I tried to place an order for 7 different gormet baskets and was stunned at the poor service. On hold for over 15 minutes, with 5 minute interruptions from the operator who didn't know what was going on. Finally, when I requested to speak with the manager, she become testy and defensive. I'm from Kaukauna, so I've been dragging my heels about writing something for this place, given I haven't been home very much in the last four years I've been in college. But I went home this weekend and showed my significant other around the area and this place was mandatory. There are two reasons to come here; I don't know why they bother with all the little knick-knacks and do-dads, but don't bother. Just do yourself a favor and go straight for the cheeses and the fudge. I'm sad they don't have Pavarro (it's a nutty-flavored, Dutch cheese), but it's hard to stay sad when they've got some of the best flavored cheddar and other types available. And the fudge. The cheese curds here were awesome! And what a great thing that they were frozen so they survived the plane ride back to Atlanta. I took a bunch of cheese back with me - including the smoked string cheese, sharp cheddar for a friend and the cute little piece of cheddar that was in the shape of a cupcake. If you haven't already tried it, I highly recommend their take and bake pizza's Made right on the spot to your specifications. Or if you don't have time to wait for that, they have a nice selection in their display case. And if you want to save an additional 10%, there are some frozen pizza's available in the freezer. Sometimes if they have the kind I'm looking for, I will just opt for that instead, since I take it home to keep in the freezer anyway, just to have it on hand. The sauce is perfect. Not too much of it, and not too spicy. And the cheese combination is great. MMMMmmmm.....makes me want to go get one right now! Also don't forget to save your frequent buyer coupons. For your own good don't go here on an empty stomach. When you walk in you don't know where to start. Do I run for the pizzas at the back of the store or stop at the giant cheese refrigerator first?! Every time I'm in Wisconsin, in the Appleton area, I make a point to stop at Simon's cheese shop. They always have a great selection of everything Wisconsin - cheese, sausage, wine, sweets, and memorabilia. My staples are usually cheese curds, always grab a bag of these, and they area always squeaky fresh! They have a variety of sausages, different cheese flavors, and wines from Door County (which I would also recommend). This visit, my LO wanted some of the Wisconsin souvenirs of which I thought were reasonably priced. read more

Half gift shop, half cheese shop. They make a fantastic Muenster and have a decent variety of other cheeses and lots of local wines and beer. Sadly, their cheese curds are on the salty side, but they are definitely fresh. They also sell fudge (made by an outside vendor) and I highly recommend the mint chocolate chip! Great cheese, fun store, but beware when shipping! Ordered two gourmet gift boxes on Monday, 12/12...got notification that one shipped the following Thursday and the next one shipped on Tuesday, 12/20, over a week after I placed my order! UPS said they will receive it on 12/24....$68 basket + $20 shipping for gift that won't get there in time. Nothing on website gives estimated shipping and arrival time. Great place to stop, just the sort of place you're looking for if you're visiting Wisconsin as a cheese-lover. There are lots of things to browse, from gifts and collectibles to souvenirs and (of course) the cheese of all kinds. We only had the budget for inexpensive souvenirs and this place offered those (like postcards, magnets, and keychains). We appreciated being able to select cold drinks and also milk for our preschooler. I found the cheese prices high but there's not much you can do about that (we have cheese in California too so I know how it is)! This store is a good place to take photos for your souvenir album because it's Cheesehead central (everything and anything made out of foam "cheese" for the Packers fan on display on shelves around the store). One guy (a visitor) was taking endless selfies of himself with the shelves behind him - the decor is fun and amusing. Another fun thing here is the map in the entry - you can ask for a glasshead pin at the checkout and mark your hometown on the map. It's nice for visitors to think of that pin marking their visit after they're back home. read more

A very nice cheese shop with a better than average selection of cheese, spreads, sausage and other specialty foods as well as a gift store. The curds are tasty with that prerequisite "squeak" and hint of salt. They're a great bargain at $3.79/lb. They even sell them frozen to keep for the long trip home. (I didn't know they sold them fried, I gotta try that next time). I have a feeling Simon's will be a regular stop for us as we travel to the north country. read more

Not only did two employees respond that they never heard of the cheese, they didn't seem at all concerned enough to ask further or to learn where this particular food could be purchased. Good selection of local and domestic cheeses, with a few too many novelty cheese (cheeses with chocolate or blended fruit). Ample selection of crackers, although the wine snob in me didnt buy a single wine. I have to say i was a tad disappointed bc i was expecting a little more from the imported varieties, but alas there were so few. My quest for a brie (from France, not Illinois) continues. I am TOTALLY amazed by the very business-like hours of the shop and disappointed that their products are not available anywhere else. I shop at Simon's pretty frequently as my husband is a total meat and cheese guy. I really enjoy their cheese; however what I don't enjoy is having to go in to the store to buy it!
