After I ordered I got a text message from someone at the shop that the size dress I selected was no longer in stock but they had one in a size up. I thought... 'can always have my tailor take it in'. A few days later my order arrives in Indianapolis (they were very quick to ship out) and the dress fits like a glove! Maybe a small take in at the bust but honestly this inventory snafu was a blessing. Everything about ordering was easy and they always have nice sales (been eyeing things for a half year now). Will purchase from again because they carry designers I like and they take pictures on models that are real people. Very easy to imagine how an outfit would look on me.

Really disappointing experience.

I browsed around for a while to see if someone would eventually ask if I needed help, but no one did. There were two white women shopping in the store, and I noticed the employees were actively assisting them. I'm African American, and I was standing nearby browsing on my own. There was also another gentleman who was assisting one of the customers, and at no point did anyone step away for even a moment to acknowledge me or ask if I needed help. I understand employees may be helping other customers, but a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" goes a long way. As a African American customer, being the only person in the store who wasn't acknowledged while white customers were being assisted made me uncomfortable and left me questioning why I was treated differently. I ultimately left without purchasing anything. Customer service and making every customer feel welcome matters, and unfortunately, I did not feel welcomed during my visit.

I was in twice this week, once to peruse and once to come back to pick up the item I chose (a super-cute diaphanous print top I thought would be great for an upcoming trip). The proprietress, Erin, was in both times and remembered me from my previous purchases and a question I asked on the store's Facebook page about some Yosi Samra flats. The boutique is small, but decorated very prettily and is comfortable for shopping. I felt fine browsing and not buying (but of course, I had to return). The inventory was a little "picked over," according to the owner, but I found quite a few things I wanted. The items are definitely on trend (lots of pretty tangerine-colored items this season!), but not fashion-victim-y, and although the store definitely caters to a younger crowd, I'm in my early 40s, and I found quite a few things I thought were appropriate for me. She also carries cute accessories. Everything is VERY reasonably priced, more expensive than Forever 21, but a lot less than Anthropologie. My cute top was $42, and the Yosi Samra flats I love are less than $70, I think. I can see this store doing very well with people who want to add a little something to their wardrobe with zing and verve, but don't want to spend scads of money on the latest fashion. The owner, Robert Forsythe made a point to introduce himself and talk to us for a few minutes. He could not have been more pleasant. There is no way he would recognize me. I am not someone that should be known and honestly doubt I have been in his store since high school. We found a few items for my wife. The staff wrapped them and chatted with us until our items were ready. We were happy to give them our business. To point out how long Mr Forsythe has been providing quality service, I will relay a story I distinctly remember from my mom. I doubt he would remember the story but 30 years ago my mom was shopping for me before I went to college. I remember her coming in quite proud of her efforts. She had been struggling to find me ties for a new suit. She went in Forsythe's (different location back then). Mr Forsythe had helped her. She found several she liked but took particular interest in the tie he was wearing. As she was checking out, he took his tie off and gave it to her as an appreciation of her business. In my opinion, that is going beyond what is required or expected.

While that image no longer exists in Neiman Marcus, be assured you can find it at B Barnett. Customers are known by name and offered refreshments--in real glasses no less! As patrons entered they were greeted by name, and even asked how their specific vacatiosn went as they purchased their $500 body creams. At B Barnett it's not just about the expensive goods, it's about a level of servcie that simply doesn't exist anymore--not in this decade anyway.
