What should of been a smooth transaction turned to me sitting and waiting on a pretentious lady jumping in front of everyone and taking forever. What upsets me more is that one man is sitting in the back, not helpful at all and the other just going along with the crazy lady because she obviously was a regular. I didn't like the service and bought the smallest bottle on On The Rocks so I had something for later but the free bottle isn't worth your dignity. A pretty good place to buy things to get drunk. Dante's Cellar is an independently owned liquor store in Midtown East. It has pretty decent prices. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable. There's lots of popular brands and obscure too. Good stuff here. It has hard liquor of all kinds. There's also a large wine selection. Many popular brands. Prices are okay. It's not that bad. They're comparable to most competitors in the area with some items a bit cheaper then you can find elsewhere in Manhattan. It's about $35 after tax for a large bottle of Jameson. The wines are fairly priced. If you check in you get a gift. It's a bottle of Prosecco. This makes it even more worth going to. read more

Cool spot to grab a bottle of wine if you're in the neighborhood. I wouldn't make an extra trip out here, but they have a nice selection with decent prices. This wasn't my first time at Dante's Cellar, but will definitely be my last. I specifically went looking to purchase High Noons -- I bought an individual pack of Passion Fruit and the new limited edition pack of the, "Pool Flavors." When I went to check out the man seemed to be confused as to what to charge me because there was no price on the box so he separately charged me for each high noon INDIVIDUALLY. When the total came out to ~55 dollars, I knew something was wrong. I proceeded to look up how much the average cost for the new limited edition pack is and show him and he told me to, "go and purchase it from there." I came here purely bc of the Yelp check in offer but with the intention of actually picking up a couple of bottles. It turned out to be a cute little wine shop but with bad customer service. However when we walked in we weren't greeted and it took a few minutes of us perusing the shelves and another patron to walk in (who was welcomed and asked if she needed assistance) before anyone paid us mind. One employee was up and still didn't offer us help and the other was behind the cashier and yelled down to us to let him know if we needed help. I approached the counter and said I wanted a dry white wine. He recommended the second most expedience bottle of white wine, again without getting up and just told me the area I would find it. Awesome little liquor store located near our hotel. NYC isn't like California where you can buy hard alcohol at CVS or practically anywhere... So you actually have to go to a liquor store to buy hard booze. And we needed some hard alcohol and stumbled into this liquor store, it was the closet to our hotel. Once you enter the store it's really nice. Great selection of wine and hard alcohol. And competitive pricing too. Also if you check in you get a complimentary small bottle of prosecco. Great customer service as well. The guy was super friendly. Love their promotion on the prosecco as well. We ended up getting Titos for about $14. When my colleagues and I were recently in need of a GOOD bottle of wine for a colleague that is leaving our firm, we quickly pulled up the Yelp app to see what was nearby. The first store we called did not have what we were looking for but the nice gentleman at Dante's encouraged us to stop by and he would show us something even better. Sure enough, he remembered our phone call when we arrived. He handed us what was voted the 8th best bottle of wine from Wine Enthusiast in 2017 and we were immediately sold. The bottle was $92 when all was said and done but we know it will make our colleague very happy. Along with the check-in we received a small bottle of prosecco, which was a nice touch. Next time I visit I will explore the store some more since the bottle we were given was right in the front. Friendly staff, prices on par with the rest of the city, and they know everything there is to know about wine. I recommend Dante's Cellar for all your wine needs. read more

If I hadn't read all of the five star reviews on Yelp before visiting Dante's Cellar, I would have still given it the same rating but not have been so disappointed in my experience. Don't get me wrong, they are a decent store. A bit on the smaller side but they have a few good wines and I was able to find Clio, which is a Monastrell I really love and always recommend. But the reviews left me wondering if there was a back room, or something I was missing here. Service was more or less nonexistent, there was no section for Spanish wines (or many other regions as well) and they were grouped in with Chile. I guess other South American wines were grouped in there too since someone else came in looking for an Argentinian wine and was sent there. The organization of the store wasn't that great and I found a lot of the wines were just all over the place. But there are a few decent bottles to be found (the Clio!) if you know where to look. read more

Dante's Cellar was a real life saver this weekend! I was tasked with tracking down a particular whiskey brand that didn't seem to be anywhere around, but Dante's had a bottle, so props on the big selection! I called and learned it was the last one they had in stock, and Jay generously agreed to stow it for me until I could come in later that night. When I got there, the store was bright and clean, and looked really spacious. I wish I'd had more time to look around! I came to Dante's Cellar to pick up alcohol for a party and being newly 21, I was overwhelmed with the options. I was picking up a bottle of wine, I asked the owner to recommend a light, sweet (but not overly sweet) wine, red or white, that isn't dry. He recommended that I try Riesling wine. Now, not knowing much about it, I told him he had to help me out with brands. He originally recommended Franz Hirtzberger Austrian Riesling (which is about $40) but I explained to him that I was a broke college student who was hoping to spend less than $20 on a bottle of wine. He then recommended Fritz De Katz Riesling ($10) Relax ($13). He told me how he enjoys Relax because its not excessively sweet, yet has a fruity taste. I've never had such good insights and customer service as I have had here, at a liquor store. And a quick side note- Relax is my new favorite wine hands down! The prices were very reasonable for midtown NYC and the wine selection was curated without being limiting. The staff was so helpful on a busy New Years Eve Sunday afternoon that I received one-on-one attention for my entire visit. The salesperson patiently answered all of my amateur questions and worked to understand my taste preferences before making recommendations (instead of just pulling the most expensive bottle in the category or at the top of my price range). I was on a mission to get a few bottles of yamazaki 18 yrs, rare Japanese whiskey. Went into Dante Friday afternoon and saw the bottle that I was looking for. Asked the clerk how much is the bottle he said $500. So I told the clerk I might be back later for it since it's for my friend and I. Later Friday evening, I went back to purchase the bottle for $500, the new clerk told me it is $599. So I didn't like the fact that they raised the price. This clerk looked into the system and told me the price. Went back to hotel and confirmed it with my friend to get it for $599. So I returned to Dante Saturday morning to purchase the bottle for $599. The new clerk now told me the bottle is $699. So in the end wth with th change in price for all three visit I encountered???? I had a great experience in Lexington Wine & Whiskey. Unfortunately I did not get the guy's name who helped me. He was extremely helpful and took his time with me and seemed genuinely interested in helping me to get what I needed. I was purchasing two dozen bottles of wine for a company cocktail party, and he gave me great suggestions on what to buy for under $15. They have a remarkable selection of wines under $20, and even under $15. After I left I found out that I could not have red wine at the cocktail party because the company owner was concerned about staining the carpet. So I went back to Lex Wine with my case of red wine asking if I could exchange it. He was happy to do it, and didn't even charge me for the $1 difference in cost per bottle. read more

I have had multiple great experiences on my trips to Lexington Wine & Whiskey, that I thought it needed to finally get a review. They've always been super helpful and welcoming the moment you walk in the door, and know their stuff. It's refreshing to find a wine store in the city where the staff is very engaging but also very knowledgeable about what's on their shelves. Their wine section is fantastic, with a huge selection of Burgundy and Bordeaux. I always like trying new things and have yet to try a recommendation from Jay that didn't live up to it's hype.
