numerous smiling faces at the front desk who are ready and waiting to get you checked in for your appointment. The front desk staff are courteous, prompt, and professional. I can't say enough about Dr. Joy Simpson (Dr. Joy as her patents call her). She goes above and beyond as an Optometrist to meet all your optical needs (eye health, comfort, and vision). I won't go to any other Optometrist as long as she's in practice! On my first visit I had an appointment with Dr. Joy. This is a much larger office than I expected and it was very busy inside, there were many receptionists to check patients in. I had a minimal wait time and was into see the doctor quickly. It was a very pleasant and quick exam. I wanted both glasses and contacts but focused on glasses. After my exam there were so many frames to choose from and I had someone to personally help me. I chose to have a frame held but ended up finding exactly what I wanted at Warby Parker. With the year ending I forgot to get my contacts and use my optical insurance, they got me back in that same day to have a contact fitting where Dr. Joy solved my contact problem by offering me once daily contacts. She also price matched them to an online dealer. I thought this would be a fight, that I would have to pay for another exam but I was so happy and highly satisfied with my experience. I wanted to make an appointment for the Meijer Way location with Dr. J. McMillin. Got through right away and got an appointment EXCEPT it was at Tate's Creek location with Dr. Leigh. Called back to find out Dr. McMillon is booked out until Jan (2 months). I was told they had 12 doctors that I could make an appointment with to get in sooner. Great, EXCEPT most of them are not listed on the Simpson optical website. Three of them have only their names listed, this includes the one I was given an appointment with. Five (including the 2 McMillin Drs.) are listed, but that leaves four of their doctors that don't even have their names (let alone their training and experience) on their website. I called to point this out but the receptionist seemed rather annoyed, unfortunately I don't really expect this to be remedied any time soon. Rather disappointing. read more

This is just simply the best place to trust for total eye care. I went here for an exam and new glasses in August 2018. I have complicated vision needs and it's difficult to find the right professional to provide what's needed. The service I received was outstanding and my glasses were terrific. I have since moved to Nashville and I scratched my reading glasses right in the line of vision. I contacted Simpson and not only were my lenses covered by a warranty but they made new ones and mailed them to me. They just could not have been nicer to deal with and they simply made the problem go away. I only wish that they had a location in Nashville! read more

When I originally got my prescription for contacts filled, the exam went well and my contacts were filled in a quick timely manner. Unfortunately, now that I'm trying to get a copy of that prescription, it's next to impossible. I have called 5 times now and no fax has been received. I can receive faxes from countless other people but this Simpson Optical office conveniently fails to get it through. Customer Service here is below any acceptable level. I just moved to Lexington and I was excited to check out Simpson Optical as I have always had a great relationship with my previous optometrist. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back. I came in for my first appointment probably mid-September? I was told that I would receive a pair of trial contacts within 2 weeks. That didn't happen. About a month later, I called and they had some excuse, but expedited them to me. Cool. So the contacts worked, and I ordered the full set for the year. I was told I'd get a $50 rebate and the contacts would be delivered to my doorstep within 2 weeks or a month (can't remember). I waited well over a month, and I decided to call again. This time, yet another excuse. They expedited my contacts and delivered at the beginning of December. The process should not take 3 months. Not only that, but I never got my rebate. The doctor talked over my head and it felt like he was in a rush. The staff all seemed extremely stressed and I felt like I was inconveniencing them. This place needs some professional help to make their systems work better. read more

Our whole family has been going here for a few years. Always a long wait for appointment and for the glasses. So about 2 months total time. My daughter made an appointment in June for today. When she arrived for her appointment, she was told it had been canceled back in June and the next appointment isn't available until the end of August. If you are going to cancel someone's appointment without telling them and they arrive for the appointment, you should work them in not make them wait for the next available appointment a month away. Over the past four years, I have gone to Simpson Optical for my family's contacts and have been pleased with the service. Their dubious actions on my most recent visit have unfortunately forced me to terminate this relationship. The visit began with my request to renew my prescription for Equate contacts. The optometrist recognized that the Equate contacts were a rebranded contact from Coopervision. He made no mention that they did not sell the Equate contact or the private label version thereof, but nonetheless billed me for the visit and fitting fee and issued a prescription for another brand (Proclear). When I attempted to use the prescription to refill my Equate order, it was denied for not being comparable to the Proclear. After several phone calls, I managed to get my fitting fee refunded for them having sold me a contact that I did not request. They still proceeded to bill my insurance, and so I must pay in full to have yet another eye exam so that I can get my contacts. Furthermore, they refused to issue my prescription because they refunded the fitting fee. Only after I said that withholding my prescription was a violation of the fairness in contact lens consumers act, did they offer to send my prescription, but they purportedly sending me a prescription for glasses, instead. read more

I've used this place for now four sets of glasses. The first three times were easy; glasses and prescriptions were correct each time. This last time (for another expensive set of glasses) has been a nightmare,and I still (after 2 months and 4 tries already - 5th in the works) haven't received glasses with correct lenses. The people here are the best all the way from the front desk to the doctor to the opticians helping to fit your glasses. For example a few months ago my glasses broke but I didn't have an appointment for an eye exam yet since it wasn't time. I went in and they replaced the broken bow with a similar one they had (not exact but close enough that it's not noticeable). Jack said no charge and I said I'd be back when it was time. I made an appointment a few weeks later with a doctor there and got my glasses there. They have just been the best. I noticed they will tell you if you look bad in a certain pair rather than just letting you buy unsuitable ones. The glasses I have are the best that I've ever had! read more

I am very concerned about the lack of knowledge and experience at this location. My wife came to this location May 13, 2019 complaining of extreme sensitivity to light and watering eyes. They never dilated her pupils, and told her that her pupils are large and this is the reason she was experiencing that sensation. Fast forward to this past weekend, we called because again, she had continued to experience the watering and light sensitivity with extreme pain and discomfort. Someone saw her this past Sunday on call and prescribed antibiotic/steroid drops and told her that her cornea was scratched on the 2nd layer. When she experienced extreme pain again this morning, she went to see an ophthalmologist and was told that she in fact did not have a scratch but corneal erosion where the top layer of her cornea is coming off. This could have turned into a corneal ulcer and eventually loss of vision or the loss of the entire eye. NOT ONCE did anyone recommend a medical doctor or ophthalmologist. and furthermore, the ophthalmologist stated that the drops prescribed by your practice could have caused further damage!! I know a lot of people seem to love this place, but the fact that this happened is terribly scary and I understand it is a business and needs to make money but the fact that they seemed to prioritize making money over the well-being of their customer/patient says a whole lot. read more

I made an appointment because of the enthusiastic recommendation of a friend. Ironically, the doctor I saw (Dr. Courson) wasn't the one she loved, but I liked her fine. In fact, everyone I encountered was nice. But optometry is a dog-eat-dog business, so there's heavy emphasis on selling services and glasses. It made me and my wife uneasy. I bought a pair that seemed expensive because they deserve to make money, but I'll use the prescription to buy additional glasses from an internet source that my wife, who is very fashion conscious, uses exclusively. read more

I'd give them zero stars based on their service, but I can't so I'll let the one star count toward their selection -- they have a great selection. But their lack of service ruins everything else. When I placed my order, they said it would be ready in 10 days. I called after 10 days, and they said it was 10 *business* days. I called after 10 business days, and they said since my order was entered on a Saturday, it wasn't processed until the following Monday. But I placed my order on a Friday, not a Saturday. I visited Simpson Optical for the first time because I was very unhappy with my previous doctor and was having trouble reading with the contact prescription they gave me. I'm so HAPPY I chose to seek a second opinion. Every staff member has been very nice. Dr. Lanham listened and took time to answer all questions. She changed my prescription and the brand of contacts.
