A very average bakery indeed ... I actually give it 2 1/2 stars, but thought I'd round it up ;) Decor is straight out of the 70s/80s, and while it was pretty busy when I visited, I think it's only because it's the only bakery around this area.
I was on my 'find coffee places around my work' mission - after walking down Brighton Road and finding nothing within walking distance, I thought I'd see if this bakery has joined the coffee brigade like a lot of others. It did, but definitely not *good* coffee. No soy milk, of course, so I ordered a long black. A separate staff member had to be summoned for this task, and even though she asked me whether I like my coffee strong (I asked for 'medium'), I was presented with a watery, luke-warm coffee ... guess I should have ordered 'extra strong'. I saw the machine, but I swear it tasted like instant. Hmmm.
I felt I couldn't do a proper review based solely on their coffee though, so I ordered a 'coffee log' - it was actually pretty tasty, but nothing spectacular. All bakery fare looked pretty standard, though I'm tempted to come back and see what their pies are pasties are like. You never know, they might earn an extra star! I definitely won't be getting coffee from here again though ;) read more
