I work by this wine shop and I've definitely bought many last minute bottles of wine from this store. It's over priced as you would expect from the proximity to Times Square. For a bottle of wine $20 or under it's fine. Once I had a last minute birthday request from my husband for "a little bottle of Johnny Walker Blue". I definitely paid the sucker price for the last minute request, and I know where to get is in Brooklyn for a lot cheaper. But since I was in that predicament, I opted to get the special Chinese New Year, Year of the Dragon bottle for $20 extra... which is a work of art and absolutely made my husband's night and he will be talking about for years and years. They do have some special and rare bottles that make for great gifts, but if you have more time to do your research even the rare bottles can be found elsewhere where for significantly cheaper. Oh well, it is what it is. Say, that bottle did not last through the night but at least it was genuinely appreciated with good friends. Very, very overpriced. 90.00 for a 45.00 bottle of Tequila. Definitely taking advantage of tourists. Also, they bill your credit card as "automotive expenses". Definitely not shady at all. read more

I never ordered from Midtown Wines, but I will do it again. My company has events frequently in New York and we originally needed a place to deliver, but after some no-shows, we decided to just pick up. Their online ordering system is very easy and their prices are fair. The service is very friendly as well. One of the staff members offered to carry my seven bottles of wine down five blocks for me. I was able to manage the box OK, but it was a very gracious offer considering how hot it was today. Thank you, midtown wines, and I'll be back! read more

Had a gift sent to a nearby theater, and after trying fruitlessly with a few other shops to deliver with a gift card and bag, they answered the call. I have not yet heard from the recipient, but their online checkout service was simple, and Benim went above and beyond to make sure there was a gift bag and it went to the proper door, even agreeing to call me once it was delivered. They are very friendly and knowledgeable and the prices for white wine are reasonable if you know what to buy. I found my new favorite Argentinean white wine for $13.99 and it's BOMB!!! OK service, the person who served me was helpful. Very good selection for some beverages such as Wines. Others types, such as Scotch, only fair. With that said, they sell some very good, reasonably priced, wines. I've purchased 2 outstanding Pinot Noir's. Midtown 38 Wines has a well designed mobile device app. read more

one of the workers try to scam me into giving him $5 for taking a picture of the wine. i have been to countless numbers of liquor store and have never been treated with this sort of rudeness. I was impressed. This is a new store so not all the staff may be up to par; but I was assisted by the manager (owner?). today who was well-spoken and helpful. We were discussing vermouths and spirits. I did not look over the wine selection. This store is on my way home walking to NY Penn so I will be back to look thru more of the spirits. The only plus was that they were open later than the other liquor stores. They were not helpful nor welcoming, and the prices were not particularly attractive. To top it all off, they didn't double bag so the bag broke and I had to carry two bottles of wine with me on the subway. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. TERRIBLE customer service. Terrible. They are liars and rude and don't mind ganging up on the customer to save their own asses. I used to like this store a lot, I order a couple of bottles form them at least once a month--always my go to for wines. Whenever I would call I would tell them what I am looking for and they would hang up to find me wine then call me back with what they found and the price and I would say yes or no then. Last time I called I told them what I was looking for and they hung up and I expected a call but instead the delivery boy came with the wines, I did not approve the wine or cost. I was ordering the wine for a work event so it needs to be approved. When I went to get the wine from the delivery boy I asked if the wine was not approved by my boss then if I could return it. I asked him this twice and he told me twice I could return it. I went to the store to return the bottles of wine and I was told I was not able to return it. When I told them the situation the called the delivery boy out and they still said I couldn't return it. I am a young girl in my 20s, I had three grown men telling me how I was wrong and they could not help me--all three told me I was wrong. I have never had anyone be so rude to me before nor have I ever felt so ganged up on. I called later to speak to the owner/boss and was told he would be in at 4. I was scared to call them back to talk to their boss because of how rude they were to me, I have never had so much anxiety to call a store before. But I called at 4 and was told he was not in and told me to call the next day at 2. I asked for the mans name who answered the phone and he refused to give me his name. I called the next day at 2 and was asked who was calling and then was told they need to know who is calling first and then lied to me telling me the boss was not in. There was more that happened but it is too my to type. I will not shop here again. read more

Well this spot was open and they have such a large selection! The cashier is very kind and helps out whenever you have questions. They're located not too far from Bryant Park. I was quickly able to find the tequila I was looking for but the Wine was a a bit more challenging. Thankfully their staff was attentive and asked me what I was looking for. For midtown this spot has a huge inventory of wine. Their prices are higher than they should be though i.e Alamos Malbec is usually $9/$10 and it was $17 here. I'll only come back if I really need to, but if you're in a pinch and need a bottle in midtown id come here. read more

Awful. The people that work in there speak barely any English. Let alone have any wine knowledge. I went in one night and asked for a Meritage, they looked at me like I was from another planet. If you work in a wine shop you should know what a Meritage is. I am pretty easy going and I work in the wine industry so I know a good wine store when I see one and I know when the staff is knowledgable. These people are not. No idea. Plus they keep wines right under the ceiling. High shelves, yes that looks cool but it is bad for wine and everybody should know that. It is hot up there and the wine will cook so do not be surprised if you get a bad bottle. on one occasion I asked for the owner to see if he could help me find something. I was told that he was busy in his office. Just the kind of help you want. No help. Another time I went in there to buy a bottle of Scotch and the owner happened to be there, or the manager, so I said that his price was high and he said I could go somewhere else where it costs less. Honestly, he was arrogant and condescending. I would never buy anything there not even a corkscrew. But then again, maybe he was not the owner, but does that matter? Just awful. But they have a large screen TV so if you are out and want to catch the end of the Giants game, sure go there but do not buy from them. Rude and ignorant. read more

i notice more and more booze shops opening around the garment district and this liquor shop on 38th st off 7th ave is a ok in my book . i am no expert on booze as being a non drinker but i have what i need written done (wine ) and i did call in advance so it's a simple task before my friends stop by for a short visit .the interior is a well organized clean long path of built in wall shelves on both sides of the walls neatly filled with every type of liquor , wine , spirits , etc . the nice shining dark wood floors give us a clear path front , center and rear with some middle shelves with more assorted bottles , some international beer in fridge i think . customer service gets thumbs up for letting me roam around and finding what i needed quickly with prices that are not that bad for this part of manhattan . if you are giving a bottle for a gift they sell plenty of gift bottle bags as well . midtown 38 wines gets 4.5 stars on my yelp meter . read more
