Not the right opportune for a visit. Simply did not meet expectations to heed the hope within my mind. I had hoped for Dolcetto, black red Italian wine grape widely grown in the Piedmont region of northwest Italy known for its brilliant color against lighting and medium body. My second hope was Calera Jensen Reed, Pinot Noir (Mount Harlan, California) 2009. However, the result attained was Anita & Hans Nittnaus Blaufrankisch (Burgenland, Austria) 2015 for $19. This wine shop appeared to be manned by a two person staff: one man was engrossed with arts and crafts cutting small placards signage with a old fashion cutting board while a woman scrambled to assist me with great deficiencies in her customer service skills and utterly lacking wine knowledge. Abandoning customers to fend for yourself without asking "what type of wine are you interested, what country of origin, what is your budget limitation, texture level, oak finish or steel, level of dryness? etc." gives the appearance of an stolid, apathetic and extreme callous with shunning in the sense of customer service. Where is the fire? Customers are esteem guests/clients and should be attended to while in your shop regardless what tasks engrossed in. I had to read the placard next to the bottle to attain information on this Austrian wine as it was fend for yourself. The staff does not describe what food pairings compliment the wine nor explained the country of origin, appellation, level of dryness, year of age as quality wine sommeliers would take the time and effort to explain and advise. This Austrian wine that I purchased is CRAP. There is a Yelp mobile check-in offer but why return as already DISPIRITED? Look away, look away nothing but excessive dismay!! GIGO NOPE, not Simply So! How can wine connoisseurs refine your palate to taste, taste, taste? Swirl and sniff. Dispirited.

A Pinot Noir, Oregon grown, a most delightful treat to end the day. Fruity, smooth end.

On a whim, I popped into this place for a bottle of wine. Asking for a recommendation, seeking a light red with a hint of sweetness around the 15 dollar mark, I was offered this wine as the attendant said it was fruity with a smooth finish. I never had a better red. I savored it, gratefully, looking out from the roof top of a local hotel. The night couldn't be more perfect.

Pretty decent spot. Had a bad experience at a liquor store around the corner, and came here. Breath of fresh air.

There are a decent number of wine shops in the FiDi area, but this one is the 2nd closest to the largest subway hub in the city. Despite that, I've never seen the place crowded. Maybe it's because their prices ARE a little high. Or maybe it's because of their customer service. They're not exactly friendly, which goes a long way. They greet you as soon as you come in, but it's in a way that makes you feel watched or rushed. I usually ignore that and just ask them to let me browse until I have a question. That usually works. But it's too bad they aren't as assertive with pan handlers & the like. I stopped into the shop yesterday looking for a bottle of wine to pair with dinner. Shortly after I entered, a guy stumbled in off the street, asking me for money for liquor. He was talking loudly & using the N word a LOT. Did they say one word to him? No. Not until he walked up to the counter and addressed the woman there face to face, asking for booze. Even then, she wasn't as assertive with him as she's been with me over taking whatever wine she's chosen. To make matters worse, there was a male employee in the store who stood several yards away, just watching. I told this desperate beggar who was told me that HE HAD A KNIFE & had just been in a physical altercation with someone, that I had no cash. He responded that I could just put it on my credit card. The staff said nothing in response to that. I had already chosen my first wine & had placed it on the counter for purchase. But now this beggar was hanging out there. I heard the woman passively mutter something about preferring him to do his business outside. But the male employee just stood there watching. I turned to the male employee & asked, "You're OK with this?" He just shrugged. But the beggar loudly stated, "SHE'S OK WITH THIS!" and laughed. So I told the male employee, "Since you won't ask him to leave, I'll leave." I then walked out empty-handed & made my way south to Simply Wine on Liberty Street, where the worst thing that happens there might be an occasional puppy fart. It was out of my way, but so worth it. Their selection & service rock. I have worked with and around alcohol for many years, including my time as a bartender. If you can't control drunks & people begging for booze, if you can't protect or at least show concern for the safety & comfort of your paying customers, you're in the wrong business. This place won't be getting any more of mine.

For a bottle of wine $20 or under it's fine. Once I had a last minute birthday request from my husband for "a little bottle of Johnny Walker Blue". I definitely paid the sucker price for the last minute request, and I know where to get is in Brooklyn for a lot cheaper. But since I was in that predicament, I opted to get the special Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon bottle for $20 extra... which is a work of art and absolutely made my husband's night and he will be talking about for years and years. They do have some special and rare bottles that make for great gifts, but if you have more time to do your research even the rare bottles can be found elsewhere where for significantly cheaper. Oh well, it is what it is. Say, that bottle did not last through the night but at least it was genuinely appreciated with good friends. This liquor store is better than others in the neighborhood, I am glad that they exist.
