I was so glad to receive a discount (because we had visited the aquarium) and get to enjoy a special 3D film. I don't think I've ever been to a 3D movie that offered concessions (because it was more than a 10 minute film), so we had popcorn and peanut m&M's. When I was a kid, I thought IMAC technology was the bomb. It's been years since I've been to an IMAX movie and was looking forward to this one about sharks. Yes-it was dated. From 2009. Yes-the theatre needs a bit of a facelift; it's especially noticeable on the stairs (where the carpet is completely pulling away and frayed). But the people are nice and the messaging behind the movies is important...and....truly....some of the footage of the sharks up close and personal is astonishing. There are 2 other movies to choose from at any given time. Seats in the theater were comfy and even if it's crowded (which it wasn't), the view of the screen will be unobstructed. read more

Saw my first IMAX movie here, The Dark Knight, years ago. Facility is clean, staff was friendly enough, the screen was amazing, no matter where you sit your view is unobstructed, seats were comfortable, I really enjoyed my visit to this IMAX theater. read more

We saw The Galápagos Islands Movie in 3D. It was stunning and the movie lets you see animals, birds, & insects you would otherwise never see! The narration is well done. I would highly recommend buying the Aquarium and show together and save yourself a little money. We got here at 3:30 and we were done with the aquarium by 4:45, just in time to see the 5:00 show, the 2nd to last show of the day. read more

It's places like this where I sit alongside four year olds, grinning in our matching yellow 3D glasses squealing with glee as a thousand little scintillating fishies cut through the water leaping out at us (and whales and dolphins too!) that make me realize I would never want to stop acting like a kid. The IMAX is pure, edifying fun. Though this immense theater often fills up with aquarium visitors, the enormous screen towers over any seat in the house filling your view with awesome images (but IMHO is not as impressive as the Mugar Omni). Premium price on tickets. Coffee like a weak tea. If you aren't going to do it right, don't do it. The seats were average. The 3-d glasses were scratched. I asked for another pair and was told by staff that they all pretty much are, that they just don't get new ones. Though the staff member found me pair with smaller scratches. Something was off on the viewing as there was a shadow which I thought was due to my own glasses. Wife confirmed after she had the same thing. Wouldn't return unless pressed by wife. Temperature control was lacking and the projector wasn't even configured to display on the entire screen, a huge screen is sort of the point of iMAX so I'm really not sure why that was the case. also there should be a connection between the aquarium and the theater so that you don't need to walk outside to get to it. read more

So where did you go for valentines day? I went to see U2 in concert! yes I seen U2 at the IMAX and let me tell you IT WAS FUUUUUN! U2 live in concert in 3D is playing at the IMAX in Boston It was a really cool show, I felt like i was right there on stage with Bono! lol. The surround system is incredible the screen is gigantic and it's an incredible show to see. I highly recommend it! read more

The facility is clean, and the screen is quite impressive in size. The quality of the film projector for the films was also impressive! The film experience was quite enjoyable, and my only wish is that they offered more educational films for the IMAX. Definitely a necessary stop while visiting the New England Aquarium. read more

If you have heart problems, issues with vertigo or a fear of heights, this may not be the place for you. But if you are okay with all of that, enter young man or lady! The movies can be down right scary in how huge the screen is and your body experiences all of the movement on the screen. There are usually some really good science lessons tied in with the subject of whatever film is playing. Fun time, a little freaky. read more

As a part of an outing to the NE Aquarium, we bought tickets to see the SHARKS in 3D show. The theatre was clean, really organized, and not chaotic (esp given that it was a school vacation week and there were families EVERYWHERE). The fun facts about how large the screen is and other shows that have been done were good to pass the time as people filed in and out. Nothing else was a major standout, but there were also certainly no negative features. Not a bad place to see an IMAX and/or IMAX 3D show. read more

Let's be real for a moment. Any theater screen larger than your house is worth seeing. I also enjoy the 80 degree angle the seats are at. You feel as though you would tumble to the bottom if you tilt to far forward. Seriously though, good time. 3D movies with those glasses are incredible. Please remember though, indulging in that sweet green sticky-icky is a must beforehand. Let yourself be overwhelmed by that 3D mindblowing, engulfing action that IMAX dishes out all too well. read more

This is the place to go for movies. They films they feature here are awesome, and sometimes people even get dressed up like the character to go see them (i.e. Star Wars). I don't really go for the documentary's, but I'm sure it's more entertaining than wathcing the discovery channel. read more

I saw a feature film here, the third Matrix movie. I think the Imax actually made it much better than watching it on a smaller screen. My husband and I were the only ones of our friends who saw it on Imax, and we were the only ones who liked it! The only prob is that you could see every divet in Morpheus's skin, ew. I saw "Happy Feet" here and was initially disappointed that it was 2D and not 3D. But despite the fact that there weren't any 3D penguins, it was still pretty awesome seeing the action on such a large screen. And they play cool lounge-y music while you wait for the previews. My only warning is that you may feel like you're sitting in a giant germ incubator what with all the children coughing and sniffing around you....But I mean, it was an animated flick, so it's to be expected. read more

Imax theaters are an experience in themselves. You really get your money's worth if you go see a feature length film. The shorter Imax movies make me feel like I got ripped off, but when you consider a movie at Loews on the Common costs $10.75, this isn't so bad. read more

Wow, I'm really in the middle on this one. The place is just ok. Pretty clean. Went to catch the "special engagement" of Inception. I had already seen it at a friends house on their pristine HDTV thru Netflix, but thought I'd enjoy more of the special effects and sound by seeing it in a proper theater. I ended up being distracted most of the time by a dirty film reel. As for the sound, well...there's a reason why Jordan's calls them "buttkickahs." City folks should invest in the ride out to the burbs. read more

Came here yesterday for some monday evening entertainment. My friend and I saw "Brush with Genius," a film about Van Gogh. It was awesome! . The place is great, and they offer a student discount which is always nice. I'll definitely be returning to see more films. This is a great thing to do on a lazy day by yourself or with some friends and would probably make for a fun little date as well. We went to see Deep Sea 3D and absolutely loved it! This is a great family activity, but also good clean adult fun if you want to kick back and get your geek on. I especially loved watching the unearthly-looking mola molas, an ocean sunfish, that looks as though it's just a big fish head swimming around. I scored free tickets through my employer, and took a date. We got in the line, which quickly filled up, and let in. I don't like crowds, but it was handled very efficiently and smoothly. Seating was fine, though perhaps because we were close to the front of the line. Pretty sure it was sold out, but it was a 4pm Saturday show. We saw the Hubble 3D, which was really neat. I like that they usually have two aquarium themed shows, an arts/science, and a blockbuster like Batman or Avatar. The cinema is nice, maintained very well, and a nice change of pace from your typical movie theatre experience. read more

This was a great experience!! Way better than the Aquarium was! We went to see The Last Reef 3D, it was awesome!! Weren't very many people in the place which was a plus! The movie was wicked cool, the 3d glasses are way better than the stupid paper one you would get the one side blue one side red (those SUCKED!!!) Now, I know why they are making everything in 3D now! I went because the nieces and nephews were in town, but I'll be honest, I was blown away. I remember IMAX movies from school field trips, but I always thought I was just impressed because I was a kid. No. It really is that epic, even for adults. We saw a movie about sharks, but I think this is going to be a regular thing even when the kids aren't around. It's a little pricier than a regular movie, but I think it's worth it. read more

U23D was awesome - I think it's still playing there and I just read that the Stone's movie, Shine a Light is playing as well. They started the movie (without any intro, previews, or opening) EXACTLY at the scheduled time- or possibly even before. So walked into the movie well underway just 2 or 3 mins after scheduled showtime. The 3D glasses they provided had skinny lenses and did not cover the whole field of vision, so out of the sides of my glasses my peripheral vision was disrupted by the contrast and it gave me a headache. The only consolation was that I would get to keep the glasses at the end because they were yellow and looked sorta cool. Wrong. Also, at the end of the movie, literally within the first few seconds the credits began to run, they turned on all the house lights and promptly kicked everyone out. Also, this is not one of the dome shaped IMAX theaters in which you feel surrounded by the image. The screen seemed as distant and flat as a regular movie theater, possibly even smaller. Perhaps it has a slight curve to it, hence it being called an IMAX theater, but I have had far better experiences in regular theaters. read more
