Good morning! Good afternoon! Good evening! Whenever you are reading this...! Owned by and operated by Simon Goheen. I've eaten at Simon's before, but not in quite a while. The last time may have even been before I started writing reviews... And I don't know why. If I had to pick a metro restaurant to label as magical.... Akin to how a child sees Disney... Simon's would be that spot for me. Let's start with the basics. When you arrive at Simon's you will find a small parking lot to the West of the property. There is also some street parking available on adjacent streets and in front of the restaurant. At open there will often be a line waiting outside to get into Simon's as they unlock the doors. Reservations are available for groups of 6+. Seating inside the main restaurant is booths, low top tables, and chairs, and seats at the bar. There is a waiting area one door to the West of the main restaurant... If you like photo ops the furniture and art in the waiting area are going to be right up your alley...! I love the vibe in both the restaurant and the waiting area! Dimly lit and a very relaxed feel to both spaces. It's one of those spots where you feel comfortable in shorts and polo or in a three piece suit. This time at Simon's was with a party of nine with 530 PM reservations on a Thursday evening. I was greeted right away as I walked in and two of us were already seated. I took my seat and our server introduced herself and took drink orders as we waited for the rest of our group. Two of my friends were greeted with hugs and handshakes from Simon and our server. Say you're a regualr without saying you're a regular...! I'm not going to remember everything ordered, but here's what I can remember seeing at the table... 1x Old fashioned (mine) 1x Baked artichoke dip 2x Spicy three cheese stuffed mushrooms (I'd ordered one of these) 2x Mushroom crostini 1x Garlic cheese bread 1x Vodka pasta w/ Grazianos sausage (seafood bisque on the side) 1x Chicken parmesan 1x Pork DeBurgo 1x Cordon Bleu 1x Seafood Cioppino and side salad with the house dressing (mine) 1x Shrimp & scallops 3x I have no idea... Lol Complimentary Red Velvet Cake The appetizers hit the table. It didn't seem like much time had passed after ordering, but that's how it is when you're in great company. We'd all worked together for over a decade or more and still keep in touch. Everything was spot on! I was particularly impressed with the mushroom crostini. So savory and then the contrast of the textures between the mushroom spread itself and the toast points... So good! I enjoyed my salad with the house parmesan ranch too. Soon it was on to the main show. I can only speak to my meal and a couple of shared bites. Service throughout the meal was perfect. We couldn't have asked for better. Both our server and Simon checked on us regularly and other staff was dropping by with refills and whatever else may have been needed during the course of our meal. I hadn't had a good Seafood Cioppino since Irina's took it off their menu and I was hesitant to order it knowing how good some of the other available items are at Simon's... It didn't dissapoint. Not in the slightest... The noodles were cooked perfectly and so was the shrimp and scallops. The spicy white wine and red cream sauce had a little kick, my forehead may have glistened a little, but it wasn't overwhelming. I really enjoyed this dish. My friend seated next to me offered me a bit of his Pork DeBurgo. Served in three medallions. I could have sworn it was filet mignon... Melt in your mouth tender. I would have never expected that from a pork dish! And of course I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the red velvet cake. Offered as a complimentary end to our meal. I grew up with a great red velvet cake. My mom used to make it for every birthday in our house. Hers was moist (and yes I know some people hate that word...) and the frosting was sweet. She used more of a whipped marshmallow creme frosting instead of a traditional cream cheese base, but the idea is the same. So many people dry out red velvet cake... One bite of this dessert done well brings back SO many memories. Simply said Simon's does it right. After as close to a perfect meal as I've ever had... Some of us said our goodbyes and a few of us reconvened in the waiting area to visit a little more before taking off. Simon stopped in and chatted with us. We talked about the meal, the art on the walls, the recent changes to the waiting area itself... He was the perfect host and is everything you want to see in a business owner! Personable, attentive, and someone who realizes that the key to a successful business is doing things the right way...consistently.

Our family of six made dinner reservations for 5 pm on a Thursday night. Coming from Chicago, 5 pm is considered an early dinner time and I originally planned on walking in. But I read a few reviews and realized the restaurant is relatively small. Fortunately I was able to make reservations three days prior to dining in. There was a line down the block when we arrived at 4:45 pm. Apparently people in Des Moines are early birds when it comes to dinner. We shared the baked artichoke dip, baked pasta with jalapeno and red peppers, beef stroganoff, and steak deburgo. The dip was served with toast points which we think were a complete miss. It resembled days-old bread that was semi-toasted. The entrees came with a soup or salad. We tried the seafood bisque which was incredibly salty and we could not bring ourselves to finish it. But otherwise, the entrees were all worthwhile and delicious. The stroganoff's beef was very tender and there was an abundance of mushrooms. Our girls loved this dish! Our 8 ounce steak deburgo was pan-seared and medium rare. It came with a garlicky butter sauce. Our server was attentive, kind, and generous. She served us two huge slices of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. The cake was plush and moist - a great way to end the meal.

I have enjoyed the best overall Des Moines dining experience here, and it is an elite combination of exceptional customer service, a great venue vibe, and phenomenal food. Shoutout to owner and operator Simon Boheen for cultivating such an extraordinary feel from top to bottom. We had heard about Simon's from a friend who raved about it and planned a visit. They nailed it. When we arrived at 430PM for their 5 PM opening, I thought that we might have made a mistake, but minutes later, there were 40-50 in line. Parking is tight. If you're not among the first setting, they have a nice room adjacent to the restaurant to sit and enjoy. Casual attire. Pricing was moderate. Nick, our server, was terrific and improved the whole experience. Our party of four was served flawlessly. With Nick's help, I wandered from the usual favorites and selected the best darn lasagna (with sausage) that I can remember. Our side salads were yummy. Onion rings and baked artichoke dip appetizers were superb. My Way Better Half's Beef Stroganoff was terrific, as I tested it for purely quality control reasons. We were never rushed or pressed for time despite dozens of people waiting for tables in an adjacent room. Owner Simon visited our table and interacted as best he could in a packed venue. He also visited each nearby table, a level of service that certainly got our attention. Our night was capped off by an incredible complimentary slice of Red Velvet Cake. Bravo, Simon's. What a superb dining experience.

Best restaurant in des moines. Bar next door is great as a "waiting room". Service is great + the owner is so casual and accommodating. Food is just flat great. Not an overpriced steak that's crap. This steak is cooked to perfection and for the right value. Seafood soup, stuffed mushrooms, onion rings. Just can't go wrong.

Enjoy the feel of a neighborhood restaurant nestled on a side street with limited parking. At the opportune time I will order the seafood bisque, artichoke dip and Steak DeBurgo which seemed to be crowd favorites. My wait will be three and half hours where I will see if the exquisite entree and appetizers will deliver the relaxing experience to match the friendly hospitality of food served with a purpose. Ordered the Seafood Bisque which was a little salty for my test. The Steak DeBurgo was cooked perfectly, but the cut was somewhat chewy and not as tender as I desired. The side veggies were very good and Red Velvet Cake was absolutely delicious.

Incredible!! My family and I went to celebrate a birthday and are so thankful we did. It was our first experience at Simon's and we will be back! We got the onion rings and they were wonderful. Our table had 3 steak de Burgos and chicken Parmesan. The salad, mashed potatoes and asparagus were great! The cake for dessert was such a nice surprise. Highly recommend visiting!!

This has been in the Beaverdale neighborhood in different iterations since nineteen fifty four. It's current ownership has been there for fifteen years. I think it's a secret gem of Des Moines. Everyone is understaffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Remember they're busy because they're good. This restaurant still has that old time feel, it's a definite classic Italian neighborhood type vibe. Staff have always tried to make sure I am happy. It can be a busy place so depending on the time you may have to wait but they move.poeple through quickly without being intrusive. The owner has developed two waiting areas where you can have cocktails and talk to your friends while you're waiting.They're all in the same strip mall. They have excellent cocktails a nice wine list and a good beer list. I go every couple weeks with the right attitude of either going right at four thirty to wait and line to get in with the first group or to go later to get in with the second group around seven thirty. Car pooling is a good idea because parking can be limited so many people are coming. I've enjoyed appetizers like onion rings, mushrooms and Bruchetta main dishes like the lambchops, the scallops Different types of steaks including a steak de burgo, beef tenderloin, the fabulous portabella sauce they have lots of chicken dishes as well. Lots of fun Pasta too and they are i enjoy their lobster bisque! They also have great Italian sandwiches and pizzas for a family or group eating. The waiting is worth it and can be fun drinking relaxing and chatting,

I was visiting from out of town for a tradeshow and learned of Simon's from a yelp review went in and had one of the best meals I've had on the road and returned the second visit and took two more additional meals for the road. Omg I highly recommend this place. We had dinner reservations at 7 on a Saturday. Definitely a better option so you don't have to wait 45-1hr but even then the wait is worth it! They have a waiting area outside & you can take beverages. All the food we had was seriously amazing. Everyone loved what they ordered. My dish was the chicken Florentine & it had so much flavor but honestly every dish I tried did! Super small inside but also super intimate. Simon himself came out several times to each table to ask how everything was, so friendly & caring! We can't wait to go back. This was our first time!

It's just the best restaurant in the Des Moines area. I love this place. I found it by accident, but have been back multiple times. The stuffed mushrooms are to die for. I had the Sea Food Bisque soup, my wife got the beef stew. The Bisque was awesome but the beef stew was a little too salty for our taste. I had the Vodka pasta with Grazianos. It was like heaven. My had the lamb chops. I'm not a lamb guy but I have to tell you I would order it from Simon's. Just get there early. The service is terrific. And the atmosphere is just classic neighborhood restaurant that has been there forever. read more

Simon greeted us immediately, seated us and checked on our table a few times. We had the onion rings and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers, both were delicious. The seafood bisque was the best I have ever had. Steak de burgo cooked medium rare melted in my mouth. My only regret is that I didn't go sooner. read more

Two words: "Hidden Gem".... Thank you to all the previous Elite squad patrons who rated this place and peaked my interest. Also thanks to the tip regarding "when to arrive, and what to expect as far as wait time" no reservations makes this place a "worth the wait" type of place!! Simon himself was a gracious host and super friendly towards us as we dined and he ran this well oiled machine. I must first say; ***you can bring your own wine*** not knowing that we missed out but discovered two delicious cocktails! For appetizer we tried the spicy three cheese stuffed mushrooms' YUM!! Tasted like delicious garlic/cheese bread inside of a mushroom. As per recommendations we had the "Steak Deburgo" and the "Beef stroganoff"... wow!! Both highly popular, flavorful House favorites. We opted for the salad as the side and were not disappointed with the rich tasting homemade house creamy Parmesan dressing! Wow. Still not over it, and can't wait to come back already. They also slip you a slice of red velvet cake at the end... Best piece of Red Velvet cake I've ever had! This place is worthy of more than 5 stars. Great service. Awesome dining experience read more

One of the best meals I've ever had. Top 10 for sure. The staff was super cool and Simon checked in himself. The steak was beyond perfect. Absolutely loved my meal there. Enjoyed coming to Simon's. You may have to wait, but it is worth it. It's a cozy little place, and Simon is up front helping out and making sure that everything is perfect. The food is delicious. I got the house salad which has a great house dressing and the manicotti which was delicious and well portioned. I will definitely be back to try more. Don't skip on the is local find read more

Steak Deburgo was over the top.LOVED the garlic,beware Vampires.Staff is amaaaazinly attentive,and kind. Sat at the bar and met friendly folks that bought my dinner. Excellent wines to choose from.They now have a fun place to chill,INSIDE,just down from them,while you wait for a table.Simon is soo on top of it,running drinks to those waiting for a table.Not to mention,there are cards and board games to play if soo inclined.Very cozy feeling in this space,rather then the parking area GET HERE! read more

Worth the wait! I appreciated Simon and his dedication to his business and keeping people happy. The food was amazing as well as our waitress. My one complaint is that the seating in the booth was pretty uncomfortable, it's a pretty cramped room, but nothing to deter us from coming back. read more

This place is a hidden gem in a busted strip mall with a parking lot that I passed multiple times because I guess I'm dumb AF or something. The owner, that looks like he only listens to Nirvana circa de 1998 came over and we had a chat about his pick of restaurants in the area, which is just the TripAdvisor top 10 (no secrets amongst friends). I kid I kid! Honestly this place is great. The food was great, the ambience, amazing, and the owner and all staff crushed it. We had a bigger party for such a small venue and we got seated right away. Go to this place for fun banter, great food, and absolutely reasonable prices. I give it a 9.5 out of 10, -.5 for the waiting room that is down the way, which really isn't a minus but I can't give 'em a 10 because I'm just a mean old man... Go here! You won't be disappointed! read more

This place is tiny and located on the end of a little strip mall. You can't make a reservation for less than five people. OK. My friend and I get there at 5:30 and there is an hour wait. Fine. Supposedly it's worth the wait. We were told if we wanted to get drinks at the bar and go to the waiting area our server will come get us when our table is ready. Alright cool! Where is the waiting area?? You go back outside and it's the last suite on the other end of the strip mall. We walk into this waiting area and there are 4 or 5 other couples crammed into an even smaller area. It was very awkward and uncomfortable. We ended up paying for our drinks and leaving. We wanted a relaxing evening after work and it was everything but that. We will not return. It is not worth the headache. read more

Came down from MN to visit my friend. She took me to Simon's for dinner. And WOW! Did not disappoint! The food was AMAZING! I had the steak with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. So overrated..... don't wait over an hour for the poor service and weak food here. Really hard to believe all the rave reviews based upon the experience tonight. Soup was too salty and pasta was bland. The restaurant is so small and loud that you cannot enjoy the dining experience. Everything took forever. read more

Visited here on a busy Saturday night-- put in our names around 5:40, and were told we would need to wait until around 6:30. Around 6:40, we asked for an update, and were told we were next in line, so did get in around 6:50. This to say, with the time estimate being wrong, it was strange to not get any form of an update. Even for a restaurant that isn't lauded for it's personal and welcoming environment, we would have found this to be strange. Granted that this restaurant is in fact lauded for being personal and welcoming, we found this doubly strange. The business model of having people either wait outside before the restaurant opens or wait outside in a waiting area in of and itself isn't bad-- its execution, however, in our case was lacking. We were placed at a small table in the middle of the restaurant, which might have fueled our chief confusion, which is that we were consistently dodging servers holding plates, or other restaurant goers navigating to the bar. Food-wise, the bread was very basic and not very interesting, the complimentary salad with the house dressing (parmesan) was fairly bland, and the seafood bisque was good but salty. We then split the sausage chicken and spicy sausage vodka pasta. The sausage chicken dish was generally underwhelming but most noticeably not hot. The pasta was the best thing we ate all evening, though was slightly strange because they used 4 different pasta shapes (penne, farfalle, rotini, and shells). Lastly, as alluded to in the beginning of my review, and as was similarly previewed in our wait, the service was not good. No server addressed us in the first 10 minutes of sitting down, and pretty much the only interaction we had with any server was in ordering our food. Our water glasses were never refilled, and though neither of us had any water before they gave us cake, no server came by to refill our glasses, nor did they stay long enough for us to really ask. Again, this would have been strange even for an establishment that isn't consistently praised for its incredible service. It was an interesting and different experience, but one that, for us, was not properly executed on. That and the food was really, in all, fairly mediocre. read more

Simon's is an upscale restaurant in Des Moines you may miss if you don't seek it out! But let me tell you, YOU GOTTA GO. Simon's has the best beef stroganoff I've ever had in my entire life. They give you a complimentary slice of red velvet cake after your meal as well (phenomenal). Expect to wait for awhile if you go for dinner after 5:00pm - so get there early or expect to enjoy a drink while you wait outside! Let me know if you try it! read more

I have had Simon's Bookmarked for a while and just never got a chance to visit. Yelpers having been Yelping about this place lately and it sounded amazing. I made it a point to bring my lady here on a Friday Night. There was a little bit of a wait, but it is so worth it, besides you can grab some wine while you wait. When you walk inside it's tables in the middle and booths on both sides. There is no hostess or place to leave a name. Yeah it's a little different, but it works. Simon will take care of you and you will leave happy. We were seated at a small table close to the bar. The tables are close together. We started with onion rings. Lighting breaded and absolutely amazing start to dinner. They were perfect and I would definitely get them again. Next came the salad with House Dressing and it was phenomenal, lots of greens with perfect dressing. I choose the Beef Stroganoff which was such a comfort food. This just made me forget about everything from the week and just enjoy this delicious pasta with tender beef in a fabulous sauce. The pasta was a mixture of different types which I thought was cool with some amazing mushrooms mixed in. Wow, it was fantastic. Just when you thought it couldn't get better this delectable piece of Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting arrived. A little slice of Heaven is how it felt, just delightful and delicious. Just sad I couldn't order it to go, but that's what makes this a special place. Our waitress was wonderful and Simon just makes the place fun. I will definitely be back and this is definitely one of the best restaurants in Des Moines. read more

The vibrant atmosphere was such a surprising contrast from the quiet street. Wonderful live jazz music was being played. We were seated right away at a table and as soon as a booth opened the owner asked if we would like to move. We moved to the spacious booth. Our waters were consistently being filled by attentive staff. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was flavorful. The stuffed chicken and pasta was so perfect I didn't want to stop eating it. Steak de Burgo with mashed potatoes was one of the best I've tried in Des Moines. Before I could even ask for a dessert menu, the server brought out a large piece of red velvet cake that all customers get complimentary. Impressive and delicious! 10/10 everything. The food, the atmosphere, everything was amazing. Simon was walking around talking to everyone and it just felt very welcoming. Best restaurant I've been to in Des Moines. Get there early because there will be a wait! We were there 10 minutes before they opened, and there was a line of 25 people. Well worth the wait though! read more

Get here early. No really. We arrived at 445 for the 5 pm opening and we were 30 deep in line. Restaurant is small and intimate and the owners/chef is hands on and greets every customer. I highly recommend the steak deburgo and filet with mushrooms. read more

My wife heard about this place second hand so we decided to try it out for our anniversary. They open at 5 so we decided to drop in about 4:50 to catch an early dinner. Glad we did. There was already a lineup. But a few minutes later and we were lucky enough to get inside to wait at the bar for a table to open up. 45 minutes later we were seated. The interesting part was while waiting we saw the interaction between staff and between staff and customers. You felt like you were at Cheers and everyone were old friends. We enjoyed the atmosphere every bit as much as the food, which was delicious. While we went Italian there were plenty of delicious dishes walking by us that we're eager to try on another occasion. (I do recommend the mushroom crostini starter) Our server, O, was fabulous. And while we did have a slight issue with our order, Simon came by and made sure everything was alright. Appreciated his kindness and concern. Will certainly go back! Maybe just a little earlier. Though even if you have to stand and wait, it's worth it. read more

I dined at Simons on June 29, 2023. My sister-friend took me out to celebrate a major event that happened in my life. I had never been to Simons before, and she raved about the food. When she asked me where I would like to go I said, Let's go to Simons. While we waited to be seated for 45 minutes, it was worth every minute of that wait. The wait was because every table was full of patrons, which says a lot about this restaurant. I had the Beef Stroganoff and my friend had the Lamb Chops. Both meals were exquisitely prepared with love because you could taste it. The customer service received from the wait staff was second to none. Abby and Tara frequently checked on us for drinks or anything else we may need. The owner Simon came to our table to make sure we were enjoying our meal. After our meal, we were served the most decadent slice of Red Velvet cake that sent my senses into overload. I have NEVER tasted a Red Velvet cake that tasted so amazing. I asked who made the cake and was told Simon's Father made it. I was thoroughly impressed by the food, the service, and the delightfully delicious entrée and dessert. I will definitely make this a place I suggest to friends and family looking for a delicious fulfilling meal with phenomenal service, and awesome ambiance to them all! Don't look any further for a place that will wow with both beyond exceptional service and spectacular food! I enjoyed my meal at the bar with a delicious mock tail, somE cheesy bread and opted for the shrimp scampi. && the seafood bisque was the best soup I've had! The owner Simon was phenomenal and practically read my mind as things I needed came up. Great server. The waitress was on top of everything and really hustling about. Had stuffed mushrooms and artichoke dip for appetizers. Both were amazingly good. Three mains were steak, chicken cordon bleu and pork. Steak was a bit over cooked but good. Other two dishes were great. Salad was generous and the seafood bisque was good. Bread was okay but nothing special. Waiting an hour to be seated was okay. Plan to go at least by 4:30 to get a table right away. Otherwise plan on at least one hour. Ambiance was cozy and quaint. Maybe the Best restaurant in Des Moines. I went through years ago and kind of forgot about it. I went there Saturday night and Simon was there greeting everybody. The service was incredible. The food was impeccable and the price was just right for you going back tonight if you've never been there, you absolutely have to go there. read more

We went on a Thursday night and walked into a packed house. Baratta's is one of those sprawling, multi-room venues that feels like it grew one dining room at a time, and there is a lot of charm in that. The menu is equally sprawling, and we started with the Focaccia bread, which was excellent. We split the Ravioli al Forno and still had enough to bring home, which is always a good sign. A couple of things caught us off guard. The room we landed in ran loud enough to make conversation a little work, and the wine list was shorter than we expected for a place this size. Neither was a dealbreaker. Baratta's is the kind of place that has earned its reputation, and we would go back to explore more of the menu. Worth a visit if you have not been.

I think they've been under the current ownership since 1993. Spacious parking and I've always loved the atmosphere at Baratta's... Kind of an old school vibe, but up to date too. From the outside you can still see the evolution that happened over the years. A combination of store and home that evenutally merged together, but it's not as obvious from the inside. We were greeted right away when we walked in and were seated at a high backed booth in the bar area. If I recall the seating in the main restaurant is mostly low top tables and chairs. I didn't catch our server's name, but she was BUSY. It seemed like she working as a host, bartender, and server from what I could see. All rolled into one. And she did a fanstatic job! Drink orders were taken first and food a few minutes later after we'd had time to look over the menu. Most entrees come with bread and a side of either soup or a salad. I love their salads. All their dressing are made in house if I recall correctly. We ordered the Amaggio with chicken, the Manicotti al Formaggio with white sauce, both with side salads (blue cheese and creamy garlic), an unsweetened ice tea, and a soda (Coke products). $56ish before tip. Amaggio: "A house favorite with your choice of chicken, shrimp, or both rolled in a mixture of fresh bread crumbs and then grilled to perfection. Served over linguini with roasted red peppers and mushrooms. Topped with our Amaggio sauce made with olive oil, white wine, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, garlic and basil." Manicotti al Formaggio: "A unique blend of five cheeses including mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, asiago, and ricotta wrapped with fresh pasta and baked with your choice of red, white, or marinara." In full transparency I've never had a bad experience at Baratta's. Food or service... But that being said I can say the same about A LOT of restaurants in the metro! Some that others complain about regularly. I'm been trying to figure that out... 1. Either I'm not picky... 2. Maybe I'm very forgiving. 3. Or maybe I just choose to approach each dining experience with a positive attitude right out of the gate and it's infectious. Maybe a combination of all of the above...? It's just easier to be nice sometimes. It is what it is I guess... The food hit our table after a short wait. Bread and salads first and then the main dishes. Everything was cooked perfectly. The linguini in my Amaggio was still al dente. The chicken was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and not the least bit dry. I'm glad I left my bread to help clean my plate with. Our server checked on us regularly, we never had to ask for a refill...it was just taken care of...and Joe stopped by to check on us a couple of times too. I love seeing owners on site and interacting with their guests. That alone can bring a restaurant to a different level in my eyes. It shows accountablity that can sometimes seem absent these days. As always a great meal and an overall fantastic visit to Baratta's!

This place is phenomenal. Took my husband there for dinner this past Saturday for his birthday along with some friends. It was crazy busy, the place is cozy and popular, so prepared for a bit of a wait. The wait is completely worth it. Completely. Simon has it down to whom came in when and keeps things moving along, but you don't feel rushed at all. Service was top notch and just the right amount of attention. Each one of us had something different (Steak De Burgo, Beef Tenderloin w/ Portabella Mushroom Onion Sauce, Chicken Marsala and Chicken De Burgo) and we all ooohed and ahhhed over the food. I honestly don't know that I've had a better meal anywhere in DSM. We also had the Spin Art dip for an appetizer along with the Mediterranean Baked Cheese, they were both fantastic but the shining star was the Spin Art dip. Each one of us would have licked the plate clean had no one been watching. Simon was also attentive making the rounds and checking on his patrons. I've always been a big fan of owners that do this. While your explanation regarding the service was detailed, I felt it didn't acknowledge or validate my personal experience. To clarify, we were not informed of a waitlist, nor were we told about the option to wait at the bar next door. The only communication we received was, "It will be 2 hours," followed by other guests--who arrived after us--being seated ahead of us. My husband and I ate dinner at Simon's for the first time Friday night. It was a full house and for as busy as they were, I was pleasantly surprised at how expeditious the wait staff served our table. From drinks to the main course, everything was superb and served hot out of the oven. Some of the best lamb we've ever had. Who knew that a local restaurant hidden in a small residential area would be such a diamond in the rough! There was even live music, someone stringing the guitar softly in the background. Blues/jazz music which added to the small but quaint atmosphere. We will be making multiple trips back to Simon's to try other menu items which all looked appealing. We used to go several times a week, then we somehow got off track and it was six years before we returned. A week ago we had the hamburgers and they were delicious. This place is a hidden gem! It is welcoming whether you are in jeans or your Sunday best. The service is phenomenal. Everything was delicious from the artichoke dip (sans spinach), chicken parmesan, seafood bisque and red velvet cake (which I didn't think I even liked until I tried theirs)! Had dinner there a while ago and loved it. It is a very small place and it was crowded, even though it was a weeknight. Someone who appeared to be a host found us seats where we could wait and brought us drinks. Turns out he was Simon. The food was great; I ordered a pasta dish and was very happy with it. Looking for a new place to eat.....not a chain and just different? Simon's at 5800 Franklin. Our first time there tonight....food was amazing.....service was even better and our bill was very reasonable. The waitress even brought us free dessert! We had steak and seafood for supper. It was prepared the best we have ever tasted. The owner and staff made sure every need was met. The music by Willy Shay was a really good touch to an absolutely great night. We will return when in town again. read more

Great Food, great prices and Simon the owner is an overall great guy. He more than likely will sit down at your table and visit for a couple minutes every time you go there. Try the Chicken Santa Fe Pizza and the Steak Debergo. read more
