They serve big scoops of Kawartha Diary with almost all the flavours made. For mini put, there are two courses to try; Shipwreck or the logging theme. Shipwreck is slightly more challenging. Somehow my kids got the par for the course which is labelled on a sign at each hole. They now think they're big shots and want to go pro, meanwhile my ball enjoyed the water features in the Shipwreck course. The batting cages are self explanatory. Sign at each cage tells you what to expect from ball type to speed level. One token gets 15 pitches, just get the 5 special pricing, it doesn't expire. Bring your own helmet and bat as the ones supplied may not be the greatest. This area is either empty or packed with teams going there to meet up and waiting for a certain pitch. It would be better if they could adjust cages depending on needs of the group. Otherwise the wait can be long.

The antipasto, which is usually my least favorite dish, was really good. The beef entree was amazing. It was cooked perfectly medium on the inside with the same color pink throughout. The staff were courteous and accommodating. One person at our table asked for the personal caesar salad without bacon since the shared salad had bacon and we pretty much received another shared salad. Towards the end of the evening, the staff were clearing off tables while the banquet was winding down. But they were a little too quick to clear the tables that they took away someone's photo booth photos before those people came back to the table to claim their photos. The patience in answering multiple emails, questions and follow up questions is how I knew my experience here would be good. The good - The alcoholic drink options were okay, the variety wasn't large but the cocktails and mocktails were good. Food was good too. The karaoke was a bit confusing to navigate at first but we got the hang of it. There's something for everyone here and coming in a large group definitely made it worth it.

Hawk Ridge holds the distinction of being the nicest golf course in Orillia. As a result of being a…read morebig fish in a microscopic pond, the staff are generally pretty high on their horses and seem to think that they work at Glen Abbey. The course is 45 holes, which might make you wonder whether Orillia's population could possibly support that many holes. The answer appears to be that it can't, as it's almost always dead. You can get a tee time in the middle of summer at 10 am on a Saturday by calling the day before if you are so inclined. They have an 18 hole course called "Meadow-Nest", another 18 called "Timber-Ridge" and a par 3 called "Hawk's Island". The Timber-Ridge is terrible. The Timber portion could be nice but it is always soaking wet so the grass doesn't grow properly and the Ridge aspect is just really boring. Everyone knows that Timber-Ridge sucks so they are constantly offering deals like $45 for 18 and a cart, while Meadow-Nest would cost more like $80 for the same thing. The par 3, like any par 3, is a waste of your time. The Meadow-Nest is really quite nice. The Meadow portion is pretty long and fairly open, while the Nest is more treed and shorter. The entire course has a creek running back and forth that makes it more difficult than it would be otherwise. The driving range is also really good. It has real grass to hit from, instead of mats, and it is deep and wide so there is no need for netting or anything. They also serve good food and have a lot of options with a gazeebo at the turn, a small restaurant that includes a nice patio and a large space that usually hosts weddings and things of that nature.

The fantastic golf course is run by former colleagues of mine and we had arranged an outing for a few groups. The course is immaculately groomed, with generous undulating fairways. The rough is fairly forgiving but if your ball goes into the dense brush forget about looking for it. It's very dense! Trees aren't much of a problem on this course, except for the finishing holes. Water comes into play on only two holes. Kudos to the staff for keeping the course in such great condition. The driving range is a modest setup, with several flags as targets. The distances are shown on a sign in the tee area. There is also a club washer. Golf carts are electric so they're quiet, and especially nice on this really hot day. They even have a cooler attached to keep you beverages cool. And USB ports to keep your devices charged! There was a group of ladies playing a mini tournament ahead of us. They were walking the course. Good for them! Several of us stuck around for a bite and some drinks on their large patio overlooking the 10th hole. The food was decent but the wait time was very long and the execution could have been much better. Proper French fries would have been preferred over the potato chips or home fries. One carrot stick with my wings? Really??? This needs to be improved. Some of our group had reservations at the resort. Despite the hot weather, everybody enjoyed the day and loved the golf course. I'm sure we'll be back!

The Nest is integrated with a bird conservation within the course which makes for beautiful mornings. The customer service beats any competition by a mile with the nicest people greeting and taking care of your every need. This year Peter and Bryan have levelled up the food and kitchen as well as made for entertaining mens league on Thursday evenings. I've golfed almost every course nearby and will continue to spend my days practicing and making bad golf shots here.

Food was pretty good and has a little sports bar which was great during the World Cup. No mini fridge or safe in the room and no deadbolt on the door from the inside......essentials in my opinion. There was a balcony in our room but too cold to go out. Nice view of the sunset in the evening. It was very noisy as we could here people outside our room...as if they were in our room There are so many restaurants close by and we went skiing at a club about 25 minutes away.
