The owner was so rude and offensive. 4 of us showed up (2 couples) 55 minutes before closing but he would not speak to us. We would walk up to him and speak in a polite manner but he totally ignored us. When he finally responded it was to tell us to "suck his cxck" He accused us of stealing and assault. He also took pictures of our license plates. Told us we would spend the night in jail. Needless to say we will never go back there again. read more

This is a great place for beginners and anyone looking for some practice. There are 2 areas for the driving range; mats and grass. There are also 2 areas to practice putting and chipping. They have a great 9 hole course. As a beginner, I was nervous about going on a course, but it wasn't intimidating at all. Their golf pro and trainers are knowledgeable and encouraging. I took the Ladies course and there were a few women that took it last year and came back to improve their skills. I'll be back to practice...I really need it. :D read more

Owner here has serious mental problems. Flew into an expletive laced tirade because we showed up not knowing they were closed. No sign anywhere. Instead of saying, "Sorry guys, we're closed", he asked if people in this @$#& city knew how to read @&#$ English. I said "Pardon?" "We're @&#$ closed, can't you @&#$ read or @&#$ speak English?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Another older gentleman came in, was told they were @&#$ closed. He apologized and said he didn't see a closed sign. The nut turned to a girl working there and said "Another one who can't @&#$ read. @&#$ off and don't come back." This guy has serious issues and I recommend to never, ever go there. These guys are unbelievable. Yesterday, a drunk range attendant broke my friend's driver and pushed him around after accusing him of stealing a handful of range balls.....! In fact, he had just put them in his back to take them over to the practice green to do some chipping, because the range attendant had taken his bucket. Instead of asking what was going on, he was slurring racial insults at him, shoved him, and ripped the driver from his bag, and snapped it in half!!! A police report has been filed. read more

This driving range has some of the worst workers in all of Durham region working there. The first time I walked in with my son I walked up to the helpdesk area .. Saw a man and asked if he worked there... He looked at me and said 'no I just stand here at a golf course all day cause I have nothing else to do'.... Now if he smiled after he said that to show he was being sarcastic....I would have not thought much of it, But he had a stone face look on his face... It came across extremely rude. My son commented to me.. He asked why that man was so mean. The next time we went there I asked a question about birthday packages for my son... This time it was a young brunette female working there, she didn't know the answer so she told me to call back when the manager was there.... I said no problem, what is the managers name to ask for? .... She responds with 'I cannot give you his name'. I asked why.... She ignored me.... I asked why again .. and explained that when I call it will be nice to know who to ask for... She looked at me and says have a good day and walks away. What is the manager in witness protection or something? Why can't a paying customer get the first name of the person he's trying to contact about a general golf question? Short-fuse staff member (let's call him "Owner") accused my elderly uncle of stealing golf balls, threatened violence upon him, and told us to F*** Off. He also took photos and/or video of us and vehicle without asking permission (or at least offering why this was being done), which if you ask me is damned impolite. I would mention the poor maintenance and conditions of the grounds, equipment etc., but this is fairly irrelevant considering the above experience. Since zero stars is not an option, I will give the one mandatory star to the young woman who was working the range; she seemed hard-working at least... Otherwise, never again! read more

Having just moved back to North Oshawa, after living out of the area for years, I picked up my brand-new custom-made clubs & went to, what I thought would be, my new local range. Boy, was I wrong. The sign said "closed," but 15 people were still hitting balls; some of whom had only just started into their large buckets. I asked the attendant/owner if I could hit a small bucket while the others finished. His reply? "What, ya have a tournament in the morning, lady? You have to get some practice in?" I replied, "No. I just picked up my new, custom clubs, and wanted to try them out. I can be done a small bucket before they're finished." He said, "Well, it wouldn't be worth it to me, either way. I know you'll never be back." Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's really too bad this business has him as an owner, instead of his father. The service sure has gone downhill. I visited this driving range and as soon as I walked in the door I was greeted by a raging person behind the counter who was clearly upset about something or just grumpy in general about his life, either way no customer deserves to be greeted in this manner! He was cursing at some child out back and turned his anger towards me. It was the worst I have ever been treated as a paying customer, when I asked how much the 9 hole golf was he replied didn't u fuckin hear me and kicked me out, I would not bring my children here or ever go there again myself. Usually this place is packed and it was empty I can see why. Will not be returning that's for sure. Theres other driving ranges close by that I will be bringing my money to next time. Worst golf experience of my life visiting this range. I took literally two steps beyond the rope at the grass tee area to pull back a couple of balls that were sitting there. The range attendant ran over, yelling profanities and saying that I was stealing balls. He the picked up my driver which was on the ground and said "You're stealing from me so I'm stealing from you" and told me to leave. When I followed him to get my driver back, he said I was trespassing and told me he was calling the police. He took my photo with his phone despite my telling him that he did not have my permission to do so, and took a photo of my lisence plate as I was leaving. Clearly this attendant, who I believe may be the ,manager, has issues and no sense of customer service whatsoever. Do not go here! read more

It was my turn tonight to incur the wrath of the owner/operator of this driving range. I went with my wife to do a bucket of balls and while I was paying I asked what time they closed. He said we are open from 9 to 6. I then mentioned it would be good if they stayed open a little later. He sarcastically responded by saying when you have your own place you can set whatever hours you like. I then said there is no reason to be rude to me. He responded we are open all day and you can come then. I responded that this is a good thing to do in the evening after work. It was then that he said Ok here is your money back. I said no it's OK I want to hit balls. He said you are not hitting. He put my money on the counter. I took my money back, put the bucket of balls back and walked out to tell my wife we were leaving. He then popped his head out the back door and said "hey dummy, it's 6:30 so I am giving you a break". By that time I was kind of in shock so my wife and I just left. Had a very strange experience here. Walked in and asked what the price of a large bucket was. The man (presumably the owner?) said sarcastically "you're looking right at it". I thought that was odd...but I carried on. I pulled out my debit card and the man pointed to the ATM and just said "the ATM is right there". I was somewhat confused and responded "no debit?" This somehow angered him even more, to the point where he told me to leave. For a second I thought I was being punked. I asked him if that's the way he treats all his customers. This lead me to get into a bit of an argument with him, which carried on outside the cash area. He told me if I wouldn't leave that he would physically remove me (that definitely wasn't going to happen) He then proceeded to tell me I needed to see a psychiatrist and be prescribed some meds! Also started mocking what I was wearing. Such strange behaviour. There was a man standing to the side witnessing all this...so I walked over and asked him what the deal was...he just said "he gets set off very easily. I'd just leave if I were you". I don't want to say anything negative about the man as I believe he may have some serious issues that need to be addressed, and that isn't something to make light of. Having said that-i would not recommend anyone go here...especially with kids. As an alternative- there is a nice driving range at Harmony Creek golf course. Right off the 401 on Harmony exit. You'll have a much better experience there. Again- even though I was treated horribly here I'm not here to talk bad about the man I dealt with as I believe that the irrational anger that he was displaying was a sign of a larger mental health problem. I just want to make sure people who are thinking of going here know what they are in for. read more

I have no idea why people are so spiteful about this driving range....THE PEOPLE + DRIVING RANGES ARE AWESOME! Awesome service and awesome place. Albeit the kiosk to rent is a little underwhelming, it doesn't fall short of what is intended - a DRIVING RANGE! The price for the rentals are decent, as well as their free to rent clubs for left + right handers but as always - you can use your own set. The only thing that I might change would be debit/credit machine. Mind your business, act with decorum, and obey the range rules and you'll have a heck of a time. Will most definitely golf here again AND will most definitely recommend. read more

I went to this driving range to hit a few balls with some friends. However, when I got there, a miscommunication had me thinking that they had arrived before me, when they hadn't. I got out of the car to go look for them, looking around the parking lot and such to see if maybe they were sitting in the car. When I didn't find them, I went back to my car to text them so I could figure out what was up. As I was sitting in the car, the manager/owner/whatever he is came out and came up to my window and started questioning me about why I looked around and went back to my car. I thought this was pretty weird, but I told him about my situation and explained that my friends hadn't arrived yet, but that they should be here shortly. He then proceeded to say that I was trying to steal his car or something. I explained to him that, no, I wasn't going to steal his car, and that I was just waiting for my friends. My mom, who was dropping me off, also told him that I was just waiting for my friends so we could practice golf. He then proceeded to be extremely rude to her, saying that she was trying to make it a race issue, when she most definitely wasn't. Eventually, he went back to the shop, and I kept waiting for my friends. Soon, he came back, and told us that despite the fact that they supposedly closed at 8PM, and the fact that there were quite a few people still practicing, they were closing (it was around 6:30PM). My friends eventually arrived, and when we went to talk to them, they essentially told us to go away because "they were closed". The staff then proceeded to give my mom a hard time again. In the end, we went somewhere else, and we ended up losing quite a bit of playing time because this guy was paranoid about a 16-year-old sitting in the parking lot with his mom waiting for his friends. Pathetic owner/manager/whatever and pathetic staff. Will not be going back, and if you want to have a good time, I recommend you go literally anywhere else. read more

I wouldn't recommend Durham Driving Range in Whitby to my worst enemy. The man who works here is a Tyrant. Read on: My son and I decided this year that we would learn how to golf. My husband used to be an avid golfer and was quite good, but got busy with work, etc. and has not played in about 8 years. We all decided that we would start out at Durham Driving range as it is inexpensive, didn't look overly busy with people who are very good (thus not very intimidating), and they advertised that they were great for beginners. My husband did comment before we left that from his experience in previous years that he found the guy who worked there 'a little weird and slightly rude' but I thought nothing much of and so still figured it would be a good place to start. We started off on the first hole in the evening about 6 pm, and as we were close to finishing the hole, another couple approached the beginning of the course. We are of course quite slow as beginners, and so let them play through. Nobody else came to play after these two people so we took our time around the course, redid shots a number of times (my son is 11 so we spent a bit of time instructing and letting him do 'redos'--I will have to admit for myself too, as I am horrible and we were learning). In general I know you are not supposed to go back and redo a pile of holes when you have paid for one round but my husband said that when he used to play that, if nobody else was golfing and you did not hold anyone up, that most courses did not seem to mind if you lingered a bit, took your time, and if you have kids to let them redo things sometimes, as it was not hurting anybody. Given this, we took the liberty to have some 'redos'. We truly did not think at the time we were doing anything wrong. We were somewhere around the fifth or sixth hole when the people working there (a guy with grey hair, about 50, and a younger girl maybe late 20s) started looking like they were packing up around the club house. I thought perhaps we were closing soon and that we should pick it up, but my husband said that when he used to play that he would generally be allowed to play until the sun went down. The man eventually made his way over to a shed located on the hole we were playing, and stood there for quite a while as we completed the hole, pretending to be examining something. Once we finished the hole, he approached my husband, started getting nasty with him, and telling him that we were 'cheating', that we were redoing holes, that we were dishonest, etc. My husband was taken very off guard, and given that he was being suddenly attacked like this, unfortunately denied that we were redoing holes as I think he thought this might make the man calm down a bit. This unfortunately only made him more angry and told us we have to leave. I tried talking to him and explaining to him that my son and I were just learning and that it was a combination of us being very slow, letting the other couple go ahead of us, and yes, that we had done some apparently illegal practicing, but that we had no ill intentions, and that we just didn't know it was that bad of a thing to be doing. Of course as well, that we would not do it anymore. Every time I tried to get a sentence out, though, all he could do was interrupt me, tell me that we were liars and cheats, and that I needed to 'swear on my son's life' that we did not redo any holes. Had he listened he would have gotten a confession, an apology, and an explanation, but he wanted nothing of it, he just wanted to yell and point fingers. Another professional, if they were sticklers about the rules, would have approached us, let us know that this was a no-no, and asked us to please continue playing each hole once. At which point we would have apologized, continued playing each hole only once, felt a little humiliated, and come back to give them more business in the future (of course continuing to follow the rules). This person attacked us, asked us to leave without letting us say very much at all, and not only that, but the following really topped it all off: At a certain point of course we figured out it was not worth trying to explain anymore. We said we would leave, and were making our way to our vehicle but this man continued to follow us and harass us all the way to our vehicle telling us we were banned, still calling us cheaters, and telling our son that we were bad people and saying 'good luck with them as parents'. I have never been so horrified or surprised by someone. This is a person who is just a very angry person and will take something and make it an excuse to harass someone. We told him a number of times that we were horrified and never had any intention to come back and could he please stop harassing us, but he persisted until we had packed our clubs and left. DON'T EVER GO TO THIS DRIVING RANGE....unless you enjoy being thoroughly insulted and abused by a half drunk driving range staff person/owner! I went there recently in an early evening and the person behind the counter was half drunk. When I asked if I can get a basket of balls I got asked why I'm here...are you here to try new clubs or do you have a tournament tomorrow? I responded that I just want to hit some golf balls. Since I have not received a response after a few minutes I asked again if I can get a basket of balls. The person working (I only hope he wasn't the owner) screamed...you are a f%##ing immigrant, get out of here! I was just shocked and could not believe what he said. It is hard to believe that in this place young children attend golf camps and golf instruction is provided! I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE and NEITHER SHOULD YOU! read more

Warning. The "owner", if it is him has a real temper. My son took lessons last year from a great golf pro at Durham Golf and really enjoyed himself and we thought this was a great place to develop his golf. I took him back this weekend with a few friends who also play golf, to play 9 holes on a beautiful sunny day. They weren't allowed to go on their own (new rules this year for those under 16), so I agreed to walk around with them. As we waited for the first hole tee off, one of the boys picked up one of the many balls lying around near the putting green and put it in his pocket. The owner came running out of the "club house" blowing a horn of all things. He yelled and screamed at the boy (loud enough that everyone around could hear) and said "That's why we don't allow kids on our course alone". He immediately told him and the other boys to leave and never come back. I turned to this guy to tell him that I was with the boys and to explain what was going on. He turned to me and told me that I was a really bad parent and I had terrible parenting skills. There was no sense in reasoning with him as he was already on his way back inside. This man has some anger management problems of his own and needs to review the way he treats his customers. This boy shouldn't have taken the ball off the grass, but the"owner" completely over reacted. He could have come out and spoken to him and to me like a regular human being and a proper business owner. If he chose to have the boys leave for something so minor, that is his choice, but certainly this is a very poor example of who we would want our kids to grow up to be like. read more
