Can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for Simply Wine! We learned about them when my husband accepted a delivery of a case of wine thinking I ordered it and when I saw it later I thought he ordered it - oops, neither of us had ordered it! I called the shop to explain the delivery mix-up and they promptly picked it up & gifted us a bottle of bubbly. The next time we were interested in buying wine, we went to the shop to check it out and well the rest is history as they've simply become our preferred store. The tastings are fun, the selection well curated, and the prices very reasonable. The points system is nice perk as it doesn't take forever to accrue a reward so can redeem easily. read more

I purchased a bottle of Noughty Thomson & Scott dealcoholized red wine here after visiting a few liquor stores in the downtown area looking for alcohol-free wines. This was the only liquor store that carried any dealcoholized wine at all. So apparently liquor stores are not allowed to sell anything without alcohol in it. That's so dumb because where else would we go get alcohol free wine? I don't see any in the supermarkets either. Wholefoods has some alcohol free beer and Tost (which is surprisingly good). I drank a glass of the Noughty and I do feel a little bit different but not as much as other wines. I am very sensitive to alcohol. The wine had a nice taste. I would welcome a bigger selection of dealcoholized options to bring to dinner parties so I could have a glass of red wine like everyone else. read more

Not the right opportune for a visit. Simply did not meet expectations to heed the hope within my mind. I had hoped for Dolcetto, black red Italian wine grape widely grown in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy known for its brilliant color against lighting and medium body. My second hope was Calera Jensen Reed, Pinot Noir (Mount Harlan, California) 2009. However, the result attained was Anita & Hans Nittnaus Blaufrankisch (Burgenland, Austria) 2015 for $19. This wine shop appeared to be manned by a two person staff: one man was engrossed with arts and crafts cutting small placards signage with a old fashion cutting board while a woman scrambled to assist me with great deficiencies in her customer service skills and utterly lacking wine knowledge. Abandoning customers to fend for yourself without asking "what type of wine are you interested, what country of origin, what is your budget limitation, texture level, oak finish or steel, level of dryness? etc." gives the appearance of an stolid, apathetic and extreme callous with shunning in the sense of customer service. Where is the fire? Customers are esteem guests/clients and should be attended to while in your shop regardless what tasks engrossed in. I had to read the placard next to the bottle to attain information on this Austrian wine as it was fend for yourself. The staff does not describe what food pairings compliment the wine nor explained the country of origin, appellation, level of dryness, year of age as quality wine sommeliers would take the time and effort to explain and advise. This Austrian wine that I purchased is CRAP. There is a Yelp mobile check-in offer but why return as already DISPIRITED? Look away, look away nothing but excessive dismay!! GIGO NOPE, not Simply So! On a whim, I popped into this place for a bottle of wine. Asking for a recommendation, seeking a light red with a hint of sweetness around the 15 dollar mark, I was offered this wine as the attendant said it was fruity with a smooth finish. Great spot! I appreciate the descriptions of each wine, recommended cuisine to pair, and transparency about pricing. All whites are available chilled, which is really nice - especially when you have to grab a bottle last minute because your family made a surprise visit. I actually appreciate the smaller inventory; it is not too overwhelming and they have a ton of lesser known varietals that I never would have tried. Little hole in the wall wine shop (watch your head walking in if you're tall) down in FiDi. If you're rushing home and need a bottle, this is the go-to spot. While I have a wine store on my block up on UES, it doesn't have nearly the eclectic selection this place does. It's chock full of smaller, more independent labels. None of which I recognized... Oh, Simply Wine, how I love thee - let me count the ways: - The rewards program is lovely, considering the lush I am, and I am always excited to receive the voucher email. - In fact, speaking of the digital purchasing experience, it is top notch. Not only is every bottle available through the store interface along with profile and our loyalty status, but there is an intermediate stage between purchase and charge in case they are out of anything. - The owner cares deeply about their customers. Once, online, I was trying a new red because I was in a fall mood. I purchased one that it turns out wasn't toward my usual taste, so they sent two of that variety with the second being toward what I usually drink. - Finally, I love all of the tastings. The emails they send out are filled with local distilleries and vineyards and wine experts regularly coming in to educate the public on buying local and organic. My only con is that they stopped carrying Gertrude red blend - one of these days I am going to launch a public petition to get it back. But overall, I cannot recommend this place enough, especially to my neighbors in FiDi. read more

There is a reason why this place has a perfect 5 star rating on Yelp! You are not being fooled and look no further if you are looking for a neighborhood wine shop. I recently moved to the area and I am only a little ashamed to admit that my first yelp search once I locked down an apartment was for a wine shop. This was number 1 on the list so off I went to check it out. You have to step down into a little basement area (watch your head and step!) to enter the store and mind you, it is quaint and very minimalistic (this was actually what I loved about it first). It doesn't overwhelm you with overflowing shelves of bottles and bottles of wine. Secondly, each wine has a place card in front of it describing the taste, origin, potential pairings and price. I thought this was ingenious! The worker was also super helpful in making recommendations and I was in and out with one red and one white within a matter of minutes. I loved the white he recommended based on my taste buds and preferences. Haven't tried the red yet but I'm sure I'll love it. So happy to have found this place and I will most definitely be a regular! Oh yeah, most bottles if not all are under 25$ and you also get 5$ off with a check-in on Yelp! Great neighborhood winery. They also sell spirits they make themselves (had free samples when i went in at 6pm and it was amazing.) Went in to get a wine for a friend's birthday with very little idea of what I wanted other than red. They were super friendly and pointed me to an absolutely delicious wine at a very reasonable price. The store is laid out so you can easily see what wines go with different things such as nuts, fish or cheese. Also, it's the small things but the bag they give you with the wine looks very elegant. Great descriptions of each wine, and the staff can usefully elaborate on all of them (big up to Corey). You'll find none of the usual suspects here, but all the pleasant surprises will make you want to come back for more adventures. There are liquor stores closer to our address but the app these guys have makes ordering from simply wine a no-brainer. Super fast and super friendly. Have made recommendations for us in the past and they have never steered is wrong. Once we ordered a bottle of wine that turned out to be out of stock. They called us immediately and offered an alternative. Although it was pricier than what we ordered, they gave us the new (and way better!) bottle at the same price.
