Alex helped me pick out the perfect Malbec! I was in the city, heading back home after a whole half of a day's worth of kid's birthday parties, all over town. I had another evening adult party to attend and wanted to make sure that I didn't arrive empty-handled. Luckily, we parked on the same block as Rosetta Wines. The entrance is hidden beneath the scaffolding but definitely stuck out, with the bright salmon coloured Vespa in the window. By the name, you know they mostly carry wines but they do have some spirits behind the counter. I was looking for something specific, a Spanish or Argentinian vino. Alex helped. He was very knowledgeable and asked all of the right questions. In the end, I opted for a modestly priced medium bodied malbec. I don't buy alcohol often, but when I do, I love to come to Rosetta Wines. The woman who works here is SO knowledgeable it's impressive. I asked yesterday for recommendations on which rosé to get and she knew where each wine was from, what all of the flavor notes were for each, and because of that it made it super easy to decide which wine to get. She's been spot on every time. I've asked in the past what to pair a blood orange-flavored gin with, and she gave me a fantastic cocktail idea. On top of being very helpful, her and the other associates are also really nice, so I like coming here to support them. There is a neighborhood discount if you live in the area which is nice. Minus one star for 1. the store layout and 2. the liquor selection. If the store has quite a few people browsing, it can get hard to move around because the aisles are really narrow. It's primarily a wine shop so it's understandable their focus is not the liquor selection. read more

I haven't been here for a while, but I walked by and said why not. I asked the sales clerk for assistance with South African wines, he didn't seem to know what Pinotage was or Chenin Blanc. I continued browsing other sections, then I asked him for Falanghina and he looked clueless and said they didn't carry it, the sales woman stepped in and walked me through the italian section, she recommended two wines and I left the store with 3 delicious wines instead of empty handed. One of the priciest wine stores I have gone into. Extremely expensive just comparing to other wine shops within a couple blocks. $75 for a bottle of Veuve Clicquot? You can get bottles of a Veuve starting at $42. If you have the time just take the 4-5 from Wall Street to Union Square and go to Trader Joe's Wine Shop. Much better choices and prices. (And Veuve is $41.99 as a price comparison). Tip: Use Vivino app to check wine prices. You can easily scan a wine label and it'll pop up with the average price and reviews. read more

I am a very loyal customer of your store, and the woman associate (who claimed she was the manager) was extremely rude. I have a pretty heavy arm and so when I closed the door of the wine fridge, it opened back up. Your associate made a fuss about it, telling me it's the second time that's happened. I wouldn't just leave the door open, so it was obviously an accident, and it was very unnecessary to keep saying "SECOND TIME!"repeatedly. Extremely disappointed. read more

I live near Rosetta and it is frequently a convenient stop based on their hours and location. However, the wines can be considerably pricier than other wine merchants in the city (with one chardonnay I compared was $90 at Rosetta and $60 at other merchants in the city; for Red Newt (a NY wine) it was $24 compared to $15-16 at other retailers). You're paying mostly for location and convenience, so do not expect to find a real bargain. I've also recently become an insufferable "wine person," so I ask to try specific varietals or certain regions. When I asked about a Gewurztraminer, preferably from Alsace, I was asked what "an Alsace" was. Needless to say the conversation didn't go too much farther. There are refrigerated wines offered as well (whites, champagnes, etc.). However, when I bought two whites from the rack that the clerk thoughtfully asked to replace from the fridge, my pinot blanc was replaced with a riesling (which I did not discover until I was home). I'm not sure if there is a significant price differential, but I'd wanted to try that pinot blanc. Maybe one day. All in all, this is price, convenience, and alcohol. read more

Good selection of wines. There were a lot to choose from and it was pretty well organized. I enjoyed drinking malbec wines in the past, and not being able to recognize any of the wines, I decided to ask the store owner which one he would recommend. He ended up pointing at all of the malbec and said this is good for each one. I was pretty disappointed at the information that he provided. He basically told me what I already knew. Sadly, this will be the last time I step into this establishment. Paying nearly $90 for a bottle of Veuve Clicquot when a while back before COVID-19 it was under $60. I understand that Rosetta Wines is expensive because of the location and nothing else but the real issue that caught me off guard beside the increase in price was when I asked the clerk when did it go up in price. The clerk stood there and argued over 5x that it's been that price forever and that a cheaper priced bottle is in the Midtown/Uptown area. Not to start an argument I said that the statement was not accurate and the clerk still stood there and stated it was always that price. For a clerk to feel they have to defend a lie is acceptable especially during these times OR maybe this is the new norm. Rosetta Wines, I may only be one customer that you lost but the integrity would be my bigger concern especially when you have a clientele that lives next door and the convenience is not worth the disrespect. read more

Had an A-OK experience here. It was a frigid night and a coworker and I wanted to grab a few bottles of wine to go with dinner. We stopped in here, and they had a solid selection and decent prices. The first staff member asked us if we needed help and was really nice. when we went to check out, though, it was a bit weird. We waited a really long time before we were acknowledged, and then were not addressed at all as we were rung out. The man cashing us out seemed really annoyed to have to do so, because he was in the middle of doing inventory or something. He didn't greet us, thank us, say anything at all to us. This is a decent neighborhood winery. I used to come here a lot for my wines but I recently had a really unpleasant interaction with one of the workers (perhaps the owner?). I felt that he was trying to start an argument over alcohol by lecturing me in a very condescending tone, like I was some kind of inept child. Look, I'm sure he does have more objective experience and knowledge of liquors than I do, but one rule of customer service is to not treat and lecture your customers like you think they're idiots. Even if you think the customer doesn't know as much as you when it comes to a certain topic, don't scoff at them and insult their intelligence. We went into this establishment for the wine tasting and to purchase wine from Belle Glos vineyard. Although the sign states the tasting is from 6-9, when we arrived at 7 we were informed that the next tasting is tomorrow. I recommended that they remove the large sign out front. The Rosetta Stone helped mankind decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics. The staff at Rosetta Wines won't help you decipher a French wine label. These are unhelpful people. And the prices are very high even for the Financial District. I guess they survive because of convenience and the Wall Streeters who don't care about price. Don't go here. Instead go to Downtown Cellars at Liberty/Nassau, La Petite Cave at Maiden/Gold or California Wine Merchants on Bridge between Whitehall/Broadway. They don't honor their Yelp discounts. Came in today to buy a specific champagne for a friend's birthday. Price was about $100, higher here than many other liquor stores. Same bottle was roughly $75 at Astor Wines and Spirits. Thought with the Yelp discount, it would make purchasing the wine here easier, since it's nice to patronize local merchants. I checked in at Yelp and showed the man at the register the Yelp coupon. He said sorry, they can't honor the coupon for the specific bottle...which is marked up way HIGHER than their competitor's. I've been here many times during the day when I'm rushed. Last night I had time to browse and chat with the poeple at Rosetta. They know their stuff and they are ultra-friendly. I got to taste some spirits which has a tendency to make me come back. Tasted Colorado Bourbon and then a Ginger liquor. The ginger liquor was made in Brooklyn by Barrow. What a life saver!! Right around the corner and stays open relatively late considering this neighborhood doesn't have many stores that stay open past 7 or 8. I love this place. Everyone needs a good liquor store, and this place is really there for the FiDi people. It's open late, it's well-staffed, it's clean, organized and always has music playing. On weekends, it's almost like you're walking into a little pre-game session, because there are always people hanging out, tasting wine at one of the counters, just having a good time. I really like the people who work there too - it's a diverse bunch, and they're really on point in terms of customer service. I get complimented on what I'm wearing almost every time I go in there and while I'm sure it's part of the store's sales plan, I don't even care. It's awesome. Who doesn't love feeling like they're a valued, attractive customer??!! Oh, and to top it all off, I recently found out that locals get a discount!!! I'm in love. Why the hell didn't anyone tell me that earlier though?? The only reason I dock a star from this awesome liquor store is because they don't sell any of the uhm..lower end alcohols. It has a good selection wines - some standards available everywhere and also some unusual, harder to find wines like Hentley Park Shiraz. Its a convenient location and an attractive, clean store. The staff are helpful, if not always well-informed. The big problem is the prices, which are about 40% higher than typical "Manhattan prices."
