Nice stage here.. I just watched The Rape of Lucretia, the Opera. Has a nice closed setting to get a really captive audience... the acoustics was great. State-of-the-art lighting I really liked it. I Recently went here for my sister in law's wedding and it was so beautiful!! The whole night was just spectacular!!

I attended an incredibly adorable and whimsical (think retro Polaroid cameras, an heirloom tomato carving station, a carnitas taco station, and mid-celebration bride/groom costume changes) wedding at Artists For Humanity and thought that usage of the space was done brilliantly. What I appreciated most about the venue itself (which I envision to be a pretty blank space when it's not done up for an event) was the garage door at the front. It's windowed to let in a deluge of light. Plus, it's fully operational. Immediately after the wedding vows, the kiss, and the exit of the wedding party... the party music kicked on and the garage door lifted to reveal an outdoor bar and pre-dinner nibbles. The orchestration was superb. Also, the gent's loo was quite noteworthy, although it's worth having someone manage it for a large-scale soiree. I figure the wedding was no larger than 100-150 people, and by the end of the evening there was wadded up paper towel all over the toilet floor. I can't imagine the chaos for a larger-scale party. Not that intend to have my own nuptials any time soon, but this is a noteworthy off-the-beaten-path venue (that's oh-so-close to our beloved Drink) to keep in the back pocket. Great "Green" Southie Space! (I attended the Chevy Volt Klout Up event here) THE LAYOUT: Sky high ceilings make the space seem larger than it is, and offer huge walls as blank canvases for social media screens or art displays. THE FUNCTION: Lovely for large parties, this epicenter allows for live entertainment interacting with art displays, and dining. The indoor/outdoor area is accessible via a gigantic garage door... making this look like it was once a loading dock. THE STAFF: Exceptionally friendly, chatty and informative. The venue even offers the option of a VIP section. THE DEAL: Check out their "Greatest Party On Earth!" Their annual bash takes place right around earth day. read more

Had our wedding there and it was a dream. Kristina was our coordinator/planner and she is a pro. So helpful and on top of everything. The space is gorgeous, the students artwork is so impressive. Love the space and love supporting this space of young creativity. I wish we could do it all over again. read more

I am impressed by the mission statement, like the look of the place. I have done electrical work for them in the past - and have liked seeing kids running in and out working. It's relieving to see that there are places like this running in places like Southie. I was disappointed to hear that they are not entirely green because they have to run generators during the summer to cool the entire building down for shows/events. But - they are still ahead of the game in other respects. I think everybody should atleast visit this place. They host all kids of events here - parking is kinda annoying, but it's a good experience. read more

I was on a line for a Home Front party hosted by this establishment until I was approached by a squat older woman with long white hair. She checked me and my friends tickets then claimed we needed to pay an extra 20 dollars to het in despite the fact I payed 6 for the ticket. My friends payed but I refused after I did so she then said my license was "expired" and refused to let me in. She was scalped extra money from me and my friends. If you want to get in be ready to bribe security. read more

We were lucky enough to have our wedding here (9/3/11), and everything about it was amazing. It's actually the only space we looked at, and we knew immediately it was the right one. Major pros for us: urban location, something out of the ordinary, LEED platinum (my husband is a green-geek), has a great mission (which your event fee supports), and is completely open to anything you can dream up. Cons: you do have to bring in everything yourself, so there's a lot of logistical legwork, and it cuts into the value a bit ($5,000 facility fee, which in other cases sometimes includes at least tables/chairs, and sometimes china/glassware/linens as well). In any case, the space is fantastic (gallery space, outdoor space if weather permits, mezzanine level are all-included, and studio space for an additional fee). I'm sad seeing the negative reviews about booking weddings and wedding events here! They did have a fair amount of turnover on their event staff during 2010/11 (I worked with 3 different people between May 2010 & September 2011), but the woman that is in place now (Alexis Naylor) is amazing. She was completely responsive, attending our on-site meeting with the florist to make sure she understood how we wanted the layout, and was providing decoration suggestions to us. She was also completely available the day-of to receive deliveries, and allowed us to drop off our favor bags a couple of days out, which was SO helpful. read more

During my time in Boston, I had the opportunity to work with this wonderful organization that helps at risk youth realize their talents and put them to use. AFH is a non-profit art apprenticeship program that allows urban teens to create wonderful works of art after school, bond with other teenagers, build relationships with wonderful mentors and learn about environmental issues such as sustainable energy and green living. For every piece of art that is sold, half of the proceeds goes back the artist and the other half goes back into the organization. The AFH Epicenter was built a few years ago, and features a giant meeting and convention space in South Boston. The green building was completely designed by AFH teenagers and an architect.... impressive indeed. Great organization, great people, great cause. I encourage everyone to check them out. read more

My husband and I (30) hosted our winter wedding at the Artists for Humanity Epicenter, and we could not recommend this venue and its staff more highly. Alexis Orellana went above and beyond to help our vision come to life for our wedding day. From her suggestion to use amber lighting during the ceremony, to the room-dividing drape, to the ceiling twinkle lights and even the cloud painting downstairs (that she had specially moved downstairs because I loved it) -- Alexis's direction and knowledge of the space made everything come together. This venue is amazing because you can do as much or as little as you want with it. We went black-tie, and wanted to play on the industrial and raw nature of the space, compared to our rich decor and guest dress. Uplighting & wall-washers are a MUST, and I highly recommend that if you host your ceremony at the venue (like we did) that you utilize the AWESOME 3rd Floor Studio for your cocktail hour. We even took our photos up there -- and guests just LOVED taking pics with the beautiful art backdrops. Our photographer and videographer LOVED the space because it was so unique -- guarantee that you will WOW your guests with this uniquely personalizable space! read more

What a spectacular venue with an extraordinary mission!

A very cool event space! My company threw a sponsored event here and we were blown away with the venue. The staff was very friendly and helpful, doing everything they could to be accommodating and it made fore a very successful night. My only complaint was that the main floor doesn't have a bathroom, you have to go all the way up a high traffic staircase right next to the venue entrance to get there. That aside, I'd definitely consider throwing an event here again in Boston. read more

This space is awesome! I happened to be a first time visitor for the Lovesick Bridal Expo this past Sunday and I was so impressed. The staff and caterers from the humanity hall were so friendly. The space has a great look and was able to host about 30 vendors, stilt walkers, aerialists, a band and a bar. The look is very industrial and reminds me a lot of some of the re- purposed event spaces in the east village in NYC. Very cool space and If I ever need an event venue in Boston, this would be a go to! (Also, there was a ton of parking options which is so sweet in any city! read more

This is a review of Artists for Humanity's "Greatest Party on Earth" This party lives up to it's name. We were greeted on the street by men on stilts and mystical human trees. The entertainment was an amazing mix of break dancing - Cirque Du Soleil style acrobatics - more traditional dancing for those who want to get down - and of course the samba dancers and drummer (my favorite). The food is as unique and varied as the entertainment. Then there is the art work. For those who venture up to the top floor you will find all the student art work and a wonderful selection of t-shirts all designed and created by the students. All for sale! The greatest thing about this party is you really feel as though you have stepped into a cool NYC or LA party. Something over the top that you just don't see that often in Boston. read more

In their new place which totally green space - this place rocks out. They employ - yes, they pay 14 - 17 years old people to work in their studios.. Seeing an organization like this is really inspiring to me on a personal level to helping make Boston a better place! "Artists For Humanity's mission is to bridge economic, racial and social divisions by providing underserved youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts." Other than being an amazing resource for our city's youth & community in general.. you can rent out the EpiCenter; 5,000 square feet that can be divided to suit your needs, an atrium gallery with artwork by AFH teen artists, 18 ft ceilings with 1250 sq. ft. wrapping mezzanine, on-site catering, landscaped 1200 sq. ft. courtyard with art installations, nearby parking, one block from MBTA Red Line, convenient loading area, and friendly, experienced staff. Even if you're not 14-17 you can appreciate the mission of this organization. This unique space in Southie is a much needed edition to Boston's art scene. The exterior facade is covered in metal ridges with huge windows on either side and a bridge connecting the sidewalk to the entrance, but the inside is what I really love with the centerpiece being the main hall that looks like an airplane hanger with industrial style metal walkways around the perimeter and 3 story high ceilings. Above and around the main hall are artists studios that are used to help further AFH's mission "to bridge economic, racial and social divisions by providing underserved youth with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts." To cap it all off, the events I've been too here are cutting edge and cool, like Legends of Style and the Red Bull Art of the Can Party. read more

Fabulous Venue - My company, dunnhumby INC, held their annual Strategy Meeting here in mid June for 120 people. The staff were wonderful and accommodating. Perfect setup for large parties, the space allows for entertainment in conjunction with art display, and food service, while traffic flows easily throughout. I attended a lovely function recently, my only concern was for my handicapped brother. They do NOT have handicapped parking! Thinking all facilities have this option, I was extremely upset. Otherwise it was a beautiful place for functions. read more
