And that's why I had such a tough time contemplating switching to a conventional coil system after discovering major and possible, ongoing problems. With Jim's advice and assurance, I went ahead and opted for the switch. Jim did an excellent job on my 1979 Mercedes 300TD wagon. Getting the alignment done correctly on an older vintage/classic car is pretty tough because most alignment shops only deal with newer modern cars and when talking to them, you can tell they are not very knowledgable about these older cars or what to do with them. They might tell you they could do it but trust me, you need to take it to a place like Simpson Frame Service that specialize in these types of vehicles. The big chains like Pep Boys might be able to get your car's alignment "in the ballpark" but is that really what you want? My husband has a work van for construction and one of the shock absorbers had snapped and had torn the frame where it connected. Every place my husband went to made a HUGE deal out of this, and they really didn't want to deal with it. I was referred to Jim and Simpson Frame Service by my mechanic Craig at ISE Automotive. I needed someone who could perform a custom alignment, modify my strut rods, and install and understand a Global West lcokout kit. The problem was if I had done one without the others, I would have to get an alignment after each task. So, I needed someone who could do all three jobs at the same time. This is where Jim and his expertise came in. Jim knew I had a custom suspension and needed a custom alignment, the strut rods could not be modified without an alignment, and how to install a Global West lockout kit. It was like a miracle. Jim went to work and performed his magic. He called me when the car was finished and had me drive it around. But, the real test was when I took the car to Willow Springs Racetrack a few weeks later. It was the best my car had ever felt. Jim is very knowledgeable about suspensions and very easy going and honest guy. He even followed up with me after awhile to see if everything was alright with my car. Of course, everything was great. But, I am sure if something was wrong, he would have made things right.
